![]() Author has written 59 stories for Stargate: SG-1, Burn Notice, Firefly, Star Trek: 2009, Psych, Person of Interest, and Hawaii Five-0. What can I say? I write because I love Stargate - Thanks Krista!! My sister showed me 'Solitudes' one night and I've been hooked ever since. If you liked that episode, you'll probably enjoy some of what I write. It has all my favorite aspects: The close relationship between SG-1 ('hurt' is just no good without the 'comfort'), hints of 'ship between Jack and Sam (although I do consider Solitudes to be 'pre-ship'), their ability to beat incredible odds, and, of course, Jack whump. I've been making up fan fiction stories for whatever show was my current fav since long before I knew there was such a thing. Imagine my surprise when I found out there was a whole website dedicated to one of my favorite pastimes! Whump is my fav, I also like to include hints of 'ship, but no MUSH (I try anyway...) But ultimately it's all about the team. After writing for Stargate for a while, I've started doing something I didn't think possible: writing for other shows. But Stargate will always be my first love. Some writers seem to be embarrassed by their love of 'whump.' Well - I am too - but I know why I like it. #1 I love my heroes to be heroes, my good guys need to be good guys. If they have a flaw it should be something that was thrust upon them - something they had to endure - even something they were forced to do. #2 They should be somewhat larger than life. I'm not talking about leaping tall buildings in a single bound (although that's not a bad thing) But they should be really good at what they do - better than the average human, stronger (in heart at least) smarter... you get the idea. #3 all this to say that when they face a challenge - I like it to be a big one: Something worthy of them. SO if I take them to the brink of death (and beyond) it's only because I know they can handle it. Plus it may add to that 'dark past' thing they've got going that makes them so loveable and human. #4 And this is the most important part: 'Hurt' is just no good without 'Comfort' There needs to be someone, a team member, a friend, a partner who cares that they are forced to suffer, who wants to save them. It emphasizes parts 1 and 2, and brings the reader/watcher into the story, 'cause we want to save them too. One thing I've noticed about my writing after reading so much else of what is on this site is that I try to be very faithful to the shows. I try hard to put very little in my writing that you wouldn't see in an episode. And to make these characters sound like they do on the screen. I figure - that's what I liked enough to try to recreate - why would I try to change it? The stories where I've gone off on a tangent are my least favorite. AUs are going to be rare on this page. Not sure this is a good thing... I hope you enjoy reading my feeble offerings as much as I enjoy writing them. Oh- and I will do my best to never, ever end a sentence with a preposition. ;-) |
