Author has written 9 stories for Elder Scroll series. Update: I'm currently writing a paper for university and it feels like my head is about to explode. I need to talk to someone. About anything. I don't care. Distraction. Before I lose it completely. Send me a PM please? Pretty please? Anyone? Request to everone who reads my stories and comments on them: First of all, thank you. Thank you very much. You are what keeps every hobby-author going and the reason I always come back to my stories, even if it takes years. Second of all, something that has been bothering me for a while now: I understand there are cultural discrepancies. I am German, many of my readers are from the USA, from England, Italy, some that I know of even from Korea or Japan. We all understand criticism differently. I'd like to give a short impression of my opinions on the topic. First of all, there is every author's natural favourite: praise. Everyone loves it when people love their writing. "Your story is awesome!" or "Can't wait for the next chapter!" are very motivating and I'd be lying if I said I don't appreciate them immensely. Still, I could really, really do with some constructive criticism. Before I explain my opinion on constructive criticism, I'd first like to introduce every author's greatest nightmare: destructive / deconstructive criticism aka flame. There is at least one person who often comments on Skyrim fanfiction in a very rude and absolutely not helpful manner. Everyone who has published a few stories in this fandom has encountered him/her/it already. This person writes comments like "What's wrong with your grammar?" or "Your language is terrible!". This is not helpful and very rude. It is the exact opposite of what I'm asking for: Constructive criticism. Yes, I do want to know if my grammar is messed up or my language isn't correct. I am still learning the English language after all. But instead of "What's wrong with your writing?" people could tell me "Oh, by the way, check this or that chapter, and these commas are wrong, and here or there is a plot hole." Help me to improve my writing. Tell me what's wrong so I can change it, how else am I supposed to learn? Maybe it is a cultural thing. I don't want people to tell me how great I am, I want them to tell me what could be better than it is. Every chapter I write I want to be better than the previous one, every story is supposed to exceed its predecessors. So I humbly ask for a fair chance. Tell me how I can improve. You can not offend me with honest constructive criticism. I promise. |
