Hey there everybody! My name's White Weasel and I'm just your average teenage fangirl on this site trying to ease my own boredom by both reading and writing fanfiction (But mostly reading because I'm a procrastinator). I have way too many ideas for way too many fandoms that I often get distracted easily. That's why you'll see that most of my multichaptered works aren't really finished... yeah. I will never abandon a work, but it will probably be on hiatus until I get more motivation to continue the story. I'm mainly active in the Ace Attorney fandom, but I also really enjoy Dangan Ronpa, Attack on Titan, Hetalia, and I sometimes like to look at some Tokyo Ghoul stuff because why not. My Fan Theory Contains Ace Attorney spoilers: I believe that Athena Cykes is Manfred von Karma's granddaughter. Now I know that you're probably skeptical, but hear me out. First off, Athena Cykes was born in the year 2009, the first game takes place in the year 2016. Here, Manfred von Karma says that he has a 7 year old granddaughter. Doing simple math we figure that said granddaughter would be born in the year 2009. Now, that's just the tip of the iceberg. This, of course, would mean that Metis Cykes is von Karma's other daughter. This is completely logical as von Karma's year of birth is 1951 and Metis's is 1986 or 1987 meaning that he would have had Metis when he was 35 or 36, a reasonable age for childbirth. He also had Franziska when he was 48 so... Also, Metis would be considered a 'disappointment' in the von Karma household because she did not take the path of becoming a prosecutor. She also had to have gotten married at some point (hence the last name Cykes) and, honestly, who doesn't think of von Karma as an overprotective father who wouldn't let his daughter get married unless it was to the 'perfect' man. Rarely is anyone good enough for von Karma. The two got married anyways, and contrary to what one might think, did not elope. Rather when Metis told von Karma that she wanted to make a name for herself in Psychology and move to America, von Karma being the 'perfect father' allowed her to move into his old residence that he left behind in L.A. so that she did not disgrace herself and go into debt. Metis was 22 when Athena was born, so we can assume that she had just finished college by then and had been recently married. She had also just moved to America. Now why would two parents of German lineage name their daughter something Greek in origin? Well, first we must look at Metis's name. Her name is also Greek, but von Karma would never allow that. What if he wasn't there for the birth? That would leave his wife to pick the name and honestly, Manfred loves his wife (Yes, this part is canon. See GK2 case 3) and wouldn't want to change the name she picked. After finding out the origin of her name it sparked her interest in Greek mythology (and just cultures of other countries in general, the localization of Dual Destinies says that she enjoyed Japanese culture), hence the name Athena. Sometime after, Metis's husband died and Metis got her Doctorate degree in order to please her father by getting the highest degree in her profession. During this time she also saw how introverted Athena was becoming and got her a pet. A dog specifically. Metis named the dog herself and chose the name Phoenix, once again, from mythology. After a while Metis started to pore herself into her work to please her father even more making Athena think she wasn't loved. This continued even after her father's death. After these events Manfred came back for Edgeworth's trial and would be forced to stay with his daughter where he learned about his new granddaughter and her pet prompting his line in Turnabout Goodbyes. Franziska also stayed with them when she was in America. Obviously the dog died at some point after because Athena could not tell the difference between living things and machines (see UR-1) This is the reasoning behind Clonco and Ponco. Finally the UR-1 incident occurred leaving Athena an orphan. It is said is said that she 'stayed with some relatives in Europe', but in the original Japanese she went to America which in the earlier localized games meant Germany. Who else lives in Germany? Franziska von Karma. Now I know what you're thinking, "Athena also knows bits of French and Spanish, not just German." It's actually not uncommon for people who live in Europe to know at least some of other common European languages. Anyways back to Franziska, we know that Athena was very introverted as a child, yet somehow she became very lively. That sort of thing doesn't just happen. She would have to be around someone who was more outgoing... like Franziska. Also, how did she become a defense attorney so quickly? Well, Franziska would have much influence over the legal world and would be able to get her into all the right schools so she could achieve her goal. One of my final points is Phoenix Wright finding Athena. I highly doubt that Phoenix would just find a girl who wanted to be a defense attorney in America. No, they were connected through the common acquaintance Franziska. Phoenix would want to visit his old rival and seeing that the prosecutor had someone staying with her would obviously want to know more. This leads to the events of Dual Destinies. Agree or disagree, it's your choice. If you have any objections, contradictions, or just want to talk about the theory PM me. Actually PM me even if it's not about the theory XP |
