![]() Author has written 35 stories for Thunderbirds, Secret Adventures of Jules Verne, Lord of the Rings, Diagnosis Murder, Randall & Hopkirk, Poltergeist: the Legacy, Ghost Busters (Real/Extreme), Psych, Supernatural, White Collar, Wild Wild West, Ironman, Emergency, Quantum Leap, and M*A*S*H. I've been in fanfiction writing fandom since 1988! And writing for zines since 1989! Yep, I remember the days of paper fanzines. Actually, there are still some out there if you know where to look. I've been pubbing on the net since, oh about 2001-2002. I write fanfic in whatever genre strikes my fancy at the moment, usually hurt/comfort and angst. Most of my fiction both in zines and on the net is gen or straight, however, my first slash story ever was for the Wild, Wild West zine "Gentlemen Never Tell", Issue 4. (Excellent zine!) I'm picky about which fandoms I like my slash in. I've written in the following fandoms (both paper zines and on this site): MASH; Wild, Wild, West; Poltergeist: The Legacy; Friday the 13th THE SERIES; Emergency!; Thunderbirds; The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne, Diagnosis Murder, Lord of the Rings, The Real Ghostbusters, Psych, White Collar, Supernatural, Ironman, and the new version of Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased), which stars Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. I've experimented with writing slash for the first time (other than the brief Wild Wild West experimental story) for Randall and Hopkirk, (Deceased). As to life, I'm now in my early forties (yikes!). I have a cat. I'm Midwestern born-and-bred, despite my rather odd spelling, and about ten years ago I moved back to Western Michigan (in part to help care for my parents), from Milwaukee Wisconsin (a place I dearly miss). I've lived in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Missouri, Thunder Bay Ontario, and Winnipeg Manitoba. My undergrad degree is in history, my grad degree is in anthropology. I also have a second master's in Infromation Science Management (graduated with Distinction too!) and worked as an adjunct professor (that's still part-time). Having left the teaching job, I'm a temp - currently at a HVAC equipment manufacturer, as a product engineer. Hobbies (Other than reading and writing fanfic): Travel, beading, cooking. Current Projects: I. Getting all my fanfic previously published in zines, cleaned up and published here on Fan Fic Net. This involves finding said editors of said zines, getting their permission, re-formating the story and adding short author notes. For some of my stories, I'm really hoping the editor has a copy, since I'm not looking forward to re-typing or even scanning and cleaning up the OCR. This is an archiving project - so far only two stories have been re-formatted and archived this way. II. I'm in Year Two of my Movie Review project. I'm re-watching and reviewing all my movies (including new acquisitions) and posting the reviews to both my blogs. It's a lot, with at this point 184 films to review, and 128 completed). III. I also have several started-but-not-completed fan fiction stories on my hard drives. In the back of my head, I have this idea that I really should finish those stories and get 'em posted. Easier said than done, trust me. Current TV watching: The new Doctor Who (I'm a fan of the classic series as well), Sherlock, WhiteChapel, White Collar, Castle, Psych, The Mentalist, Common Law, Green Lantern: The Animated Series, Young Justice, and Storm Chasers. Current DVD watching: I purchase all the classic Doctor Who releases as they come out. Which means I just watched The Happiness Patrol and Dragonfire. Currently watching Hawaii 5-0, White Collar, Magnum PI, Max Headroom, Wire in the Blood, Waking the Dead, Heroes, and Farscape on DVD, as well as my movies. My review philosophy: OK, I've never bothered to post this, because I thought it was obvious, but apparently not, so here it goes. One, for three years now, the single most convenient way for me to read Fan Fic Net was on my mobile phone. However, this meant I could not sign-in to leave a review. That's finally been fixed in the most recent upgrades to this site, which now allows me to sign in to my account on my phone. Finally. :-) But, prior to that, I read probably four to six fanfics (or more) for every one I reviewed, simply because of time and logistics (leaving a review meant signing in to my account from my PC at home, finding the story, and posting the review. It's a lot of time and effort. If the story was a long one that I downloaded, formatted, and read on my e-reader the lag to review it was even longer). In general I don't review incomplete stories -- what's the point when I don't know the end? When I do review a story it isn't simply because I liked it (or even if I disliked it) it's usually because there's some aspect of the story that could been improved and it's usually technical (spelling, grammar, word usage, getting your characters' accent right, etc). I also assume everyone on this site is a writer, and writers like to improve their work. My review philosophy for reviews I receive: Just like I write balanced reviews for stories I read, I can accept balanced reviews for the stories I write. "Your story sucks" is not a balanced review (not that I've received reviews like that or posted them on another author's work). Likewise, "Your story is the best ever", though heartening :-) ! is not helpful for improving work, I'm just saying -- which is why I don't leave reviews like that, or at least not often. :-) I like and always accept reviews. I have anonymous reviews turned off to prevent spam and so I can PM a reviewer if I need to - that's all. However, I also write what I write when I write it, because that's what I want to write - or that's what I'm watching at the time. |
