Poll: I was rereading "All the Dreams that Might Have Been" and got very angry at it. There are some things I really like, but some things which are annoying me. The question is, should I revamp and repost the beginning of the story? Vote Now! |
![]() Author has written 22 stories for Chronicles of Narnia. I've been an avid Narnia fan since my 5th grade teacher read us the beginning of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe one rainy afternoon when she had no lesson planned. In fact, at the time (the stone age before the internet, it was) I was spinning stories about the Pevensies and Caspian who intrigued me so much. Silly me - I thought I was the only one! Of course this is not the case, and when I had a Narnia renaissance when the movie came out I was thrilled to find . A little bit about me and my stories. I have been around for quite some time. (Check out the dates on my stories). I spent a lot of time posting on here, then got distracted by a writing partner, then had a massive falling out with said partner. That falling out and life put a real dampener on my creative mojo, and for a long time I wasn’t writing anything. All of a sudden last year in June I was driving and was smacked with the idea for a fan fiction, and since then it’s been like tapping a wellspring. I haven’t been able to stop writing, and it feels fantastic. This has also resurfaced a long treasured dream of being a Real Writer (by which I mean published—I use the term semi-ironically because we are all ’real writers’ on here), so I’m also using fanfiction now to teach myself about the writing process. Given that, I actively court constructive criticism, so if you’ve read my story and have any thoughts whatsoever that you’d like to share, please don’t hesitate. I occasionally get requests when I might finish old fics, particularly things like All the Dreams that Might Have Been Redux. I’m afraid to say these projects are so far removed from where I am now as a writer that I honestly don’t know when or if I’ll get back to them. I think All the Dreams might need a second redux. In the meantime, I am working on some new projects. I’ve made a deal with myself not to post until I’ve actually finished a story, so that I don’t get into this unfinished story sitting around forever business. Also, one of the things I never used to bother with but now see as necessary is redrafting, and of course to redraft, one has to draft in the first place. At the moment, my main projects on the burner are: We Happy Few. I took inspiration from the end of The Silver Chair when Caspian goes England with Eustace and Jill and brought Peridan into our world. I was excited to post something and rushed to put this up, and am now having to scramble to complete the second draft in time with my internal deadlines (I made a promise to myself to update regularly, every Monday and Thursday). Lesson learned! As Yet Untitled Peridan Project. I am kind of obsessed with Peridan. He’s this almost generic Narnian lord in the Horse and His Boy, but at the same time he’s clearly got an important role. Edmund asks him to make sure they are completely alone when they talk about escaping Tashbaan, which suggests that Edmund trusts him considerably. He carries the Narnian banner and is at the head of the column when the Narnian army rides to Anvard, which implies he plays an important role in the army as well. But if this were the case, why didn’t he ride north to battle the giants with Peter? These observations set me thinking, and I’ve now written an actual novel about him. In draft form, it’s literally four times as long as the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (I counted). Perdian, it turns out, grew up in the Lone Islands, which have a very interesting culture, and his journey to become a hero and earn Edmund’s trust is a fascinating one to me, and taps into some social issues which I think are important. I’m in the redrafting process, which is teaching me a lot about being a writer, and I’ve had a fab time writing this. I’m hoping it will be ready to post when I’ve done posting ’We Happy Few’. After that, who knows? I can only say watch this space. A last random thought: I wish my user ID # was 24601. |
