PERSONAL UPDATE 14-JUL-2019: Hi all! So I've decided to delete all of the time-suck apps (tumblr, reddit, FFN, etc.) off my phone for the express purpose of forcing myself to focus on writing over reading. I need to finish my original WIP before Oct 15, and I have decided I'm not going to update The Breaking of Hermione Granger until the story is fully written. I will return to social media, FFN, AO3, etc. after those two items are complete. My goal is Oct 1.

Thank you all for your patience, kind words, uplifting comments, etc., etc., etc. Feel free to spam my tumblr at akorah (dot) tumblr (dot) com during my social media sabbatical. I really, really, really want to have good news to share regarding my original work by November, so any positive juju would be super welcome.

Starring: Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger

Second book in the We Were Broken trilogy.

In the summer after 8th year, Hermione Granger heads to Australia to search for her parents, who have gone missing since the end of the war. When the search leads her to a bakery in southern France, she finds herself partnered with an unlikely ally: fugitive former Death Eater Draco Malfoy, who is, for some reason, baking apple pies the Muggle way.

THE BREAKING OF DRACO MALFOY - First book in the We Were Broken trilogy.

After the war, Draco Malfoy finds himself abandoned by his parents and hunted by the Ministry. With the help of Blaise Zabini he flees to France, expecting to find refuge. He didn't expect to have a roommate and he certainly didn't expect to come face-to-face with his disintegrating beliefs about the world beyond magic.

Meanwhile, Hermione Granger returns to Hogwarts with one objective in mind: figuring out how to break her parents' Memory Charm. The task proves challenging as life begins to throw homework, boys, and Slytherins her way.

TALLY MARKS - Everyone deals with war and loss differently. One-shot. Trigger warning for self-harm.

WE WERE BROKEN - The final installation in the We Were Broken trilogy, in which the unravelling of a single lie forces the Granger-Wilkinses' time in France to come to an end.

April 1996: Hermione and Ginny hide in a classroom from several Ravenclaws and a Slytherin who have it out for them. The devilish Draco Malfoy drops a potion and slams the door, trapping the girls in a mist of purple.

September 1975: Hermione and Ginny wake up in the Hospital Wing, relieved to have a buffer between them and Malfoy. When Madame Pomfrey tells them to see Dumbledore in the midst of Professor Umbridge's reign, they begin to see how big the buffer really is.

    • PERSONAL HP OPINIONS

  • Cursed Child is glorified fan fiction.
  • EWE: There is no way in hell Hermione and Ron would survive 2 years of marriage, much less 15, and no self-respecting Weasley would allow her son to be named Albus Severus.
  • Ron was horrendously under-utilized in canon after Philosopher's Stone. He became the insecure idiot sidekick instead of the tactician behind Harry's plans that he should have been.
  • My ideal dynamic: Harry, Chosen One; Ron, tactician; Hermione, research and development; Draco, spy.
  • Snape was not a sympathetic character. He still terrorized Neville, whose parents he knew had been tortured into insanity. If Lily hadn't died, if Neville had been the Boy Who Lived, Snape would have remained a Death Eater until he died for the cause. For Snape to truly be redeemed, he needed to repent for his sins, not have them hand-waved because he got friendzoned when he was fifteen and never recovered.
  • Dumbledore was a manipulative old man who allowed Harry to be in an abusive household for ten years instead of doing something logical, like hiding him with the perfectly unknown well-off family of a Muggle-born. (There may or may not be a story in the works about this.)
  • Draco. Deserved. Better. Really, Draco's story post-Astronomy Tower is the redemption arc we deserved.
  • The Slytherins were treated as evil just by virtue of being Sorted into that house. Give the first few chapters of The Green Girl by Colubrina a go if you want to see just how hypocritical the "house unity" stuff is when compared to the canonical treatment of Slytherin.
  • Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws would like Slytherins a hell of a lot more than Gryffindors.

    • ABOUT ME, I GUESS?

    I became a novelist at the age of ten. In the bowels of a Harkins Theatre, I met a boy named Harry Potter for the very first time. Of every significant event in my life, screening Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was literally the most pivotal. I went from reading Baby Sitter's Club and Nancy Drew to reading Harry Potter, Chronicles of Chrestomanci, and Dragonriders of Pern. I started writing self-insert fan fiction which eventually evolved into an original story that I hope to publish before I turn 30. That same original story has driven almost every major decision in my life.

    As of now, I spend most of my time reading emails about problems I can't solve, designing and avoiding sewing projects, and lamenting my lack of time management skills. As soon as my 28th birthday rolls around, I'm turning over a new leaf for at least a week. We'll see what happens.
