Elena was always composed and methodical. She knew how to survive the world way before it finished. She wasn't looking for attachments, for people to call a family. Because attachments are liability, make you weak especially in this new world where dead are walking and living are more dangerous than before.

I'm pretty sure at this point, I'm writing the same story just in different ways. Oh well. This has been in my Docs for a while. I thought by posting the first chapter it might make me keep writing it. The one shot, The Long Way Home, is sort of a prequel to this one.

This story begins on the farm. We are a year into the zombie apocalypse and the group led by Rick and co. has been on the Greene farm for a few months. Beth is 19 and Daryl is 29ish. This is an AU slow burn, but is written within the context of the show.

The woman spun towards him, her eyes wide as if he had just solved a Rubix cube in under a minute; like it was some great puzzle as to the situation this woman and boy were in. Naomi Payton was Daryl Dixon's childhood best friend. In truth, they were each others only friend.
