Author has written 15 stories for Legend of Zelda, Uncharted series, Final Fantasy XV, Final Fantasy VII, Ni No Kuni, and Mario. Hi, random stranger! I love lighthearted fantasy (as opposed to dark, gritty stuff like Game of Thrones) and I think the LoZ series is probably the best example of it out there (although the FFVII compilation is definitely a very close runner up). My fave LoZ games are OoT (for story) and Wind Waker/BotW (for gameplay). I greatly prefer fanfics that stay close to canon. After all, I didn't come to a site like this to read fics that are so generic that, just by removing the names of characters and places, I wouldn't even know what it's a fanfic of anymore. I think a good fanfic should be oozing with references to the canon since it's the author's opportunity to show off what a huge fan s/he is. Something I dislike in a fanfic is an implausible plot or characters that are overly OOC (except in the case of parodies which can get away with it for the sake of humor). This is a big problem with many AU and yaoi fics. I generally dislike slash pairings since they're usually at best only dubiously canon and at worst they completely contradict it. The amount of OOC-ness needed to make many slash pairings even somewhat plausible is usually cringe-worthy and I just don't care to read a fic that's often just the expression of someone's personal fetish and nothing more. I also generally find uninteresting any fic that tries to pair characters together that barely ever interacted with each other in the canon (such as TP's Link and Zelda). My fave type of fanfic is canon deviation since it's fun to see just how much can change from one little tweak to the plot (and the author deserves bonus points for deviating from canon in a way that's actually more plausible than what's seen in the canon). I also really like humorous fics and I feel that LoZ fics should especially have at least some humor. There are just too many inconsistencies, implausibilities and unexplained details (even accounting for the fact that so much can be conveniently explained away by magic) to take it as seriously as some people apparently do. I mean, just look at Tingle! Clearly, Nintendo never meant for the games to be taken all that seriously... |
