What All Authors Should Know

By now, I've come to realize that all writers are not created equal. This doesn't give anyone the right to post a lousy story. These are some of the things that can assure your status as a writer.

1. The Summary- The summary is what attracts readers. We don't need to hear the entire outline of the story, if we know what's going to happen, we won't need to read the story. This is also where you demonstrate your skills. Writing in all lowercase, all uppercase(rudeness), without punctuation, or with bad grammar just tells us how badly you need a beta. It is also unacceptable to write such things as: summary inside, my first fic, please be nice, I don't know what to write, ect. Don't use profanities in the summaries.

2. The Title- The title is also very important. The title shouldn't be in all uppercase unless it is an acronym. Proper punctuation should be used. The title also shouldn't be ridiculously long. There is no excuse not to use proper grammar (you aren't six).

3. The Story- A story should be an original idea that comes from you. If you yourself don't like what you are writing, don't post it! Don't let reviews affect what you write. This is your story. Don't write in chat speak. It's against the rules, it's rude, it's annoying, you will not be taken seriously. All grammar, punctuation, and spelling mistakes should be corrected, there is no excuse for having an extreme amount of errors in your writing. There is also a system on called beta. The beta system connects you with someone who will read your story and correct mistakes.

4. Reviews- Replying to reviews is fun for you, but not for the readers. It's extremely disappointing to see a long chapter only to find that half of it is the author saying: You're great, thanks for reviewing. If that is all you'll write to the reviewer, send it in a reply email. Flames (pointless reviews about how awful the story is) aren't allowed. They should be reported. Constructive criticism is allowed though, and should be taken to heart by the author, they're telling you how to make your story better.

Final thought: Read the Rules - The rules can give you helpful hints about writing and rating your stories. It's also good to know what can get you in trouble so you can go back and change your story content.
