![]() Author has written 22 stories for Doctor Who, Dragon Ball Z, Red Dwarf, Pokémon, Incredibles, Harry Potter, Shrek, Life on Mars, Death Note, Blades of Glory, Heat Guy J, New Tricks, and StarTrek: The Next Generation. Well hello there! I'm a woman called Holly, who is twenty-four and English, and who enjoys the intricate art of storytelling - in fanfiction, and in my own original work. This is the stuff I'll read... New TricksStar Trek (TOS and TNG, mainly)Red DwarfDoctor WhoTorchwoodHot Fuzz... And this is the stuff I'll write: New TricksStar TrekRed DwarfHarry Potter (but ONLY involving original people. I love to see the daily lives of the magical community, because it's a criminally under-explored universe; it's the only fandom I can tolerate OCs in, actually.)I will venture out of those seemingly small confines at certain points, but I'm mostly a chick that knows what she likes. I'll drink that new vodka flavour because it sounds awesome, but I won't read fic on things I know nothing about, and I won't write something I can't do justice to, because writing is a passion, and to do it halfheartedly does the art a disservice. Besides, I rarely watch TV, but some things are just BEGGING to be explored! In one of my stories, you can expect any of the following, usually in large doses: Humour. I hate people in life who take themselves too seriously, so my characters follow this; even in the most desperate, dark, horrible situations, I'll try and make you giggle a little through them.Darkness. God, I LOVE angst!fics. xD Odd really, because I'm the brightest, happiest, bounciest person you could hope to meet, and there's nothing in my proverbial closet that would explain the need to explore some soul-deep misery, but it just fascinates me how characters react to the shadows of life.Romance. Nothing overly mushy, but sweetness... a level of care that only comes from intimacy. I don't quite share the fascination that the rest of the world does with love (my own relationship is fun, but not full of hearts and flowers - merely affection, and that's the best damn way!), but it's an excellent emotion to explore and discuss with fascinating characters.Odd pairings. I do love putting together some very strange people (see: Data/LaForge, Picard/Riker, Kryten/Lister, Scotty/McCoy, McCoy/Spock/Kirk triage), not because I generally have any belief in their onscreen romantic chemistry, but simply because I CAN, because if, given a different writer, sexual orientation and interpretation, they could've worked very well as an onscreen couple. Mainly done for humour; mostly mine. xDStar Trek references. I just... can't even stand how fucking TREKKIE I am. xDSpirk. Seriously, if I can make Spock/Kirk work in ANY scenario, it will happen. Because THAT pairing DOES make sense!Very, VERY fucking strange plots. Seriously, I'm working on gender reversal stories at the moment, tales devoted entirely to questionnaire responses, things where ships get ripped in half... it's all crazy shit, but it's gonna be GOOD crazy shit, honest! xD I believe that stories exist to be fantastical, and although I occasionally explore vignettes and missing scenes, rarely do my tales follow a conventional path. Conventional fic bores the shit out of me - I write to escape my dull (albeit well-paid) management career, and setting things in stupid worlds or giving them stupid plots is a fabulous way of doing that. :DOneshots. I am AWFUL at putting things into chapters. Very, VERY few of my works have stages.'Fast' writing - I adore writing panic, or hysteria, or urgency generally; it just gets the heart working and me in the moment. I also like to venture into the second person a fair bit; writing as 'you' gives one an excellent perspective that isn't as limited as the first person. Plant you in the tale, but leave you a little impartial still... fuckin' PERFECT. :DThe fics you will see below aren't necessarily relevant to what I've written here; these stories are from as far back as eight years ago, when I was at an entirely different skill level, an entirely different place in my life; a teen, before uni and independence. Some points are things that have yet to be written, but are up here because of my current mindset - this is what I WANT to start writing about, not necessarily what I have yet. Quite a few of them are stories I don't even like anymore, or make me cringe with retrospect; but they are a diary through my writing life, and to remove them would be to forget how I've grown; it's the same reason I still have the ten A5 books of fanfiction from nearly a decade past in the drawer under my bed, kept warm by the fifteen books of original fic I've done, and am continuing. I honestly haven't written in them for about seven years, but they're still ME. xD I don't write fanfic too often nowadays, as you can see, because I've got a busy life to lead, work to go to, family and friends to share good times with, original stories to hopefully one day publish - but when I do, I damn well wanna make sure people, on some level, are affected by it. My ambition in life isn't to be an author, never has been; but if I can publish things, make me people smile, laugh, cry, wince, enjoy themselves, and combine THAT with my lifetime ambition... then fuck yeah, that'll do me nicely. :D I do things with twenty-six letters in innumerate configurations, guys, exactly like the rest of us Anglophones do - but those letters can move people, inspire, create, become the best or the worst of things... and if I manage to affect you on any level, drop me a line and let me know. It's the only reward I'm interested in. I don't write to gratify myself with reviews (although everyone likes a clear, unbiased opinion), but because I want to share my imagination, my thoughts - and if that makes the world a little more cheerful for the few people who review, then absolutely brilliant. :D I will NEVER review fics that demand it in return for chapters; it is pathetic, and an insult to all those of us who just want to fucking ENJOY it. #rantover xD Write long and prosper, people! x |
