Author has written 16 stories for Naruto, Heroes, Covert Affairs, Yu-Gi-Oh, and White Collar.
Hi! I'm NitrogenFixation -- call me Nitro. You don't need to know much more personal info than that right now. :P
Current Challenge(s) in Which I Am Partaking: Meeps's Shipping Challenge!
Peeves: Lots. 4 of them (which I'll add to later), as inspired by Bakura's Guardian Angel:
1: Misuse of Japanese words and names, and misspellings of them. It bugs me like you wouldn't believe. A few mistakes, to be fair, are tolerable; my knowledge of Japanese is extremely limited so I probably wouldn't catch all of them. I am guilty of using Japanese words in writing -- jutsu names and such words as shinobi, Kyuubi, Bijuu, kunoichi and the like in Naruto, and some terms in Yugioh (mou hitori no boku/ore, Aibou, Yadonushi, Hikari, Yami no Game and others) that simply don't have the same meaning in English. Most of them are terms of address of some sort or nicknames. What really bothers me is when people act like they know everything and repeatedly use the words for show, especially if they're misused. (Exception: If it actually adds to the story, I use other words. The Denial of Death is a good example of a scenario in which I feel that it's not unreasonable to use Japanese words. There are also some extremely well-written stories that I love and couldn't really care less if "arigatou" or "daijoubu" are used.)
2: Mary Sues. I make a point of not reading stories with OCs that are regulars. Villains are fine at times, if they're genuine villains (for example, the Collector from the fanfic of the same name in the YGO fandom -- excellent villain he is), but I'm very wary -- almost to the point of OCs in and of themselves being negative for me -- of Mary Sues.
3: The copious amounts of slash floating around on FFN. Actually, the copious amounts of romance floating around on FFN. I like friendship fics. I don't enjoy romance, and I especially don't enjoy slash. I don't find it appealing to read. Sometimes, maybe, fluff, but nowadays I just can't swallow that kind of shallow drama. I'm okay with sub-plots -- even major sub-plots -- as long as they have substance, but what I really look for in a fic is friendship. It tends to be much more substantial. (Exception: Friends becoming romantically involved. I still don't read it much, because it doesn't always work for me, but it can be nice to read some romantic fluff at times, too. I don't really go for the "two strangers becoming attracted to each other with no previous relationship of any kind except perhaps acquaintances" thing.)
Also, me disliking slash doesn't make me a hater any more than reading it makes someone else gay. I'm going to be bold and say I don't agree with that kind of lifestyle, but I do respect the people who live that lifestyle, even if I neither support nor agree with it. I don't actively advocate against it, and I don't argue about it. It's as much a choice for me as it is for a gay person.
4: OOCness. The occasional moment is okay, or even an entire fic as long as it's AU and the behavior isn't too far off, and has good explanation (e.g., Y. Bakura didn't lose his family, and therefore didn't become evil -- I'd still kind of prefer that he be rough around the edges, as I can't picture him as Bakura without that), but permanent random behavior is simply not acceptable. If it's only arguably out-of-character -- meaning, one person may think it's OOC but not everyone -- I can usually tolerate it, but if it's blatant, no. Have you no shame?
Favorite Quotes:
"Now, we're gonna perform the Canadian National Anthem, and I swear to God I'm gonna screw the words up." - Whibley (lead singer/rhythm guitar/keyboard of Sum 41), before singing "How You Remind Me"
"I'd like to help you out. Which way did you come in?" - unknown
"Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far." - an African proverb
“I love writing. I love the swirl and swing of words as they tangle with human emotions.” - James A. Michener

UPDATE (Thursday, April 14, 2011): Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer...
Ahem, sorry. I'm happy because it's warm here. Anyway, I have far too many plot bunnies bouncing around this skull of mine, and Game 3 of Awakening is going to be freaking evil. I need someone to talk to about possibilities. As it turns out, there's MUCH more one can do with a retelling of a story from a different view. I'm still enjoying it, though.
Stuck on Ryou in the YGO fandom... He and Yuugi seem to be the characters I write about the most. Strange that none of it's published. Perhaps I'll get around to that soon...
And then there are four or five separate ideas for Yuugi, Ryou, and Malik fluffiness. I love writing fluffy friendships. I can't write all the characters in one scene -- it overwhelms me and people get lost in transit, trust me -- but I love to pick a few and write something purely about their friendship.
In other news, I've gotten myself interested in Softshipping (Ryou/Shizuka -- yes, Jounouchi's sister)...that, and Trustshipping (Seto/Ishizu, strangely). I'm such a sap. Trustshipping actually seems like something viable to write for, since both Seto and Ishizu are very mature people and would be very, very easy for me to picture together (with some pushing and shoving and the occasional whack upside the head). Softshipping...I don't know how deep and lasting a relationship between two teenagers could ever be, but considering how polite and mature Ryou tends to be depicted as, and how easy it would be for them to get along...I dunno.
Shutting up about pairings now. I've said before that I don't write romance, and I don't intend to ever write a romance-centered story, but I may slip in the occasional crush that probably won't matter much to the plot. Such as in a particular one-shot (titled Fleeting Shadows, and not in my story ideas list right now) I'm writing now -- undertones of softshipping, but nothing really, truly romantic. It's not actually about Ryou that much, let alone Shizuka, who I barely ever write. She's only in it because it...is necessary. It just is. That will make more sense if you read it.
In other other news...well, there isn't much other news, actually. My show (White Collar -- yes, I've claimed it as my own, seeing as it's so amazing) is going into season 3...I'm being lazy about finishing Duel Monsters...Donald Trump might run for President (his hair is going to win)...this entire country has gone to the dogs... On the bright side, I just remembered to check my dA (and if anyone cares, it's by the same name that I have here and on YouTube and pretty much everywhere -- NitrogenFixation).

Story Ideas
Demons and Dragons
Fandom: Naruto
Summary: "Never forget who you are, Naruto." An epic-length future one-shot that, as yet, is unfinished. (About 60% complete -- maybe.)
Characters: Naruto, Itachi, Sasuke (...kinda), Kakashi (also kind of in a different way), and SHISUI! (Shisui only makes a few appearances and he's still dead, but it's worth mentioning that it's not just flashbacks. Not a ghost, either. In fact, it's barely Shisui at all.)
Closure
Fandom: Naruto
Summary: Naruto, Nagato, mindscape. See title.
Charcters: Naruto, Nagato/Pein.
Turned
Fandom: Naruto
Summary: Because captives are useful when they're controlled.
Characters: But that would spoil the surprise. ^^
Too Late the Hero
Fandom: Yugioh
Summary: Mutou Yuugi is an average 14-year-old until his grandpa falls ill and an injured kid falls into his care. And oh, is that just the beginning? / An AU. Not as depressing as the title implies. Chapter 1 is about 40% complete, maybe.
Characters: Yuugi, Yami, ensemble
Misery
Fandom: Yugioh
Summary: Bakura knows what it is to be lonely. Ryou just wants to be alone. / A semi-angsty, semi-canon oneshot with chance of OOCness.
Characters: Ryou, Bakura
Something Wicked
Fandom: Yugioh
Summary: Two wolves find themselves isolated from their...pack and each other -- but they aren’t wolves...right? It’s a long journey home. / AU. A story of humanity and survival that might have a plot...somewhere in there.
Characters: Yuugi, Ryou, Malik, ensemble
Treason, Tyranny
Fandom: Yugioh
Summary: asdfghjkl... There are no words. The first sentence of what I have for the summary is, "An open hand hides a deadly knife, and a velvet glove covers an iron fist." It's a parallel AU, if you will. Same plot but some things are distinctly different.
Characters: Yuugi, Ryou, Malik, Y. Yuugi, Y. Bakura, Y. Malik, ensemble
Gentleman's Wager
Fandom: Yugioh...AND White Collar! (The word is ending. NitrogenFixation may possibly write a crossover. Maybe. Probably not. Nitro isn't THAT motivated...)
Summary: Yuugi and company visit New York City. A thief plays a game with federal investigators. Naturally, paths cross. / White Collar crossover, but you don’t need to watch that to understand. (As it sounds like, it will be published in the Yugioh fanfiction archive, if at all. The White Collar characters are there, but the plot is somewhat limited. The Yugioh characters are the main focus.)
Characters: Yuugi, Y. Yuugi, Ryou, Y. Bakura, Peter, Neal, Kaiba, ensemble
Empathy
Fandom: Yugioh
Summary: Three young men awaken in prison. They tell Ryou that he’s a thief, and Malik that he’s a murderer... But what about this silent boy who is only known as the Gamer? Can they prove their innocence before the three days before they are brought before Pharaoh are up? / Ancient Egypt AU.
Characters: Ryou, Malik, Yuugi, Kaiba
Know No Evil
Fandom: Yugioh
Summary: Eghad. This one jumped out at me while I was doing a concept sketch (concept for a story, not for a drawing -- I literally sketch some things I think about writing). I can't come up with a proper summary yet.
Characters: Yuugi, Ryou, Malik, ensemble. Valon appears, but whether or not he'll actually be a major character is yet to be seen. It's Yuugi-, Ryou-, and Malik-centric, though.
Gone Fishing
Fandom: Yugioh
Summary: The last anyone heard from Yuugi and Ryou, they were going fishing. / Somewhat AU. Post-Battle City, but no real spoilers unless you know what to look for.
Characters: Yuugi, Ryou
Note: Not at all what the summary sounds like... It's sad, but it's mostly intriguing and somewhat confusing. It's a cross between human emotions and a mystery/supernatural sort of thing. There's no character death (I think, but then again, it's incomplete).
Just Roll with It
Fandom: Yugioh
Summary: Bakura had heard the phrase “roll with the punches” before, but that was before he ended up stranded in the wilderness under the worst set of circumstances in the history of his existence. / AU. That’s...really all I can say about this...thing.
Characters: Y. Bakura, Yuugi, Ryou, Y. Yuugi
Note: Oh dear. This is very...random. XD It's pretty much humor compared with most of what I've been writing lately.
Elect
Fandom: Yugioh
Summary: The Sennen Items are made for a single purpose, a destiny, and are destined only for certain people to hold. These Itemholders, these Elect, wield the power of Pharaohs and Thief Kings...but what if two of the Items fell into the wrong hands? / Parallel AU. No OCs.
Characters: Yuugi, Y. Bakura, Ryou, Y. Yuugi, ensemble
Thicker than Water
Fandom: Yugioh
Summary: Every kingdom has its secrets, every family its skeletons; this one is no exception. An injured street rat unknowingly meets the mighty young Pharaoh, and a secret that should’ve been taken to the graves is uncovered. / Ancient Egypt AU.
Characters: Yuugi, Y. Yuugi, Priest Seto
Note: An Ancient Egypt AU -- with a twist! You'll have to read it (if I ever finish it -- the thing is gruelling...) to find out exactly what, but trust when I say that it's out of the ordinary. I've checked. -.-
Current Stories
Naruto
Makes No Difference
Continuity: AU. Starts pre-series.
Status: In progress.
Current chapter: Will be up soon. Promise. It's just about done.
Future: WILL be completed...eventually. There's a reason I haven't given up on this yet, after several years. It's my baby.
Yugioh: My primary fandom right now. I'll return to Naruto eventually -- it's my longest lasting fandom for a reason, you know.
(A Note on Names: Bakura Ryou will be referred to, generally, as Ryou, although it does depend on the point-of-view and place in the timeline, whereas Yami no Bakura (or Thief King Bakura, for that matter) will almost always be referred to as Bakura. The light part of Marik/Malik Ishtar will be referred to as Malik, whereas the dark is Yami no Malik or Marik. Yami no Yuugi will be generally referred to as Yami, though sometimes I may use Atemu if I feel it's necessary. All other names will be the Japanese names and will be written with the surname first, save for those who aren't Japanese (the Ishtars, Pegasus, and Bandit Keith come to mind).)
Awakening
Continuity: Season 0. Semi-canon, small AU aspects for the sake of my sanity and the readers' ease. Follows the canon.
Status: In progress.
Current chapter: In progress. Or...about to be...
Future: Again, will be completed. This has gotten such a wonderful reaction after just one chapter that I don't know how I couldn't finish it. Given my current difficulty writing it, suggestions are helpful and welcome. (See below.)
If you're interested in discussing these or any others -- be they yours or someone else's -- go ahead and contact me. You can send me a message here or email me, if you prefer, at x.nitrogen.fixation@. All suggestions and advice welcome. I do love to talk about fanfiction.

I generally try not to copy and paste a bunch of stuff, but some of it's too good or too funny or something I stand for very strongly. I try not to paste the long ones, so if you see a very moving poem on someone else's profile that's not on mine, it doesn't mean I don't agree, it just means I don't like flooding my profile. It's extremely unprofessional and irritating for other people. It's true that some things ARE more important than that, which is why I do have a section for it, but personally I'm trying not to be excessive and paste the pointless stuff. These things are important to me. What's important to you?
Thank you, Lord, for my salvation, for today, for my family, for my freedom, and for my flag. (Copy+paste)
If you believe in Jesus Christ put this in your profile! "And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might." Deuteronomy 6:5
Even when you can’t see Him, GOD is there! If you believe in GOD put this in your profile. "Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off?" Jeremiah 23:23; "That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after Him, and find Him, though He be not far from every one of us:..." Acts 17:27
If you have ever walked into a room then forgot what you were doing, then started walking away and remembered copy this into your profile.
If you have ever pushed on a door that said pull or pulled the handle on a door that said push, copy this into your profile.
If you ever wonder what would happen to the world if they turned to JESUS instead of OPRAH, copy this into your profile.
I have a one-time gift. A beautiful gift that many people are ridiculed for in today's culture. A precious gift that many people throw away. It's called "virginity", and I plan to not waste it on some jerk of a boyfriend who's just gonna dump me later. I choose to be faithful to my future husband, the man who will love me for the rest of my life, and to wait for the wedding day!! If you have chosen to save your one-time gift and are PROUD of your purity, paste this into your profile and add your name to the list: Dearheart, fowl68, Green Rainboots, NitrogenFixation
I am a bad American
Yes, I'm a bad American.
But I am only American--with no prefixes.
I am the liberal-progressives worst nightmare.
I am an American.
I believe the money I make belongs to me and my family, not some liberal governmental functionary, be he a Democrat or a Republican.
I'm in touch with my feelings and I like it that way!
I think being a minority does not make you noble or victimized and does not entitle you to anything.
I believe that if you are selling me a Big Mac, do it in English.
I believe everyone has a right to pray to his God when and where he wants to.
I don't hate the rich.
I don't pity the poor.
I believe that if you don't like the way things are here, go back to where you came from and change your own country!
This is AMERICA.
If you were born here and don't like it, you are free to move to any socialist country that will have you.
I think the cops have every right to shoot your sorry rear if you're running from them.
I also think they have the right to pull you over if you're breaking the law, regardless of what color you are.
I think if you are too stupid to know how a ballot works, I don't want you deciding who should be running the most powerful nation in the world for the next four years.
I believe that it doesn't take a village to raise a child; it takes two parents, one of each sex.
I believe "illegal" is illegal no matter what the lawyers say.
I believe the American flag should be the only one allowed in AMERICA.
If this makes me a BAD American, then yes, I'm a BAD American.
We want our country back!
