Chick accusing Lightning that he'd "do anything for a Piston Cup", along with Lightning retorting that CHICK is the one that would resort to such schemes, was such an interesting point here. I think that it's easy (at least for myself, the red racecar fan that I am) to be on Lightning's side regarding this argument, but I think I can understand Chick feeling like he's waited all these years, put in all this effort, and finally won the cup only to be harshly criticized. I also really like the part with Chick entertaining the media - one needs to remember that Chick can be likable when he wants to be, just like Lightning... or, Chick's even better than him in that regard. He actually had much better relationship with his own team compared to Lightning during his rookie year, and it's interesting to see how these two racecars, so similar to each other in several aspects, can have such a spitfire rivalry with one another.

I enjoyed Chick and Lightning both showing their fear and discomfort in being car-napped in different ways, too; Chick being all suspicious and spiteful (seriously, Lightning is just tryna find a way out of there, Chick!) and Lightning just barely keeping it with his own temper and panic. Loved Lightning being referred to as a really lousy fighter, too, he's definitely the type of car that would always 100% choose "flight" when in a fight-or-flight type of situation.

Also, love Lightning contemplating his relationship with Sally and missing her. Sally's best girl, seriously.

I really like how you are with language. The sentences never feel long-winded, and I feel that every time you write a sentence or a word, you make it matter. I love how I can vividly imagine all the scenes in this story - Chick shooting a glare at his crew chief only to have it wasted, Chick and Lightning's matching graze, and the lazy glint in Lightning's eye as he gives the press what they want. Also, I love how it lays out Chick's manner of thinking. He obviously has no sense of sportsmanship, but then it's easier to sympathize with him when considering how he's spent years on the Piston Cup track only to be rewarded with one (1) cup at the end of it all. I mean, "permanent runner up" can't be too pleasing of a position to be in, especially if one's constantly endured it with a racer that's had as long of a run as the King, only to endure it again with this hotshot rookie. It seems reasonable that the conclusion he'd reach in this situation is to ensure his win at all costs; after all, racing is a sport with risks, so why make it easy for cars that can't handle it?

I actually got so sucked into this story that I've sped towards chapter 5, only to backtrack so that I make sure I review every chapter as this story unfolds, heaven knows this story deserves it. Thank you so much for writing this story so that I can better empathize with this bitter old car - my heart's attentions tend to lean towards the cocky red racecar and his lovely lawyer of a girlfriend, usually :p You are great at what you do, and this story is a joy to read.

OH MY GOD IT ALL MAKES SENSE

I love how the pieces (that I didn't even know were there) all come together now, McQueen feeling a lot better after getting his engine replaced, and Ricket telling Chick that stuff after McQueen left.

I think more description of how the heck McQueen got to the bottom of the gorge would improve this.

When it said "he rolled precariously" down I thought "WHAT?! How did he get to the bottom of the gorge so easily?" I mean it's not like it's something he should normally be able to do, it warrants more description then just like, one sentence like: McQueen dangerously made his way down the deep and probably quite steep and rocky gorge. With no further explanation as to how.

I mean I think he needed to be by Chick's side for his (maybe) last moments, it was an important moment. But it still makes no sense to me how he possibly got down there. As far as I'm concerned you basically just told me McQueen drove down the side of a cliff to get to Chick.

One thing that really confused me in this chapter was the position of Chick and McQueen. Because it said he blinked at McQueen, then McQueen spoke, then it said Chick had his back turned to McQueen and could see the bikers (so he was facing in the direction of the GARAGE)

But if his back was to McQueen then that means McQueen was also facing in the direction of the GARAGE and could see the bikers too. Which doesn't make any sense to me, because just before when Chick was stuck in the mud he was facing in the direction of the GAS STATION, so if McQueen went behind him and reversed then McQueen was also facing the GAS STATION.

I went back and reread it but it still confused me.

I must say, I'm impressed. I've been avidly reading all of you stories, and this one is by far- my favorite. Your writing style is simple captivating, and with how in character you are? Don't even make me start. Regardless, I don't think my listless flattery will do much, but I very much hope you keep writing, or perhaps publish a book. I'd read that

Hey! So I'm about 900% sure you won't remember me but I actually reviewed the old 2007 version of this story as well!

I remembered this story existed yesterday and decided I just HAD to reread it because I remembered it being really good, and was incredibly relieved to find it was still up here. I really enjoyed learning some Springsteen songs inspired the idea in the first place too!

Anyways- I remembered this story in part because I remembered how on point you were with characterizations and the reread did not disappoint.

This is a very well written story (as much as I remember the original I can't tell what things may have changed since because hey, that was years ago I read it!). The characters are still incredibly on point and the action and dialogue is fantastic. This continues to be one of my all time favorite stories on this site and I'm really glad to have found it again. It was a lot of fun to reread it after all this time!

Loved that McDramaQueenie part ...they both are so...cute together but...ooffo! These two guys quarrel so...much but they are very cute...love this pairing hope you write more about this shipping...
