There may be a one-shot story posted in between or during. JOB ENHANCEMENTS He handed over the requested item and watched her check the information against her chart. She then uncapped a nose spray bottle. "Keep your chin parallel to the floor, please." Then she squirted two sprays, one in each nostril. "All done. Thank you for coming in today." "Thank you." Spencer grabbed his book and bag and headed back to the SUV he had borrowed from work. He glanced at his watch and saw that it was a quarter after twelve so he decided to head to the mall that was half way between the clinic and work to catch some lunch. It would be a nice change and it wouldn't take any extra time. Reid parked at the end of a row and then headed in. He decided on a deli sandwich and made his purchases before finding a table in the center of the food court. The young man watched the people around him while he ate. He kept scratching at his left forearm. Reid lay his sandwich down, took off his watch, and pulled up his shirtsleeve. He couldn't see anything but his skin felt like it was crawling and it was starting to move up his arm and across his shoulders. Across the court from him, he could see two teenagers talking. One of the girls broke into tears a moment later and sadness washed over Spencer and caused his breathing to become shallow and rapid. Behind him, he heard someone shouting and his head felt like it was on fire. The young agent stood up and staggered to the bathroom where he lost his lunch. After wiping down his face with a cool paper towel, Spencer left the bathroom and proceeded back across the food court so that he could leave. He was buffeted on all sides. The emotions ran from joy to anger to hope to fear. The last sent his heart racing and he barely made it to the vehicle. Spencer started the engine and carefully maneuvered out of the parking lot. He stopped at a light and felt pins pricking his skin all along his shoulders. In the car next to him, he could see a woman yelling and gesturing at the light. The young man ran his hand through his messy long bangs and when the light changed, he headed for the side streets that would take him back to the office where he could get help. The next thing he knew was a blinding white pain slicing through his skull, it felt like his nose was running and he reached a hand up to wipe at it. He panicked when the long fingers came away streaked with blood. His vision began to waver and he slammed on the brakes unconsciously turning the wheel when he grabbed at it to steady himself. The wheels spun in gravel and then he slammed forward in his seatbelt and he screamed when his right hand slipped off the wheel and hit the dash slamming it backwards. Everything was still in the cab of the SUV and only his ragged breathing echoed off the windows. He carefully took the seat belt off and sat there. A few minutes later, he heard a tap on the side glass and turned to see a police officer gesturing for him to roll down the window. The officer's concern after seeing the blood dripping from Spencer's nose slammed into him and he grabbed his head whimpering. The man kept gesturing for him to open the door and tried the handle. The young man was scared and slid away from the officer crawling into the floorboards to get as much distance between himself and the other man. He cradled his injured hand to his chest and tried to shut out the officer. When the man became more insistent, Reid struggled to get his phone out of his pocket and pressed speed dial two. "Hotchner," came the quick reply. "Hotch, I n-need help." Spencer sobbed into the phone. |
