Author has written 125 stories for Super Smash Brothers, Mario, Pokémon, Legend of Zelda, Law and Order: CI, Advance Wars, Ice Climber, Mentalist, In Plain Sight, Person of Interest, Need for Speed series, Star Fox, Teen Titans, Donkey Kong Country, Avengers, and Fire Emblem. Time is incredibly fickle. As it stands, it is May of 2016, if you’re reading this later and I’m as lazy as I used to be then as I am now and as I certainly have been before. I am no longer an eighteen year old boy but a twenty-one year old woman. Yeah, funny story. I’m not in a mood to tell you personally, but you’ll probably finding it leaking into my pieces, as life usually does. I am but a humble puppetmaster weaving together the characters of others to serve my nefarious needs, after all. If you still care about who writes these stories, or still care about these stories at all, then I’m rather amazed. My heyday has long passed and I get the sense that no matter what or how much I post I’m going to be chasing those days for as long as I live. I could be writing in 2046 and people won’t care like they did in 2012. Still, I bet every generation thinks they’re the last one. I know I sure feel it, and generations on the internet go way too fast. Out of all of the writers I met in the Smash Brothers graduation class of 2011-2013, I can count on maybe one hand those who still write for them, if they write at all. I might be the last of my kind. Out of my ninety-six stories and pieces, I remember writing one about someone crazy staying behind when all of their peers have left. I just hope I appreciate what I had. Nevertheless, I’m here, so I feel obligated to introduce myself. Hi, I’m MessengerOfDreams. I write for Nintendo predominantly, with occasional and truly misinformed forays into other mediums. I’ve been writing since I was a little kit, and every year of writing is better than the last- though it just makes the prior look that much worse every time. Harsh truths of writing, kids. In 2011 I was cocksure I was good enough to enter a writing contest so I submitted a true piece of shit as my first fic and was promptly thrown into last place by a considerable margin. Of course, then I went on to WIN a contest the exact same year, so I’ve always gotten very mixed signals. I’ve been around a bit- I’ve done some time with The Reviews Lounge, Too, which has now almost entirely recycled its membership, so even I have places where I used to be and left so it’s not like I have room to talk. Either way, the one thing consistent with me is that I write on fanfiction. I alternate the functions of a character regardless of who they are- favorites or not. I enjoy the versatility one vessel can have and you can even see my growth arc with some characters as I grow up as a writer. I feel like most people should be open minded writers just as they are readers, because that’s how you get the best out of the mediums gifted to you. You’ll find that I am not nearly as active as I used to be. However, I used to be a freak of nature with my writing. I’ve got 96 things on my page, mostly stories, and I think seventy of them are 2012 or earlier or some absurd number like that. Yeah, depression’s a bitch. Still, this has just reduced me to making pieces at the rate of a normal human being. I do love to write when I can manage it so I still leave out my little flares in my own stomping grounds to see if anyone’s still out there. Reading down my page, I used to indulge in things like OTPs and games like that. Having no clue how many One is, I had a list of them. Some are way better in writing than others, but very different ones are more fun for me to write than others. I had a few odd ones in my day that I’ll still defend- Lucina x Diddy should be the most popular ship ever- but as it stands I don’t really have OTPs anymore because whatever craze I latched onto I probably have traded out for another; at the same time there are many pairings I’d like to try that I’ve yet to get a solid idea for. I also used to not swear. That’s just goddamn adorable. Now we’re getting into the sad stuff- the stories in Smash that inspired me, and the people who inspired me in general. I have a tattoo on my wrist that says “Let them forget nothing” which was part of my sign-in “please don’t sue me Nintendo I am a poor girl from a poor family” line. So I am officially one of the few people arrogant enough to tattoo-quote themselves, but it truly is only out of love for my peers, who have written incredible pieces, to the point where I’ll leave them alone when so much of my old profile is going to be shipped out of here. Especially that little writing piece at the top. Yeah MoD poetry is not your thing but nice try cutie. I really mean it, guys. I think every writer has a time that’s a piece of their heart, especially here where the community is rampant. Even if the fics are shit in retrospect and people outdo themselves when you no longer matter if you ever did, these things shape you as a writer and they deserve their place. If you like anything I write now, then it’s because of stories and people like these, and they deserve recognition. Even if they never see this page or this site again, they’re the only reason I’m still around. I’m the flare in the night still keeping a lookout for them. I had a set of fics I recommend out of my 90 or so just below but even that list is garbage. That’s what time does. It changes your perceptions and it makes you realize that for every bit you’ve grown, you’ve got a long ways to go. The day you stop growing is the day you die, and just as much as that means you’re going to get better, it also means you’ve written a lot worse in your past. All of these people I’ve got below me, eighteen year old me praising to high heavens… Christ, I talk to so few of them, but I don’t have the heart in me to remove them. I don’t read anymore, I don’t have the friends I used to, and I certainly don’t know if I’ll ever be the idealist I used to brag about being, which is like bragging about being blind. The last people I talked to when I wasn’t the hermit I am now, they were these people. This is so ancient it may as well be on a cave, but they deserve better than what I have now, so I’ll give them this. At the bottom of my old page I wrote “Time changes everything, including my moods and maybe my writing, but it will never change me”. Kid, if only you knew, you adorable little idiot. Time’s purpose IS to change you, is to develop you. If I wrote the way I wrote in 2011 I wouldn’t be writing at all and the nothing I write would still be higher quality. That’s time. It’s fickle, and it’s impatient, but you don’t stop it from changing you. You let it develop you as a person… and then you keep everything else as a little souvenir. Maybe someone else reads it someday. Maybe that’s how they grow. Hopefully this profile gives you a little something out of it. It's the last you'll hear from me, though- it's time to see who I used to be. It'll be closer to who you are more than who I am now will ever be. Time is incredibly fickle. PRE-2013 Profile Some great examples of standout Smash Brothers works: These works have all but been scripture to me written by some of the best authors there are. orthodox or Under my Over by Tune4Toons While You Were Asleep by Araceli L The Eulogy and the Unsung Hero or A Step Down from Perfect by Byoshi Oh, Look, Another Stupid Truth or Dare Story by The Stupendous Jimbo Everybody's Brawl led by CEOBrainz and featuring over thirty different authors, myself included. rebirth or asleep by LadyPaprika Speak Now by whatever-the-hell-her-name-is-this-week An Eternity to Remember by Souldin Super Smash Brothers is a section with its ups and downs, but it's the place I started, so I'll always have a soft spot for it as my hometown. And as these works show, some truly amazing things have been done within it. I refuse to steal all the glory- there are other amazing authors that should be recognized as well, many of whom don't get the love they deserve. Tune4Toons- Her way with words is simply cutting, yet beautiful when it makes you bleed. She is a master of writing who's learned from the best. Her style is cold, calculated, and relentless. She can break your heart, chill your blood or make you smile depending on her mood that day. She is possibly the first stop you want to go to if you want to learn what writing with every corner of your mind looks like. This woman is brilliant, and is one of the biggest assets in my own writing I've found in recent times. And she's only 16! Araceli L- I've probably gathered the most influence in my writing from Araceli L. Over time, she's become my closest friend, and it's because of how similar we are. We are both hyperemotional, idealistic romantics who pour every inch of their soul into their work. And if you thought I did it well, you ain't seen nothing yet, kid. Very mature writing for someone who is also 16. The kids are pretty goddamn all right. Byoshi- The goddess queen and ruler of the best of Super Smash Brothers. Her sagas are a force of nature you simply cannot afford to miss. She also served as a beta for my story Play, which is akin to Jimi Hendrix giving you guitar lessons. LadyPaprika- She was born to write, and it shows. From light pieces to dark, everything she pulls off is completely satisfying, with effort put into all categories that it is just about flawless. She breathes life into corners we don't dare to visit, can make the darkest corners of our minds accessible, and doesn't let any subject or storyline limit her. I fear that not enough people truly appreciate her; she should be just as big a name as anyone from the Smash Brothers section. The Stupendous Jimbo leans towards outrageous, often dark humor, but having come to know the guy, he's insanely insightful. You can read his works to see how you shouldn't write a fanfiction work through the Farces of Evil (I made that up myself), and then check out some of his serious works to see how you should. The Death Frisbee is an English teacher, and I was lucky enough to have her smack my hand with her metaphorical rumor when I constructed Samskeyti. She's the queen of spelling and grammar, and I've learned a lot of finesse from her. Even outside of that, she writes some amazing Sherlock work, the best I've seen on Fanfiction. Transfigured Night is a must if you're a fan, or even if you're not. RedheadedMarina and ReadingBlueWolf are two of the sweetest people I've ever had the privilege to meet, and they've given me countless oodles of encouragement. It's an honor, because they're both amazing writers I've met through the Reviews Lounge, too. Red has a fantastic X-Men story, whereas Blue has a fantastic Avengers story. hardlyloquacious- As I've mentioned up in OTPs, this woman has done more for one pairing with her writing than we will ever do for anything when we pick up our pen and paper. She's breathed new life into the duo from The Mentalist; even if you don't follow the show, you'll know them better than if you'd watched it yourself. If you want to know what devotion and dedication looks like, go here. She's not put out an unsatisfying work yet. Sigcius is responsible for the story that sparked my interest to writing my own fanfics, which has given me the passion to continue writing. No matter what section you're from, A War Apart is a masterpiece that should be mandatory reading for ficcers. LightningLaveau- Firefly, a brilliant take on Mario Kart, is my pick for best fanfiction ever. It does everything a great fanfic should do- establish amazingly rendered and interpreted characters, a unique but engaging universe, a compelling plot, and excellent enough writing to keep you hanging on every word. The fact that I'm 75% of the following for the story is criminal. Read it. Sometimes the best authors out there are the ones you don't notice. Take a closer look. Pick a work that doesn't have much of a following. You might be surprised. I certainly was. Where the hell would I be on this site without good friends? I have many people to thank, from authors I've talked to once or twice to authors who have become some of the most important people in my life. And they deserve a mention, they really do. The very least I could do. Autistic: You are pretty much one of the coolest cats I know. You write well, you overcome your obstacles and use it for good. That I can respect. You also read more fics than Souldin and I combined which is badass. :D Your drive to learn won't be forgotten. Byoshi- You were and still are the ruler of Smash Bros fanfiction. You see the characters in such a deep light and so fleshed out that you are a huge inspiration for me. And you needn't worry about if you're doing good or if you should keep it up. This section is honored to have you. Thanks for being an exceptional beta reader and an exceptional author. Your skill and effort won't be forgotten. GenericDude- Why is it I just now noticed what a terrific author you are? You wrote the first fic that, even with all its flaws, kept me happy and dwelling on it for a week after. When I thought about it I'd smile real wide. And you're even better now. Keep it up. Your constant ability to write won't be forgotten. Guessworks- You know more about what it's like to be a human than most anyone I've met. You're incredibly intelligent, incredibly real and damn good at what you do. It's always incredible when someone you admire to death admires you just as much and neither of you really know it. :D Your passion and love for your work won't be forgotten. TheDeathFrisbee- You're an absolute boss. You're a tough critic but that's excellent as far as I'm concerned. You're pretty much the queen of grammar, and you're incredibly smart to boot. :) You write like a classical genius and you're a ton of fun. You and your chapter titles named after classical music and all the other great qualities that come with you won't be forgotten. JSparks- I'll go up to bat for you anyday. You're one of the single sweetest, kindest people ever, but you are brave as hell, girl. And don't say you're not, you are. And also, you don't owe me a damn thing for me standing up for you after all that happened. And f@ the haters. They're the losers, they aren't friends with you. Your bravery in the face of adversity won't be forgotten. James Terrazen- For the life in me... I don't know where the hell you came from with your random reviews, but you're one of the coolest dudes I know with your awesome one liner reviews and having the gumption to be one of the few who will be harsh on a bad fic without being a tool. People could learn from your example. Also, the fact that you went to bat for JSparks just defined you as a brave, incredible individual as I didn't know you were that rooted into the community and its members. Your gumption and rebellious spirit won't be forgotten. GoldFountain- Thanks for giving me faith in the Smash Section again with such brilliant, gutsy and original writing. Never doubt that you have incredible talent, because I won't forget it. EHWIES- You were a brilliant introduction to the Reviews Lounge, too. Your inclusion of my story into your archives and then as story of the week made me feel like a true author for the first time. You're highly intelligent, infectiously spirited and just overall brightness. Your cheerful outreach won't be forgotten. Foxpilot- You're like the big internet brother I never had; very welcome as I always wanted an older sibling. You're incredibly helpful, not afraid to criticize, honest, professional, crazy, friendly, unprofessional, skilled, humble, proud... you're what makes a human being, and a damn good one at that. The Smash Bros section owes so much to you... and so do many aspiring authors, like me. Your commitment to the growth of many new authors, myself included, won't be forgotten. I owe you a lot in particular. kyouji kanji- I don't know you as much as I do the others but for someone of your genre you're just as chill as us gamer kids. And you're a damn good author as well- you should try screenwriting, ya know? Your immaculate work and humble charm won't be forgotten. RedheadedMarina- You are a fascinating writer and such an uplifting person. You flatter me with your compliments, really you do, but I'm thankful for them. Your support and the way you boost one's spirits won't be forgotten. Layla.Kagamine/Romeo.Cinderella/yournamewillprobablybedifferentbythetimeIeditthisagain- You're one of the few people who can write works that I literally fell in love with. You're a very sweet person as well. We need more hopeless romantics like you in the world. Your beautiful rose tint won't ever be forgotten. Lightning Laveau- You're one of those people who are just so much fun to watch- in their writing and outside of it. Simple as that. It's been an honor to be your Ascended Fanboy and become a friend to you, and it's been an honor to have meant something to you. Your infectious happiness and your brilliant work won't be forgotten. Desktop Warrior (aka Time!)- People as willingly helpful and cordial as you are a blessing to have, especially for such a newbie to the RLt as I was. Thanks for going out of your way to help me play Review Tag. Your efforts to better the RLt won't be forgotten. lovely-logic- Cheers to a lady with kind words, incredible writing talent, spirited demeanor and constructive criticism. You truly are a lovely person and I'm glad you're here. Your skill and the smiles you bring won't be forgotten. Pikana- You know, I have to respect that you don't give a damn about anything anyone thinks or any boundaries about anything. You are who you are- you write yaoi, yuri, incest, anything that makes anyone squirm, and you date a freaking pokemon. And you're sooooooooooo effing cool. You're like Lady Gaga, but more original. :D Work the crazy and go places with it! That crazy and the guts behind it won't be forgotten. Sigcius- You're the first author and story I ever favorited, and it was nice not only to read an amazing story (and I'm actually rereading it in the last few days) but to see an author I identified with, especially reading the process and behind the scenes. If you could do it, hell, maybe I could too! Your mastercrafted work and how you introduced me to Fanfiction won't be forgotten. Soundwave0107- You were the first person to review me, and you gave me a great review. I was super worried this site was going to be all formal and d%#chey, but you busted that notion in half. A great welcoming committee and what really inspired me to make friends here. Your friendly welcome won't be forgotten. Ze Dybbuk- You're gut-bustingly hilarious, inside fics and in normal conversation. You also know you're pretty cool, and I like that. And you still owe me that drawing, but hey, you said before the four horsemen of death stomp the earth and that hasn't happened yet. xD Your being the coolest of all cats won't be forgotten. Souldin- I know that techincally we were bound by law ;) but not only was it an honor to win the Review King's contest, but to have you continuously review all 40 of my fics without complaint or fail, and being completely unbiased while still being a friend and cordial and all that. Thanks for everything! Your hard work into all of those reviews and how they shaped the way I write now (as well as the two "Astonishing job, keep up the fantastic work"s) won't be forgotten. PitFTW- You do damn good work and incredibly good contests. The AU contest you did with Foxpilot was what got me started in Ficcing and then revitalizing my writing altogether. Thanks! The way you provided the drive for many authors to start won't be forgotten. Truetobeblue- It's always real great to see that one of my writing heroes has spontaneously favorited and loved my own works. And you're still as good as ever, and as friendly as ever- in fact, thanks for the preview on your next story! Your idealistic influence won't be forgotten. hardly loquacious- Haha, and I thought I was a workhorse. You did a whole month's work of fics in a row, and here's the thing- they were all so awesome! You are the writer to go to for excellent Mentalist fics, and you're like the nicest person to boot. Also, your username is awesome. Turns out when you search hardly l, your name is one of the first results! :D That's something. Your remarkable passion for all the pieces you do won't be forgotten. Joebthegreat- You're a bit uncouth at times, but that's part of what makes you cool- even when you're totally rude, you're still genuinely a good guy. :D Your brash honesty won't be forgotten. CharmyMew- I remember you most for being an eloquent fan who is incredibly kind in her reviews. You really made a difference and you're encouraging me to this day. That eloquence, especially for someone as selectively mute as you, is remarkable and won't be forgotten. Lays- It's not everyday you review a two year old fic and the author responds and is totally willing to talk and share ideas and accept advice. Even if I didn't keep in touch (I'm so sorry!) you were a great conversant. Never worry about your replies being too long. ;) Your effort in your correspondence won't be forgotten. Tealfrog26- I'm still a big fan. You're truly underrated and very brilliant, and you bring out humanity from anywhere. That won't be forgotten. EggplantWitch- At first I knew you as the girl who left me tough reviews on Strings. You're like one of the kindest people, though... which seems to be a recurring theme around here with my friends. You've got that special sort of kind charm, where you instantly want to befriend them. Thanks for being honest, too. :D Your constructive criticism and your perseverance won't be forgotten. Sweswe: Your humility is completely charming, as is your sense of humor and personal open-ness, and you write amazingly. Never forget that. You won't be forgotten. and of course, some of the greatest people I've ever met through this site. Tune4Toons- You are a wonder. You say I inspired you, and now you inspire me. You're a dear friend, a good conversant, and a loyal person with incredible writing skill. You're just a joy to have around! At some times a kid sister, at others a figure I look up to, I don't know if there will ever be anyone quite like you. You are an anomaly. Your exuberant presence and constant life as a source of inspiration won't be forgotten. The Stupendous Jimbo- You write hilarious, scathing commentary... and you're, like, the most humble, good spirited guy. You have a wisdom that is unbefitting of a guy with your sort of sense of humor, and it shows just how complex people can be. You've taught me many things about writing, about life and about humanity. You're a ton of fun to shoot the breeze with and a damn funny person (of course.) You're a strong asset to the history of this here Smash Bros. section. Your subtle intelligence and biting wit won't be forgotten. LadyPaprika- There is something simply radiant about you. Don't ever forget that. I've never met someone quite as insightful as you. You're someone I often look up to on many things, and you're one of the few I can have a completely balanced and fair conversation with. And of course you're a lot of fun as well. You've got lots of spunk and charisma. Your wisdom and grace won't be forgotten. Kattheamazing- You're one of the coolest cats I've ever met. You're totally crazy yet it's balanced enough to be really inspiring as well. You've also been incredibly loyal, always finding a way to keep in touch, and going the extra mile for a friend. Very happy to have met you. :D Your humor and bright spirit won't be forgotten. MouseMaster42- You're one of the single most open, welcoming and outgoing people I've met. You address every reviewer cordially and you are a true friend. I mean... do you know how awesome you are? You are, like, one of the most grateful, humble people I've seen- do you know that I think you are perhaps more cool than you think of me? Your love for your following and your confident humility won't be forgotten. Araceli L. God, girl. You're one of the best friends I've ever had. I don't know what compliment I haven't given you, but... every kind word I've said that you accepted with a quick blush (or as close as you get over text), just know that I really mean everything I said. Every damn thing. ;) (get it? Damn's an in joke... hahahaha?) I owe you a lot. You're a great author, an amazing friend, and you should know that, like, everyone thinks you're awesome. And you've grown so much since I've first met you over two years ago, but that makes sense, because so have I. I won't ever, ever forget you, because hopefully I'll never have reason to need to only remember you. I hope to be something permanent for you as you are for me. I never will regret meeting you. The crazy thing is, I still haven't. -MessengerOfDreams |
