Well, what's to tell? I'm a pediatrics and psychiatry resident with way too much studying to do to be hip-deep in as many fandoms as I am. Ah, c'est la vie!

My fanfic reading habits range all over the place, from Twilight to Criminal Minds to Sherlock Holmes to Jane Austen to...well, you get the picture. I also occasionally make incursions into the field of actually writing fanfiction instead of just reading it, which at times feels like pulling teeth as far as getting ideas out of my brain and onto the paper. Feedback (of any kind) is appreciated, adored, worshiped, and/or ritually sacrificed-for. Not that I'm insecure or anything...

I also tend to develop sudden obsessions with unexpected fandoms. It's rather frustrating, really. Every time I tell myself, "Self, I won't get hooked into yet another community!", I just go right ahead and do it. Don't get me wrong, I've discovered some of my favorite stories that way. But it's still a bit of a bother at times. Another characteristic of these obsessions is their unpredictable length. Some of them last years, some less than a month. I can't explain why some survive longer than others. Blame my fickle psyche. Examples of these bouts of insanity include (but are certainly not limited to): Mal/River (Firefly), Jane Austen (particularly Persuasion), Sherlock Holmes, Hotch/Emily (Criminal Minds), Pirates of the Caribbean, Batman, Narnia, Lupin/Tonks (Harry Potter), Robin Hood (the BBC series), DG/Cain (Tin Man), and, most recently, Sherlock/John (BBC Sherlock). See what I mean? There's little rhyme or reason to it. And before anyone gets their shorts in a twist about my liking for the Sherlock/John pairing, I'll say this: it came completely out of left field. I never had any kind of emotional investment in a male/male pairing before (or a female/female one, for that matter), but this one has been pretty consistent for nearly two years. Don't know why, except that they're perfect for each other. That's all I've got.

I enjoy books of any kind, biking, hiking, New Age music, and intelligent conversation. I've been a fan of science fiction and fantasy ever since my Dad got me hooked on the original Star Trek series when I was eight. I've been a bookworm my entire life, and my sense of humor is a little too dry for most people. From my mother I inherited a low tolerance for continuous complaints without practical ideas for solutions. From my father I inherited an appreciation for satire, a photographic memory for useless trivia, and packrat proclivities.

Update (9/8/09): Okay, so I've been a member of this gloriously insane community for over four years. I haven't written nearly as much as I would've liked to, but the stories I've read... I discovered this site at the same time that I started medical school. I've graduated, and am now in training as a resident, but I still come here every day. I don't think it would be exaggerating to say that at times it's felt like this site has saved my sanity. I've laughed, cried, been angry, and just generally loved the escape it provides. And maybe I've stumbled across a few profound truths along the way. In any case, I've loved every minute of it.

Update (7/14/10): And I've hit the big 5! Five years of . Five years of scouring for updates and writing snarky (but affectionate) reviews. Five years of laughter, tears, heartache, and living vicariously through my favorite characters. Wow... that's a long time. I was just starting med school when I found this place. Did I mention it likely kept me from cracking up? I did? Well, it's still true, and it continues to be true. I'm hoping it will continue to be true for another five years as well. Anyway, just wanted to shout out a general thank you to all the authors whose work I've enjoyed, and keep up the good work! :)

Update (4/20/13): Wow, I didn't realize it had been so long since I updated this profile. Still in residency, still sane (mostly.) Nothing much new to report. I hit the big 3-0 last year, which was pretty big. I updated one story, and I still entertain delusions of writing more. Guess we'll see. That's not meant to be a tease, it's just that as previously stated, my muse acts mostly like a dormant volcano. Most of the time, she's just lying there, silent. Then occasionally, she'll wake up with a bit of indigestion...
