And, while the fanfics are written purely by fans for fans, the original series they are based on is called, "Hey Arnold!", originally shown on Nickelodeon during the 90's, current copyright 2014 held by Viacom International Inc., marketed by Shout! Factory, and originally created by Craig Bartlett and his many assistants. There, now ain't I a saint? A PROFILE JOURNAL: I used to write as Inudaughter many years ago. Hence the name Inudaughter Returns. No big plans but I'd like to do a bit of reading. I have a full time food service job (SALAD IS EVIL!) and I am an amateur writer of fantasy, sci-fi, and poetry (4 published so far). These I try to sell at book fairs. No luck so far. I'm a bit gloomy now because I watched Hey Arnold for the first time like two months ago and loved it! But now I've run out of material to see. SO SAD. SO I might write a little fanfic or something. Profile Update: Okay, so now it's been a month and a half since I've returned here. I wish to thank SexyChief particularly for reviewing and just being all around awesome- a reader and supporter of the fanfic craft. Is there a fanfic craft? I think so. I've read enough of these things to know that some people take it less serious than texting but some pour their whole life into it. There are people of varied talents and styles. But some common themes come up often. The most important lesson in all of fanfic? Romance is an important topic for all ages. I love it when people dig down deeper into characters for thoughtful relevations on family, friendship, fate, ect. Fanfiction does all these things! So, yes I do take it seriously as a vehicle for creative expression. Number one read and all round best fanfic so far is Case Pink Book Reopened by GardenOFeden777. A must read! It's under my favorites list. There are lots of fics I've favorited. Many are imperfect but they try. But the Pink Book Revisited is solid gold. Profile Update #2! Well, it's been like three months back now and I've gotten a little ambitious. I'm having a blast writing a whole slew of fanfics. For all my readers and reviewers out there, thanks. Without the souls of real people, a book is naught but stains on a page. Think about it, really. Homer may have written the Odyssey. But it's because of the audience that Ulysses lives still- as immortal as the human imagination. Profile Update#3! Cool, this is turning into a diary page! It's been like, four months now and I've gotten ambitious. With roughly 3,000 to 4,000 views per month, I feel it's worth my time, especially thanks to my dedicated reviewers! Thanks, guys! I currently have thirty-five stories or 'fake episodes' under production. Most are very bare notes (a concept design), but some are a real work in progress. I may have to slow down a bit for a while, but we'll see. So please stop by again for more fun! Profile Update #4. Holy Crackers, as Helga would say! I just saw my old account, Inudaughter, which I can't access because the old email account I had is gone. There is like 212 reviews and a lot of people asking about "Never Use Cologne Near a Half Demon". I thought I finished that. But at some point, I should take some time out to rewrite the ending and post it on this new account! Sorry people. I had actually kind of given up thinking people read that fic since it is 114 chapters long. No one seemed to get that far. Plus I had stuff going on. Right now, I'm a career woman and I write during free time, so I'll see what I can manage between a full-time job, the care of the orchard I've planted, and other stuff. Profile Update #5. The beauty of words! I'm really having fun writing this stuff. But I've also gotten ambitious. Statistically speaking, all the stories I post featuring side characters garner a lot less interest. "Invisible Swan" has the most cumulative views, period. But titles featuring Arnold and Helga also have significant stats, most especially "Arnold Goes Bad." The suggestive nature of the title itself proved alluring to most people. I don't know if I'll make that goal of 5,000 views this month, but I don't regret dabbling in the side characters. I have always been and will always be a rogue writer. So there will definitely be more more walks with side characters in the future, but Arnold and Helga will always have a part to play in the tale. What I really need are suggestions for Phoebe and Gerald because I am feeling like they are forgotten. P.S. Thank you guys! You are the BEST! I reached my goal! "May Stats: For the month of 2016-05, there have been a total of 5,068 Views and 2,612 Visitors to all of your stories". YES!!!! Profile Update #6. Well, because I am slightly vain sometimes and since right now I have a minor case of heatstroke from planting trees outside in June, I am going to talk about my writing process. Well, in the course of reading thousands of fanfics and being an exceptionally picky bugger about my entertainment I came up with one extremely effective process. Two, really. The first is to consider the emotional development and needs of fans. NOT the writer. After all, literature only works if it plays strings to people's psychology. The second is reverse engineering. When speaking of technology, this means breaking apart an invention into its parts, considering how it is best reassembled, and analyzing its strengths and weaknesses. The word "weakness" is the most important to a fanfic writer. In every work, there are gaps, hints, mistakes, weakly explained occurrences, unexplored plots, moments which reveal a writer's underlying thoughts, interesting objects or locations, suggestions of a characters underlying psychology especially for future events, undeveloped characters, abandoned reveals, and so on. I believe that fundamentally, what separates great fanfiction from not-so-great is that it is a mortar to what the builders did not fill. We have the unique liberty of finding the gaps and repairing them, partly because we're free agents, but partly because we're people oddly obsessed with perfection. The love we have for great literature knows no bounds and so if that classic tale gathering dust on the shelf grows old- WE TEAR IT APART and make it fresh. New. Revitalized. Now, for a lot of B-flicks that's true. But for the most exceptional literature, it's all about the opportunity for continuation, not correction. That is certainly true of my work with Hey Arnold. The founders did an exceptional job with the show. And yet, partly because it was so deep, I was able to reverse engineer it to discover themes within the original show that would become "Invisible Swan". Fundamentally, the issues which are most important to the show and to the characters are how a love at such a young age will be affected by their ages and the people around them. The personalities of the characters themselves are also critically important. It would have been a much different tale if I had read different souls and behaviors from the two in all the show's scripts. But within the show itself, there were many events that could be considered foreshadowing for their fates. I seriously doubt this was intentional by the show writers, especially since this was a collaboration by many different writers. In many cases these elements were introduced only for humor. But cumulatively, they painted a portrait of a boy who could be reckless and daring when pushed, and was just as deeply as amorous as Helga in the core of his reluctant soul. Hence, Invisible Swan. That's all my gossip for now! ;) Profile Update #7. I'm always in a hurry so sometimes I make spelling and grammar mistakes which I hopefully clean up later. On that note, this is totally not mine but I think it's both funny and educational. "Grammar walks into a Bar." Three intransitive verbs walk into a bar. They sit. They Drink. They Leave. A comma splice walks into a bar, it has a drink and then leaves. A dangling modifier walks into a bar. After finishing a drink, the bartender asks it to leave. A Question mark walks into a bar? Two Quotation marks "walk into" a bar. A gerund and an infinitive walk into a bar, drinking a drink. The bar was walked into by the passive voice. The past, the present, and the future walked into a bar. It was tense. A synoynm ambles into a pub. A hyperbole totally ripped into this bar and destroyed everything. A run on sentence walks into a bar it is thirsty. Falling slowly, softly falling, the chiasmus collapsed to the bar floor. A group of homophones wok inn two a bar. The circle of powerful emotions. Optimism. Excitement. Thrill. Euphoria. Anxiety. Denial. Fear. Desperation. Panic. Capitulation. Despondency. Depression. Hope. Relief. And back to optimism again! Faults can be attractive. If we pursue dreams and ambitions, we can bring new and wonderful things. “Nothing truly valuable arises from ambition.. Stems from love towards men and objective things."
