Welcome to my profile! I assume you clicked on this because you wanted to know a little bit about me. I've been on this site for a long time, and back in high school and college, fanfic and fandoms in general were a big part of my life. Things are pretty different now, though--I'm a parent and homeowner who works full-time, so all of my hobbies, writing included, have taken a backseat to those dreaded adult responsibilities. But that doesn't mean I've completely neglected my hobbies! I've thought a number of times that my fanfic writing days were behind me, only for me to get hit with sudden inspiration again. I figure that while my fanficy self may lie dormant much of the time, it'll never really go away. I'll always have an idea or two bouncing around, and if I manage to get one finished to my (perfectionist) liking, it'll likely make its way up here. As long as I'm alive and kicking, the possibility for new fanfic will probably always be there. :) More about me: I'm a thirty-something married-with-kids (one stepson and one daughter) Midwesterner. I majored in English and Spanish at college, and also have a master's degree in information science and learning technologies (a fancy way of saying librarianship). I'm currently doing clerical/research work for local government and love my job! My hobbies, other than writing, include playing piano and flute, hiking, traveling, collecting postcards, scrapbooking, roller coasters/thrill rides, and drawing (once in a blue moon). My biggest interests are animation, especially the Golden Age of animation (Looney Tunes are my favorites, but I also love the Fleischer cartoons and pretty much all things Disney), and American history, especially the American Revolution (John Adams is my favorite founding father) and the presidents (Theodore Roosevelt is my favorite president). I'm kind of geeky and just love new information and knowledge in general, no matter what the subject... I'm the kind of person who will happily watch all of the special features on DVDs and can enjoy almost any documentary. My eclectic interests cross over into fanfic, as you can probably tell by the range of fandoms and genres I've written in. I believe pretty much any story idea can work given the right author and the right "plan of attack", as it were. I ship a wide variety of pairings, ranging from canonically happily married to crack and everything in between. ;) A more comprehensive, yet certainly still (and always) incomplete list of the ships I sail can be found here: commander30-dot-dreamwidth-dot-org/46374.html I have a bit of a weakness for hero/villain pairings and have written ship manifestos for three favorites: Mojo/Blossom, Scrooge/Magica, and Liquidator/Gosalyn, which are probably still floating around somewhere online. I can also be found under the same name at AO3: archiveofourown-dot-org/users/Commander. I have chosen to post only what I consider to be my better works there, along with a few odds and ends that aren't on this account. If a story of mine's not there, then I think there's little, if anything, redeemable about it with the possible exception of using it as an example of how NOT to write a fanfic. I can't quite bring myself to delete anything on this account, though--blame the archivist in me. Most things I wrote in college and definitely high school are not my best work and have not aged well, but they were all a very important factor in shaping my formative years, so here they stay, for better or for worse. Since I have been asked this a few times, I figured I should put it here on my profile: no, I do NOT take requests. I realize it may seem like I write quickly since when I post multi-chapter stories the updates come every few days, but please keep in mind that whether a story is one chapter or ten chapters, I always wait to start posting until the entire story is complete and edited. It actually usually takes me months to finish anything, especially the longer fics... and that's not counting the multitude of unfinished fics languishing in my files. I hardly have the time to write down even my own ideas, much less any requests I may receive. If there is a certain story idea you'd like to see written down, I heavily encourage you to try writing it yourself. Even if you don't think you can do the idea justice, just the act of writing it down will be a helpful experience, and will help you learn and grow as an author. :) I write stories that I want to read, and all I can hope for is that at least one other person wants to read them too. If you're that person, I thank you for reading, and hope you stick around for whatever might be coming up next! :) |
