Nice introspective piece. I've always been interested into what Yami really thought during everything. I love his relationship with Yugi even though I don't think they were lovers. Their bond was so much deeper than that.

This was very nice...the sort of initially morphed view of reality showing through the names he gives various people and objects, such as keep-safe-things and friends-precious-people...that's a very intriguing idea, very original.

I also liked your portrayal of Yugi as well, as weakstrong, it sort of shed the light on what I already knew, but hadn't quite acknowledged about Yugi.

so this was terrific, and I really enjoyed it.

Wow...that was very different and very interesting. It’s an amazing and new way to look into Yami’s mind and heart and, at least to begin with, I’d not be surprised if that is...the impression he had of the world around him before gaining awareness of himself and of Yugi. -heart- I enjoyed that a lot. 3 Keep up the amazing work!

(In uni, so not signed in review. ) This was possibly one of the strongest understandings of Yami's existance that I've read. I'll admit that I approached with caution because Yami/Yuugi is probably my least favourite theme in the series, but because you said it was optional and because it was you who wrote it I really wanted to read and am glad that I did. Everything fits so well into that part of Yami's life that people tend to skip out. The realisation of being a spirit and how to deal with it was fascinating and the way you wrote it was inspiring. Thank you so much, once more.

I always believed that 'That-Keep-Safe-Thing' ie: Yugi is the heart, soul, and body behind Yugioh. You just found a lovely way of expressing it. Thank you for sharing!

BRILLIANT. Abso-freaking BRILLIANT. I love this one with every fiber of my being. Yes, yes YES. You captured so perfectly Yami in his formlessness and his progression and growth from non-existence to humanity, and it is absolutely BREATHTAKING.

In a way, it reminds me of my own Yugi introspection, There is No Word. Here is Yami's growth into love from the beginning, while that is Yugi's trying to understand that love from the end looking back. Yours is just so much more poetic, and the language and imagery so rich. But then, your language and imagery is always rich.

My only nitpick is that throughout you have Yami as not quite fully grasping the world, thinking of Yugi as "keep-safe-thing" rather than by name (although by that point, he certainly knew how to interact with the modern world when he was in control of Yugi's body.) So when you describe the very modern concept of open-heart surgery with its very specific terms, that kind of jumps out at me when everything else is vague and nebulous because Yami himself feels so vague and nebulous.

But the metaphor is so brilliant, I'm willing to forgive.

Otherwise, sheer perfection. TOTALLY going on my favorite stories list.

Keep-safe-thing. That's fun to say. I'm going to call Yuugi my little keep-safe-thing from now on. XD This was very cool, and I loved it!

Excellent story. it makes me wonder what it was like for Yugi when he realized there was another presence within him.
