25 Reasons We Didn't Know We Loved Miles Edgeworth

#11-Tech Savvy

HEY MAYA ANSWER YOUR PHONE

Maya startled and stared at the text that appeared on her phone. She also just realized she had three missed calls. She looked at her companions in disdain, Larry and Pearl were engrossed in watching Edgeworth model some trainers, this time he was partnered with a female model.

Maya sighed and dialed Phoenix's number, it rang once before the low battery message popped up and the phone turned off.

"Are you serious!" she exclaimed to no one in particular, but she'd caught Larry's attention.

"Dude, are you all right?"

"Yeah, my phone died," Maya frowned, "and I just realized that Nick's been trying to get a hold of me."

"Do you think he's finished with—whatever—he was busy doing?"

Pearl turned to look at them with a slight frown, "Is it time for us to go with Mister Nick now?"

"My phone died," Maya looked at each of them in turn with a slight look of panic in her eyes, "I didn't get to see what he had to tell us."

"Mystic Maya should know by now that a true Master always charges their phones," Pearls crossed her arms.

"Hey you," Maya frowned at the little girl, "Don't get uppity with me."

"Sorry for the wait," Edgeworth reappeared, dressed in the clothes that he'd come in, "I'm all done. Did Phoenix Wrigh—"

"He was trying to call me, but my phone died," Maya held up her phone with a frown.

Edgeworth spared her only a glance before whipping his own phone out and jamming out a text message. A few seconds later, his phone dinged. Edgeworth stared at the reply with a frown.

"He said he's sorry, but it's taking much longer than expected—you girls might have to stay the nigh—oh hell no..." Edgeworth turned his phone on its side and jammed out another, longer message.

The phone dinged in reply.

Edgeworth grimaced and shot another message back. The phone dinged. He replied. It dinged again.

Larry, Maya and Pearl stared at him in awe as he continued arguing with whom they presumed was Phoenix Wright. His thumbs zipping across the tiny screen fast enough for them to blur.

"Here I thought he didn't know how to use that phone," Maya whispered in an aside to Larry.

Larry chuckled, "I know, right?"

"Earlier, he refused to leave the office because he wasn't willing to check his e-mail on his phone, now he's texting like a high school girl."

"He is definitely not new to this," Larry added, "He seems like he does this all the time."

"Mister Ed-ji-worth," Pearl said, "Are you typing to Mister Nick?"

"Hang on," Edgeworth muttered distractedly as he answered another text.

He continued answering volley after volley of texts as they came, while Larry, Maya and Pearl looked on first in shock, then disappointment, then disdain.

"Well," Larry said finally, when it seemed like the SMS tirade was over, "What's next?"

Edgeworth sighed in exasperation, "He says he can't watch Maya and Pearls tonight—I'm sorry ladies, but you'll have to stay with me. I only have one guest room, so will have to share."

"Did he say what he was up to?" Larry asked.

"No," Edgeworth frowned, "He wouldn't say."

"What else did Nick tell you?" Maya looked at Edgeworth hopefully.

"He said not to worry, that he's trying his best to get out of there—wherever he is—and he asked if I could run to the store and get ice cream and tamp—oh... Sorry, that last one was from... Someone else..."

"What does Mister Nick want with ice cream and tamps?" Pearly asked innocently.

Larry and Maya giggled. Edgeworth blushed.

"Er..." Edgeworth ushered them toward the door, "What say we get out of here? We can figure out what to do when we get to the car."

"Mystic Maya, what's a tamp?"

They piled into the Lincoln, relieved that Edgeworth's photo shoot was over. This time, Edgeworth asked Maya to sit up front with him, leaving Larry and Pearl in the back.

Maya could sense his anger as he peeled out of the studio complex and navigated toward the highway.

"I really wish I didn't have to drive this gigantic boat of a car..." Edgeworth muttered under his breath. Maya frowned—of course she felt responsible. If Nick didn't have to take care of—that thing he was taking care of—they'd be with him. But instead they'd been pawned off on Edgeworth.

"Mister Edgeworth," Maya asked shyly and she leaned away from him when he snapped his head to look at her, "I'm sorry it happened this way. None of thought it would take this long. I hope you don't hold it against us."

Edgeworth turned back toward the road and forced a smile, "Nonsense, Miss Fey... One does learn to expect the unexpected now and again."

"So you're really not mad?"

"Well," Edgeworth paused judiciously, "I can't say this is ideal, but there are worse things that can happen."

Maya grinned at him, "We like hanging out with you too, Mister Edgeworth!"

The scenery flashed by as they cruised along the freeway, Maya took particular notice of his speed—he was only going eighty-five. Probably because she was sitting next to him.

"So where are we going next?" Maya inquired as casually as she could.

Edgeworth shot her a worried look, "So, I have to stop at the store—"

"Right," Maya nodded, "For ice cream and tamps, right?"

Edgeworth sighed, "Yes... er... I'd rather not go in and buy them myself, but Franziska... If you go in and purchase them for me, I'll let you decide what we do next."

"Deal!" Maya smiled and bobbed her head emphatically.

Edgeworth smiled at her in relief, "Well then," he reached overhead and pushed a button.

"North Star, where are you headed today?" a pleasant female voice emitted from the car's speakers.

"Yes," Edgeworth said, "Where is the nearest Hypermart?"

Maya stared in wide-eyed amazement.

"Please follow the route on your GPS screen, thank you for choosing North Star, Mister Edgeworth."

The screen lit up on the dash showing a map with the route highlighted. Maya stared, "I didn't even see that there."

"In four point six miles take exit 176 on the right," the voice said.

"What kind of phone do you have?" Edgeworth asked without looking at her.

Maya held it up toward him, "It's an oldie but goodie."

Edgeworth nodded and reached over to pop the dash, "I keep a universal charger in there."

Maya found the octopus-like contraption easily in the tidy compartment, when she tried to pull it out she realized it was connected to something inside the compartment.

"Just find your phone's connecter and plug it in," Edgeworth added, with a glance in her direction.

"Wow," Maya plugged in her phone and after several moments it turned on, flashing the 'low-battery' warning.

Edgeworth chuckled, "I think it's better if you deal with Wright from here on out."

"Wow," Maya uttered again dreamily.

Edgeworth looked over at her and smiled, "Miss Fey?"

"Here I thought you were just another old-fogy who couldn't tell a GPS from a GMC..."

"You can hardly call me old!"

A/N: OMG! Is this a new chapter? Is it really true? Please R&R!

So Edgeworth's 'tech' is really not that out of the ordinary, but compared to Phoenix, he's practically riding a spaceship...
