One year ago, Mario's worldwide journey abruptly ended on a sour note when he made an impulsive move. The aftermath created some awkward tension between him and the woman he cared about. Despite being stoic, he remained guilty to this day, wondering if he permanently ruined his relationship with Peach. [Complete]

"It means that you should prepare yourself for what might happen," said Dr. García gently. "Señora, this man is barely remembered. Whoever still holds memories of him and stopped the Final Death… it may not be enough. Perhaps he will eventually recover his strength and wake up. That would be the ideal outcome. But his condition is not promising, Señora."

All he had to do was jump, and his pain would be no more. His suffering would cease; tears would no longer fall from his eyes. But was that really the answer to his problems?

Deep down, he's aware that the numbness is his mind's way of protecting him and sooner or later, it's going to break. He just hopes that he's alone when everything crashes down, because he doesn't want anyone to see him so vulnerable. (Post-character death but no actual death.)

As if dealing with their own fears wasn't enough, it's a rude awakening to learn that they may very well be living on borrowed time...

Why is Luigi still so haunted by that mansion?

Ultimate Era, inspired by the E3 trailer. A new tournament approaches, but excitement turns to horror when news breaks of Mario's death at Ridley's hands. As it comes to light that Ganondorf put Ridley up it to feed the darkness in Luigi's heart, Luigi realizes that trying to bring his brother back to life is actually the easiest problem to solve among the many that lie ahead.

What if Héctor made it on that train? What if he didn't collapse in the street on the way home? He reached the station, climbed on board, and began the trip back to see his family after so long apart. But he made it not because Ernesto didn't share a final toast with him. Héctor reached the train because Ernesto didn't use enough poison to kill him immediately.

Chick, forced to play the underdog this season, finds his plagued past returning. Soon, everything is falling apart and everyone seems to want their pound of steel. Meanwhile: Sheriff is reminded of his age, Doc is plotting, Strip is a boy scout busy body, McQueen just wants to keep his reputation intact, and somehow it's all coming back at Chick. An unexpected snowstorm buries the Mushroom Kingdom and which interrupts the heroic brothers plans to surprise the Princesses. Both Mario and Luigi are recruited to aid the steadily ailing denizens all throughout Toad Town as the cold quickly intensifies. The cold makes life all the more difficult when it threatens harm to anyone who suffers from the harsh, bone chilling winter.

After Mario's latest paper adventure, the hero hides Luigi from himself. Meanwhile, Bowser is discovering that most of the evil in him is actually from the influence of Kammy Koopa.

Not all pain is physical. Not all scars are visible. The same fire that melts ice hardens steel... Luigi has been kidnapped, imprisoned and tortured by Bowser. Mario must rescue his Brother and hope he survives the devastating injuries as a result of Bowser's wrath. Rescuing Luigi is only the beginning of Mario's most perilous quest as the idea of vengeance swells in his heart.
