Obi-Wan technically didn't have permission from the Council to go on this particular mission. He told them he was going to tie up some loose ends after the war. It wasn't really a lie. But he knew they wouldn't be pleased. After all, he'd be coming back with a Force-sensitive 3-year-old who resembled him quite a bit. Surely that would raise suspicions and questions.

After Darth Sidious is defeated, everything changes. Some for the better, others not so much. Mostly better though. (Or: Anakin becomes a dad. Rex rehabilitates clone troopers who no longer want to be a part of the army. Ahsoka gets a call from an old friend. And maybe Obi-Wan finds out it's not just his enemies who don't stay dead. Anakin had pretty much adjusted to life at the Jedi temple. He went to class, he trained with his master, and he had begun to have strange dreams. An old friend would meet him in his dreams, and offer advice and guidance. He was trying to figure out where everything went wrong as he watched Anakin grow into a Jedi Knight. The answer he needed was in the past.

After Ahsoka gets proven innocent, Anakin and Obi-Wan were horrified and sick about how the Jedi Council abandoning her to the Republic. Realizing that the Jedi Council changed, all three Jedi left the Jedi Order and sets themselves on different paths along with Padmé, other senators, the 501st, and 212th. Soon, they had to return after learning a terrible truth.

What if Anakin had never become Darth Vader? What if Padme hadn't died? What if Luke and Leia had grown up with their parents? When Anakin turns to the Dark Side, Obi-Wan and Padme refuse to let him go. After their duel on Mustafar, Obi-Wan takes them both to Polis Massa before going into hiding and turning Anakin back to the light.
