Author has written 14 stories for Evangelion, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Girls und Panzer/ガールズ&パンツァー. This all started because of Neon Genesis Evangelion. I'm putting that right out there. I saw bits and pieces of it when growing up enough to know that I would like it, but never actually had the chance to sit down and watch it until Rebuild of Evangelion came out, which compelled me to watch End of Evangelion. Alone. At night. Without my wife (an old Eva pro) to sit down and explain what horrid thing had just happened to me. It was...brilliant. I spent three days watching it over and over, attempting to dissect what it was that I had seen. I had never been struck by characters so pitiful, yet so moving. I kept hoping that something good would come out of it. Just this one. Maybe this viewing. Or this one. This in turn led me to the page for NGE on , which led me to...Fan Fiction Recommendations. There are a lot of good Eva fics out there, and I began to enjoy these alternate takes on Hideaki Anno's brilliant universe. Each angle provided me with a new viewer's interpretation of the show. In the process of trying to dissect it, I did what I had sworn never to do: wrote a piece of fanfiction. Then another one, and another one. I guess it was like therapy: each little angle, each little play with the characters an analysis of who they were, what they did, how they would have behaved differently if, say, Gendo had hugged Shinji just once. Or if Shinji and Asuka's personalities were reversed. Or if Evangelion took place in Victorian England. You know. Simple stuff. I called the collected progress of these the EVA Sessions, and I hope to kick out each of them as time goes on. Call it therapy. In a way, I think that's what most Eva fanfiction is...simply trying to understand what was seen through more fiction. But then other fan fics occurred, for other stories. It's like an infection, in a way. Once one started, another followed. It works out: I hope to write professionally, and I see this as an excellent method to practice in a controlled environment. I can't publish these stories for money, but I can put them here for your perusal, criticism, and hopefully enjoyment. So, thanks for taking the time. And if you don't like it...blame NGE. I do! Addendum: I've gone through a series of personal and professional changes that are equal parts invigorating and soul-crushing. I have gained a lot and lost a lot in the past year. In the most literal sense, I have gained a whole new life at the cost of my old one, and I am so unhappy/happy about the whole thing that I'm essentially neutral to empty with bouts of intense happiness and deep unhappiness. Mostly it's just a lack of those things. As a result, it's been hard to motivate myself to write, when I'm dealing with other responsibilities, losing relationships I couldn't maintain, and working on the new relationships that have entered my life, and frankly figuring out what that all means while just trying to remember to put my pants on in the morning. What that means is that the fics are not dead: it's not a dead account, and everything will be updated when I am able to update it. I just wanted to give an explanation for the VERY long absence. Life sucks, FanFiction is forever. |
