I swear that I am one of those people with some type of dyslexia. My version of it allows me to quickly read and understand something. The word shape made more sense to me than the actual spelling or sound of the word. Concepts in most scientific scholarly works are easily understood. It also meant Shakespeare, poetry, rhymes hold no appeal as they heavily depend on the spoken word. Writing something that make some sort of sense, with all the necessary prepositions, correct sentence order, parallel structure, correct form of the word itself, felt insurmountable to me. Putting my thoughts on paper (or typing it in this case), was painful because I had too many ideas. I had pieces of logical progression and no dependable writing skill or the patience to organize those chaotic notions into something coherent. The worse moment in my life is realizing that writing skill differentiates between success and high success. Sounding intelligent on paper can be more important than all the mathematics and scientific understanding. So, thus my penchant for writing fanfiction. Looking back, my writing, and my thoughts, have slowly matured and improved. All thanks to the practice I have by writing fanfiction. So thank you fanfiction! And those of you who aspire to become writers, just practice practice and practice. You know you can make it! Current obsession: Devil May Cry. I got the reboot, DmC as a birthday gift. So I binged on the game for about 12 hours (love the new game mechanic!) and binged on the old games too. Feel free to PM me with ideas. I would love to get the practice of patiently putting ideas into a word processor. |
