![]() Author has written 1 story for Anime X-overs. Fanfiction in general has been fun for the last several years, or decades depending on how you look at it. Spoilers really don't bother me, if the author legitimately needs a sound board for ideas, I’ll give it a read and my opinion. To think, what a rare and novel concept now days. Of course, this is a board full of thinkers to one extent or another. I've been floating around the world of fanfiction since about... gees, I don't know... Umm... Earliest remembered fanfiction I read was... 1993/94 A star Trek one if memory serves. Of course, all Star Trek novels could be counted as commercialized fanfiction. So 1987/88... The first fanfiction I ever wrote was back in the fifth grade. A Christmas story of some sort and 20 or so some odd hand written pages. The fanfiction was based off Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIHM. The ficlet is long lost. Beta Reader misplaced it, and I could not replicate the work... 1981-82 (sigh) It was also the first time I ever wrote to a published author. It was more of a class project. Wilson Rawl "Where the Red Fern Grows" The fun thing is he actually responded to the class. Looking back on things, it was probably a forum letter, but for our little school to have any kind of contact like that with the outside world. About 500 students or so in a county with a population of 50k spread over 400 square miles. I guess it made a lasting impression, even though I did not realize it at the time. Kevin J Anderson is another author I've been in contact with for a few correspondents, but that was years ago when he wrote those Star Trek Novels. The only Author that is an Automatic read for me, regardless of what is written is A.C. Crispin. Imagine my surprise when I learned he is a she at a work shop she was hosting at a sci fi convention. No one in the workshop knew, she was sitting in the audience and walked up to the front. If you ever get a chance to listen to one of her lectors on being published. Go. Of course, I imagine she would pop me a good one if she knew I called it a lecture. It was more of a round table type of discussion. I do wonder in general what she thinks of the fanfiction explosion. As to my own work. My spelling and grammar have always been, and always will be atrocious. Along with my self-confidence level. I don’t learn well with memorization. Concept and Association seem to work better. Plus medical problems in early childhood and 5 years of speech therapy hindered my written and spoken language ability. My comprehension skills rank right up there with the best of them. I have a whole drove of dabbles I’ve never published. Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Sailor Orion – Original Character, Harry Potter, (my answer to the Half Blood Prince was especially funny according to peer review.), and many I have forgotten and lost over time. That poor Star Trek one, that is better left lost come to mind. I even have an original fiction that rolls around in my head, but will require a lot of research to properly pull it off. Well, that’s it for now. OM |
