If the Author's note haven't told me that this was Chapter 1 I would have thought I was in Chapter 3. That's one long chapter. The beginning is quite cringy, but as the story progressed it was a bit better than the start. Good work!

The ending feels quite forced. There's no way he'd not notice an enemy (a dementor here) nearby. And there's no way in hell he'd leave his sand.

Also, it's totally weird that he can understand and write English.

Beyond that, it's an interesting idea.
