Reviews for Daphne Greengrass and the Importance of Intent
AureliusBlack chapter 23 . 7/17
This was really well written and original. I liked the way you built the relationship between the two of them and how you made daphne cunning but still have a personality. Nice one!
Nico Aldrich chapter 22 . 7/16
Daphne Greengrass and the Importance of Intent is a heartwarming but breathtaking tale that has etched itself as one of my absolute favorite stories ever told in a Harry Potter fanfiction. Full of wit, charm and heart, this work from Petrificus Somewhatus is the very essence and gold standard of what I believe fanfiction at its highest level is capable of producing.

The story is not built on any Harry superpower or unbelievable plot (the creativity of the fanfiction community is out of this world to say the least) but is grounded on the simple re-imagination of tenets we already know to be long established in this world, and quite honestly, it makes the story absolutely shine. Harry is still the brave but brooding character we know and love and his triumph in the magical world quite literally fueled by our favorite Daphne Greengrass is one of the most satisfying conclusions I have had the pleasure to read.

The progression from chapter to chapter is fluid, intricately designed and is a testament to the planning and hard work done behind the scenes by the author. He also does an impressive (and extremely important) characterization of the Greengreass characters to his advantage allowing for the ease of execution of their development with our main heroes. This allows for Harry and Daphne's relationship to be slowly built over time to simple but endearing results.

Lastly, another thing that stood out for me was how the story quite literally stood on its own without any of the convenient highlights of the source material. The author makes full use of his own plot elements and yet, the build-up of every scene all the way toward the climax was exciting, well-paced and absolutely breathtaking. All of these, alongside the charming love story patiently built between Harry and Daphne makes for doubly potent combination at its conclusion.

Final word of thanks to the author for sharing this work with us. I look forward to any other work you have in the future. Congratulations on this piece!

Absolutely brilliant!

I don't usually make chapter reviews (I usually write an overall review after the whole fic) but the Jenny bit was really hilarious. The "Poor Jenny. :(" at the end actually physically made me laugh!

Great stuff! Genuinely one of the funniest (but also tremendously well-developed) fanfictions I have ever read. Looking forward to reading the rest of it!

I really enjoyed this story. I’ve tried several Harry Daphne stories recently and feel like Daphne is often a Mary Sue. She could be any character in the series. I like how you built on what little we know about the Greengrasses and made her feel real. I also like how you handled Ginny. So often she is dismissed in a Harry/OC fic. Here she was still Ginny but missed her opportunity with Harry because she chose to date Dean Thomas. Definitely going in my favorites. I’m a re-reader.

This is the first Daphne fic I’ve read and wow, I loved it! You write so well and I can see why so many people love this story! I guess my only drawbacks were that I like Dumbledore a lot more than you do, it seems, haha. But I like that you sort of redermed him by the end. I just don’t think Harry would be so negative towards him. Other than that I loved your story! Thank you!

This was refreshing to read and I adored the relationship with daph, her sister, and Tracy.

Wish there was a bit more romance, but I enjoyed what I got.

Why didn’t he offer to take her to her dorm under the cloak?

And she didn’t question him on his statement of “I told her I fancied you” and just took it at face value.

God damn your TD is amazing.

This is unbelievable. It's a fantastic story, wonderful even. Romance done masterfully. It's a classic.
BillBrink chapter 23 . 7/3
Second time through, just as much fun. That's the mark of an exceptional writer. Thank you once more.
BillBrink chapter 7 . 6/29
One of the joys of finding an excellent writer, such as yourself, is reading their work multiple times and deriving as much pleasure from it as I did the first time through. I know FF won't let me review at the end as I normally do, so I thought I would take this opportunity in the middle of your story to, once again, say thank you for sharing this well written and entertaining story.
Archleone chapter 23 . 6/29
I think my only real complaint is that Harry is going to play Quidditch for a living. It's such a boring game. And a boring career. I mean, I hate sports in general, but even muggle sports seem more engaging than Quidditch. The only thing it has going for it really is that it happens in the air.

I suppose there is another thing I'd complain about, and that is the idea that Daphne basically is the one who defeated Voldemort. Harry actually did very little. He was more the medium through which she defeated his enemy. For him. Because she loves him. Which is sweet and cute, but it does make Harry himself seem pretty dull and uninteresting in comparison. I like my Harry's to be more magically competent and capable of cool wizard stuff. Not just "I fly around real good on my wooden stick and catch a shiny little ball."

There's also the whole Hallows thing that I have a terrible, awful fondness for. That is, the idea that they make Harry much more powerful somehow because he has all of them and he's technically the proper heir/owner given that he's descendant from Ignotus, and most of the other potential heirs are super dead and most never even got to touch the Cloak. Except for Dumbledore, but he never had the Cloak while he had the other two items. And there's no real evidence that he's part of the Peverell line either. They were mentioned briefly, but since this is Daphne POV and then you skipped a whole year, we never got any details on what Dumbledore actually told Harry about them or what he did with them. I like the idea that he kept them to keep them safe. I always hate it when Harry tosses two of the items away, one in a forest and the other in a tomb. Movie-Harry breaking the wand deeply offended me.

Anyway, I think "MoD-Harry" gives a fun sort of basis for crossover stories that have more of an action angle. "Harry a very kick ass wizard, go aim him at villains in another world and see what happens." But then I also am fond of isekai trash, so I /would/ like that premise.
Dangerouse chapter 23 . 6/28
This is the first Daphne/ Harry story I’ve ever finished. I’m usually majorly put off by a snooty, stuck up Daphne, but I really enjoyed your version of her. Loved the story, well done!
Sterling-Ag chapter 23 . 6/28
Another lovely story. I had just previously read Paradigm Shift and immediately went on to read this one and I couldn't put it down. It is now 5:37 in the morning and I am very glad that I don't have to go to work today. I mentioned earlier in my review of "...Shift" that your pacing seemed a bit flat. This story didn't have that problem. While there was not any direct conflict, how you used DG and HP struggle to reach a specific goal kept enough dramatic tension in the story to keep me hooked. Wonderful job and thanks. I'm going to bed now (lol) but I plan on reading your side stories to this fic next. I really liked how you developed the relationship here. When done right it is always interesting reading about how a character outside of the canon plot texts to Harry's past and you did a great job with that.
