![]() Author has written 9 stories for Harry Potter, and Fairy Tales. UPDATE: scratch what I said below this. Harry Potter is my homeboy, can't forget about how great that kid is. I am a hard reviewer. I'm harsh and I will admit to that wholeheartedly, but I figure it's best to really know how a story comes off. Personally, I feel that the most important thing an author can get right in a story is characterization. Especially in fan fiction. If you can get the characters right, you can guide the story exactly by their actions, reactions, and, even, their inactions. Oh, boy... I started writing on fan when I was in elementary school, so I KNOW that everything that I posted in the past Is beyond horrendous. I wouldn't recommend reading any of it. I was into Harry Potter big time when I was younger (and I still appreciate it quite a bit), but I feel that that fandom has finally been shelved up in a dusty area of my closet. Everything that I wanted to happen in HP happened (Harry and Ginny dated and eventually married, Hermione and Ron confessed their very pent up feelings and married too). The thing is, when everything actually ends happily in a fandom it sort of halts all of the speculation and 'what-if's that exist in it's fan fiction counterpart. So I'm pretty much done with it. Not that I didn't love it, of course. On a different side note, I'll discuss what interested me in my current fandom: iCarly. I remember a few years ago when the first season came out and I watched a few of the episodes on Nick I thought the show was absolutely terrible. Here were these lame kids (and they were KIDS, dude, even I was older than them--they were in middle school!) and they had this subpar website thing going on. The jokes honestly weren't funny at the time and it seemed like it was so obviously geared for a younger audience of Disney channel enthusiasts. I wrote it off as pretty much stupid and not funny. Fast forward a few more years to me 2011. Here i was just idly reading through an author's stories when I came across a few iCarly fics. I scoffed, but, bored out of my mind, I read one. It took a few tries, but I eventually got into it. Now, however, I am WAY into it. I am particularly fond of the relationship between Sam and Freddie and their potential. I can see the appeal for spam and creddie respectively, but I would rather watch it become cannon than read it. I would rather see it visually as an episode (oh, how Spencer would be hilarious!) instead of read any fics about it. it just doesn't hold that appeal over me. |
