Author has written 2 stories for Harry Potter, Bleach, and Naruto. Updated: 1/1/2020 Fandoms that I like include Harry Potter and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, as well as the anime series Bleach, Naruto/Naruto Shippuden, Shonen Onmyouji, Kyo Kara Maoh!, Saiyuki (in all its permutations), xxxHolic, Tsubasa:Reservoir Chronicle, Gundam Wing, Black Butler, Heroic Age, Tears to Tiara, and 07-Ghost. There are others, but those are the main ones. I'm 59 y/o F living in Fayetteville, AR. Single, no kids, live alone so work and college take up a lot of time. My non-anime fanfic is published under the name meercat. It includes fic for Harry Potter, Thunderbirds, Hogan's Heroes, and CSI:NY. Pet peeves, in order of annoyance: 1. Nothing--and I mean NOTHING--turns me off of a story faster than a summary with some variation of "I can't write a good summary." If a writer can't generate a halfway decent paragraph summarizing the plot, I don't much faith in their fiction writing! 2. Writers using "defiantly" when they mean "definitely." Why are so many writers making that mistake?!?!? Defiantly means your are defying, rebelling against or objecting to something. Definitely means it is certain, without question, or unmistakable. They aren't remotely the same word! Same for weary vs. wary. Weary=tired. Wary=alert/uncertain. 3. PLEASE learn proper punctuation. It would be most appreciated and end the annoying ache in my face from wincing so much. Remember: correctly placed commas and periods were created for a reason - they are your friends... 4. This relates to stories with origins in other languages and is especially aimed at writers in the anime category. You are translating the environment and dialogue into English, French, Italian, or whatever language you intend for your readers. Slamming foreign words or sentences into your story without a valid reason is most annoying. For example: in Japanese anime fic, a character might say, "Oh, no. You're bleeding. Dai jobu, desu ka?" Instead of 'Are you okay?,' the author is saying, "Hey, look at me! I'm speaking Japanese! Aren't I clever?" At times, some words are necessary because they have no direct language equivalent, such as those related to position/title/rank or names for creatures that don't exist in the real world. If your character is actually conversing in your language of choice and speaks a foreign word out loud, that is acceptable. But otherwise, BE RESPONSIBLE. Almost as important: BE CONSISTENT. Don't call it a demon in one place and an akuma in another. Pick one and stick with it. I hope you enjoy my stories. I promise to post as often as Real Life loosens its iron grip on my throat. |
