lulu belle chapter 1 . 4/26/2010 So, I'm kind of appalled at the lack of reviews because this is absolutely fantastic. Wow, you had me riveted and guessing and tense the entire time! What's wrong with Spencer? I read your summary, and I didn't imagine this. It's amazing! I like how you start it off with Derek needing Spencer, making Spencer strong and showing that the big guy has his weak moments too. And I like how you ended it with that, of Derek remembering the times Reid was strong and how he now has to be strong, and how he can't imagine losing that, losing Reid. You do a great job of showing Morgan's turmoil over what is happening and now having to be strong, for Spencer. And the characters are still so real and believable. I've been thinking of doing a story with Reid and mental illness, especially him confronting his fears about it since schizophrenia is genetic. This is really giving me inspiration. I just had to review and let you know how fabulous and well written I thought this was. I liked how Reid's possible mental illness/symptoms were subtle; that you started with the ransacked/disorganized apartment, going through each room and things that Reid would never do/allow happen before we finally get to Reid. And even then it isn't a huge dramatic blow up, he just doesn't move, doesn't answer. "I hear an alarm." "THere's no beeping." "I know." I think that captures everything perfectly. Reid is the brightest kid of the class; he knows about mental illness first hand from his mother, he knows the statistics, etc. He knows he is at risk. And that statement also gets to the heart of a lot of mental illnesses. You KNOW it's not right or does't make sense, but you can't stop. You can't help it. It's all that matters, all that consumes your mind. And that's the problem, isn't it? It's all in your mind. |
