Author has written 1 story for Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
I enjoy reading Harry potter as well as Percy and the Olympian fanfics First, in the PJO Universe. I am mainly an Annabeth/Percy shipper but I am also open and willing to read other pairings, especially if they are well written. I was also very satisfied with the whole Percy series, the pairings, the characters development. So I don’t read fanfic because I want to change thing in the stories but because I like to wonder, the what if. Like if Annabeth did this instead of that?? What would happen? etc One of the thing i like with both Percy and hero of Olympus books is that the characters travel a lots, and since i travel a lot both for work and my own leisure. I saw many place where the action in the books happen and I think these are underrated detail from these books. Either Rick Riordan went to those place or he is extremely good at research. I think reading a book where stories happen in a place you actually went completely change the dynamic of the reading. It also make the story feel more real and easier to imagine the place. I also read a lot of Harry potter fanfiction. But my reason for reading them are quite different than PJO, unlike in Percy, I was unsatisfied by the latest books, I felt the pairing between Ginny and Harry was completely rushed and forced. There was no development or interaction between them prior to Half blood prince and no build up prior to that couple forming. They went from basically, saying 2 or 3 word in 6 year to directly kissing each other. To me, that’s not love, its feel more like lust. I think Harry would have worked better with either Hermione or Luna, Hermione being Harry best friend and there for him from the start, and Luna because they had already established the foundation of a good friendship in book 5, especially when they talked about how they felt about loosing their loved one (in Harry’s case, his godfather, and Luna, her mother) And finally, there is Dumbledore whom i don't have good opinion since book 5. He basically manipulated Harry all his life, abandoned him at his abusive relative, admitted in book five that he condemned Harry to a life of pain and yet he say that he wanted him to have a (normal) childhood which is a very big contradiction. Having to live in a cupboard under the stairs, being fed scrap of food and constantly screamed at by those he is supposed to call family, being chased and beaten by his own cousin, that’s no childhood, that's child abuse and i would not wish that on anyone. Not only that, Dumbledore provided Harry with absolutely no training at all knowing that Voldemort would eventually return to get his revenge on Harry and did next to nothing to help him in book 4 and 5 I don’t care what his motives were. In my opinion, he is as responsible for Harry's living hell as Voldemort and is a prime example of the saying. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Which is why i enjoy reading fics where Harry emancipate himself from Dumbledore and forge his own path. Now what i would have done in Dumbledore's place, probably have Harry trained with every survival skills i could think of, hire unspeakable and ex sas who are aware of magic (if they can be found) to train him, although it would also mean sacrificing his childhood, at least he would have the tools to hopefully survive and would be given the respect he deserve and not be starved. A good fic that nearly mirror that is What we're fighting for by James Spookie, where Dumbledore actually made Harry into a one man army but the people responsible for him realized that in doing so, they neglected to teach him how to live and have fun. So they decided to send him to Hogwart in order to learn how to be a teenager. The result what quite hilarious as Harry was socially inept, a scene that i found epic was when he bluntly asked Hermione about (What is dating and what is the procedure) talking about dating as if it was another military procedure and a knowledge normal people take for granted. My favorites pairing for hp fic are non cannon, especially when Harry go and date a Slytherins lady such as Daphne Greengrass, as dating a Slytherin for a Gryffindor is basically the ultimate sin. I like the idea of Harry breaking social and house boundaries to date who he actually want to go with. Getting past school rivalries to focus on real concerning issue such as the war against Voldemort and the future of the wizarding world which is rotten with corruption. Some of my favourite Authors for this type of fanfic are Jeconais, Kb0, kokopelli, Bobmin356 (who unfortunately passed away, may he rest in peace and his work remembered) Other favourites HP/DG authors includes, Caskettfan5, Dorothea Greengrass, Shygui ,Xavras, AuthorK and Petrificus somewhatus and many more I could name. That’s the anti conformist part in me talking. I also enjoy reading other Fanfic such as Buffy, Starwars, Avengers. Assassin creed. To borrow a quote from Author, Robst. I don’t like stories of will they? Won’t they? Where the story is over before the main pairings gets together. I don’t mind some angst if it’s moderate and balanced, the character subject to the angst is rewarded for the pain that he/she has to go through and get rewarded with a happy ending, not necessarily realistic but, it’s the world of fanfic and fairy tales. If i wanted to go entirely realism, I just have to turn on the news or watch a documentary. As far as I am concerned, I saw enough bad ending in real life and given the current 2020 crisis, I could use some balanced or lighter fanfic to read. However I do like scenes where a girl comfort her broken men (like Annabeth comforting Percy, I don’t know why but I think there is something beautiful seeing a girl fixing her man back up so he can fight on. I am not the biggest fan or multi pairing although they are excellent fics out there that i enjoy but i prefer single pairing and i tend to get really irritated when the pairing is not disclosed and fully admit that i have no qualm in checking out first the later chapters to find out what pairing it is before i commit to read. Pairing is a huge deal for me. |
