Hi,
I'm Shelly, a 30-something mother of 2 who got into the world of fanfiction long ago, with Janeway/Chakotay, Sam/Jack and Trip/T'Pol. Then kids happened, and life got in the way. I forgot it even existed until recently. I told my husband that I blamed our (then)five year old son and his favorite TV show for my current reading material. He asked if I was reading Transformers fanfic. I wasn't - I was reading Transformers: Exodus. But he reminded me that fanfiction existed, and I went looking to see what was available. I find myself drawn to Optimus/Arcee. I guess when you have a little boy, you go from sci-fi pairings to cartoon pairings! 2 years ago, I couldn't have told you the difference between Autobots and Decepticons. Now, I've hosted a Transformers themed birthday party, have every rescue bots toy available currently on my living room floor (and I can name them!), I've read Exodus and Exiles (and started Retribution), and I've written eight Transformers: Prime fanfiction stories (and one of them has 17 chapters!). I am a former middle school science teacher. I taught middle school by choice - I can make 30 13-year-olds sit down, shut up, and pay attention. I can't do a thing with kindergarteners - except run away.

I've been married for so long that I have to do a math problem to figure out how long it's been. 18 years. Half of our lives.

I am a girl scout troop leader. Don't talk to me during cookie season unless you want to order cookies, you want to know how close my girls are to their goal, or you need the location of our next cookie booth - I will not remember anything you tell me. Nothing else exists from mid-January to late-March. If I post anything during cookie season, someone should probably remind me to sleep.

Writing in a fairly new creative outlet for me. Nothing that I wrote years ago was any good. I'm not sure these new stories are either. It's a lot harder than anything else I've tried to do. Need a birthday cake & pinterest-worthy party decorations themed after your child's newest obsession - I can do that. Want a scrapbook page - give me 3-5 pictures and 30 minutes. Need a wreath, a pretty centerpiece, a beautiful cake, decadent brownies, delicious cupcakes or cookies - I can do all that. My husband has been known to walk in the door, look at whatever I'm doing, shake his head, and go upstairs to get out of the way. Writing is stretching my creativity, but I'm starting to enjoy it (instead of just writing it down to get it out of my head!). My husband has been very encouraging, even though I haven't let him read most of what I've written. I think he's happy I've found an outlet that doesn't get used to decorate the walls or need to be eaten!

My absolute favorite fanfiction stories were written by an author named Kerry for Star Trek: Voyager, over a decade ago. I looked for them recently, and they are not on this website, and the JetC archives are gone. I did finally find Kerry's stories though. None of the people I see on a daily or weekly basis really know me.
I wonder how many girls I would lose if their parents did?

March 2016:
I'm still writing. 10 minutes a day in the car rider line, 40 minutes on Wednesdays at gymnastics class, an hour on Sundays at musical theater class. I don't know where this story's going, so I'm not publishing it until it's done, but it's over 20,000 words (63 pages!) now and there's a lot more story to write. It'll get published eventually.

My girl scouts sold 4775 boxes of cookies, well over their goal of 4000 boxes! I am so proud of them! Cookie season is officially over!

How in the world did I have time to write last summer? I hardly have time to sleep! But the story is coming along, and I still like it.

Back to school and all that it entails. Still writing when I have the time. Looks like I'll be sitting in car rider line for 20 minutes each day. Got a new companion to ride with me when I go pick up kids - an adorable little ball of fluff/Mini Aussie puppy.

I just reread 19, for the first time in a month and after starting new medication myself. I know it needs to be there to show just how evil Megatron is, but wow that's a difficult read. What was I thinking?

The end of school is in sight. It's behind 4 theater productions, 5 soccer games, a bridging ceremony, a crossing-over ceremony, a party, a school field day, 2 grade level picnics, and 2 gymnastics meets, but it exists!
5/19 - 3 more soccer games, a party, and 2 picnics left! 2 more weeks of school. It's a fight to stay out of summer mode now. I just want to let my kids play outside until dark and sleep as late as they want in the morning.

I have no idea where the summer went.
The devastation that Hurricane Harvey inflicted on the city that I love, where I've made my home and chosen to raise my children, is heartbreaking to see. We are among the lucky ones - we did not lose our home. We lost our business, and some personal items that were stored there, but we salvaged a lot and we will reopen. The first floor of our building was expected to flood; we moved everything important to the second. The second floor had never flooded before Harvey.
School finally started nearly 2 weeks late. No one is unaffected, but some normalcy has returned. Girl Scouts are known for service, and my girls are no different. We've been out serving others ever since the rain finally stopped. I have 27 girls this year, and every one of them has stepped up to help.

I've picked up writing again. I still like most of what I have written. I kind of wish I could just post it, but there are a bunch of holes to fill in first.
My daughter had to write a story with her spelling words recently. I noticed it was taking her a very long time, so I asked what she was doing. She said that she had already included all of her words - she just couldn't stop writing. I told her I knew exactly how she felt.
