HP/SS - (Any form of relationship (parental, mentor, romantic, friendly) works well)

HP/DM - Frienship works well, as does romance. It really does have to develop correctly though.

HP/GW - Changed my mind. Not the biggest fan, but I can stomach it.

HP/OFC - a well developed other female char works well, however unless it is a fling, HP/OMC does not really
seem to work :-(

HP/HG - Big fan. Some authors really do not do justice to the charactor of Hermione. She started off a little bit bratty, but I think she really has started to mature over time.

HP/FW/GW - One shots - fast, kinky...

HP/HG/RW - surprised me... but it has to be relativly slow relationship... (as in built over at least 3 chapters ;-P~)

I am a major fan of AU's. Rowling creates such a ritch base to work with that there
are so many what-if's to work with.

I am also a fan of stories that are NOT happily ever afters. I really do think that a fair bit of pain and suffering can enritch a story - Sacrafices he Made is one of those sorts of stories. Whilst I do like the general plot of ShM, I am well aware that it is not really well written, but I am somewhat happy with it. It illustrates the point I wanted to make, Harry living alone, discarded when he fails to meet the expectations everyone holds him to, dedicated to something whilst knowing he can never have it. And hell, if it brings tears to your eyes, then it does what I intended for it to do. I know it did to mine whilst I wrote it.

HP/RW - I am sorry, but Ron is obviously homophobic (or at least straight)

GW/DM - Draco is so obviously gay, and Ginny, well she is a member of a
family who is in a feude

HG/ but HP (and I can stomach RW)

People who use the following "Harry wrote Hermione" "Harry, why don't you write Hermione and ask her about" etc. It is "Harry wrote to Hermione" or "Harry wrote a letter to Hermione" and "Harry, why don't you write to Hermione and ask her about" it is basic grammer. If "Harry wrote Hermione", he took out a pen/pencil/quill and he litterally wrote "Hermione" on a piece of paper (and to make that sentence gramatically correct, it should have been placed in quotation marks, but that is really irrelevent.) Basically, wrote is a verb. The action should in most cases be performed at or upon an obect. That is, TO a person or ON parchment. I could go on for hours about my passion for the correct use of the word to in a sentence.

And Americans, the word is MUM - Harry is BRITISH. We speakers of the Queens tongue use the word Mum, not mom.

There are a few things I want to comment about re Harry Potter and FanFictions:

Those who have read my stories will notice the almost complete lack of quiditch. I am an Aussy, I appreciate sports, but the pure fanatasism of quiditch fans really p!sses me off. I don't plug quiditch in my stories, and I don't make a big issue about it, because I cannot see Harry as a quiditch fanatic (like Ron). I can see him loving the feeling of being free, I can see him enjoying a good game, and even occasionally reading up on it. But the one thing that irks me is when they even CONTEMPLATE Harry having a life of pro-quiditch. First and Second year, maybe he would dream of it, but after that, we start to see Harry becoming more mature, more jaded and slightly (dare I say it) darker. I think by the end of book 3, Harry should be more realistic.

Pro-Quiditch brings me onto my next irk. There is a real lack of professions in the wizarding world. It seems that a large of the jobs out there in Britain are in the Ministry or pro-quiditch. The only other jobs you really hear about are not the sort that come arround regularly - ie a teacher at Hogwarts - the ONLY school in the area, or a shop keeper - most of which are family run (ie madame malkins). Where are the researchers, the builders, manufacturers etc. And where are all the necessary shops in the wizarding world? the markets for food etc - the world cup illustrated that 99.956 of magical people would be a liability walking arround a regular town to go and do regular shopping.

And that brings me to my final big irk. I understand that Rowling wanted to illustrate a complete world, totally separate from the non-magical community, and I respect that, however the pure level of ignorance the magical people seem to show to the non-magical world astounds me. They could not hide their existance if their life depended on it. Even someone who is considered a Muggle-savy pure blood does not understand some of the SIMPLEST concepts...

In a way, I suppose a lot of these complaints can be seen clearly in Karana, which I have not completely forgotten, with the rest of the world having a far more subtle approach to secrecy. Magical and NMA's living side by side, the NMA's none the wiser as to what their neighbour is doing. Those who wish to seperate themselves have an island tottaly self sufficient where they can go and live in ignorance. And the lack of the use of the term Muggle, which I think would (should) be considered an offensive term.

I am currently in denial of HBP - I refuse to either a) make any story remotely compliant and b) read/recomend one that is post HBP.

There are a few simple things that urk me.

1) Death of Dumbledore. I don't like it. The charactor of Dumbledore is intrinsic to the world of Harry Potter. He is a man of a thousand faces and he is a great way to get a story moving. As a writer and reader, I see his importance to the overall plot as a motivator - either intentional (nurturing of Harry) or unintentional (manipulative, Harry acting out against him) etc.

2) Horcruxes. The concept irks me. Especially the way it was dealt with. There is also the fact that something as valuable as a persons soul would not be so easy to find. I think leaving them in places of value to himself is the last thing TMR would do - he was not an idiot. It would be more likely, using some of that slytherin cunning that he would have made a horcrux (if he was to do so) and then either buried it in an inconspicuous place under numerous enchantments, or used less valuable items (like bricks or stones) and had them built into mundane items, and made sure they were well protected.

3) Slughorn. The charactor irks me. I will say no more.

4) Snapes Betrayal. Now Snape is cunning. He is certainly not foolish enough to delve into a promise he knew nothing about. He is certainly not likely to betray so openly either. It is more likely that Snape would sit on the line and play both sides to his advantage.
