Dear readers,

It's been a while since I've updated any of my fanfictions and some of you that are still around are probably wondering why. So, here goes …

When I began writing fanfiction, I did it because I love Squall and Rinoa, and wanted to share the scenarios I put them in with people who equally loved them. I believe my second story Breaking Through Appearances is what put me under the spotlight, the popularity of it brought new readers that gave me the confidence and motivation to continue producing more stories.

By 2013 my writing began to slow as did updates. I was still studying, had a full-time job, and was dealing with a lot of personal things. Then 2014 entered and I got married and soon enough fell pregnant with my first born. That put a long hiatus on all of my works. The long periods there were between updates, the fewer responses I got. Which I understood; I couldn’t go away and come back expecting everyone else to still be around.

I updated whatever I could and appreciated those who stuck around and voiced their support. But, weeks turned to months, which turned to years, and I found the time for hobbies was scarce. My life and family had to take priority and the lack of response from a near-dying fandom did little to encourage me.

That’s not to say I had given up writing – I was fitting it in whenever I had time. In 2013, I had begun re-writing Leather Black Diary with original characters, settings, and scenes that were not in the fanfiction. I was always told by readers that LBD was the one story that stood out; the characters were nothing like in-game, the dialogue was different to my usual works, the premise/plot was like nothing some had ever read. So, what I thought was only attractive due to a love of existing characters, was attractive for being original.

The newer version of LBD was presented to a large group of teens who were unanimously positive and eager to read more. I realised that LBD worked as an original and I could share this story with people outside of the FF8 fandom.

Yet, the more of the new version I wrote, the more changes and newer elements seeped into the fanfiction, till I got to where I am now. LBD is complete, but it doesn’t entirely make sense – at least not the fanfiction version. One of the major changes I had made, for example, was the omission of Zell. In the re-write, the scenes that are vital to the progress of the story is merged with Irvine’s new character. So, if I were to update the last four chapters to fanfiction, Zell's disappearance and the other characters never mentioning it wouldn't make sense.

Another change is the relationship between Seifer and Quistis. In the fanfiction they are a romantic couple. But, in the re-write they are fraternal twins, and Seifer’s character has a subtle romance with Rinoa. This is something that fanfic readers would have picked up on and questioned why Quistis isn’t the slightest bit bothered by Seifer's feelings for Rinoa.

There’s also the inclusion of other characters. Basically, LBD only makes sense if you read the re-write from the first chapter.

As for Rinoa, to clue you in on why she is so introverted in LBD, she is based on my character. Caraway is 100% based on my dad, and the entire premise of moving to a new town, the attic with previous owner’s belongings all happened to me when I had moved houses in 2011 – minus the diary and fire.

So, in case I’ve rambled and someone wants to know in short what I’m trying to say: LBD is complete but won’t be updated here. I’m in the middle of editing the newer, original version and will be selling it as an original fiction on Amazon (link will be here when/if that happens).

Once LBD is on amazon, I will revisit my other fanfictions and try to finish DD, Horns, and Amber Lights as there’s not much left to write.

My love for this site and stories hasn’t ceased. I hope there will be people to support me no matter what I choose to write. I am so grateful for every person that has taken the time to read, review, and write me a PM with your loving words. If it hadn’t been for the years of encouragement I would never have even dreamed of attempting to publish an original story. So, thank you from the bottom of my heart – you truly are amazing.

I started writing fanfiction in 2010 after reading so many great fanfictions by other writers. Reading has always been of great interest to me; I find that reading books for any age, and broadening my tastes to all types of genres has exposed me to some really great stories. It is for that reason I have aimed some of my works at teen audiences, others are directed more towards young adults, while the post-games are usually for mature readers.

I write solely for FF8 as the characters are so versatile I feel they fit into any plot I can come up with. Squall and Rinoa are my favourite all time fictional couple, and I take great enjoyment expanding and experimenting with their relationship.

Over the last few years my life has become quite hectic due to the addition of a son in our little family. Sadly this has resulted in no longer having the time to write as much as I used to, and therefore not having anything to update to WIPs over months at a time.

A huge, heartfelt thank you to every reader and reviewer; your support and encouragement have been invaluable and motivational throughout my writing journey.
