Secrets.

Everyone has secrets of their own that they’re unwilling to share. Hell, people have secrets they’re too willing to share. Whether it’s to protect themselves or others it doesn’t matter because it is still a secret. And once you tell someone, even on a whisper, you don’t have it anymore. It’s not yours. It’s gone. You’ve lost your secret. And you can never get it back. It’s impossible. Sure people might forget, but some never do. You can make new ones, sure. But that particular piece of information, that you held private, close to your heart, is gone from you, shared between strangers in idle gossip. Slowly, it’s being snowballed into something bigger. And then you miss it. You miss having special thoughts to yourself. You regret letting it go, watching it fly away like a bird. You regret opening your heart, because it only brought you pain, and sadness. Sadness is so hard to make go away. And sometimes even loneliness. And loneliness is so easy to fall in to. And then what happens when you lose all your secrets? What happens to you now? Now that everyone knows exactly who you are. What you are. What you’ve done. Now that everyone has you pinned down as this or that. Beast or human? And what if, just what if, when all your secrets disappear, you don’t like the person (thing?) you’ve become? What if you look in a mirror and not recognize your reflection? Because your mask of lies has been stripped free.
