Choosing Sides - Is a Dark/Manipulative pretty much Evil Harry. Takes place during OOTP and on and starts right after the Dementor attack. What if instead of the Order coming to get him someone else did and made him an offer? What if during this time away his captor let Harry in on secrets his side isnt so keen on sharing with him? Like a certain prophecy or a Headmaster's dark secrets? I have a rough outline of what I'm doing but I could easily push a scene back or forwards and make the story longer or shorter. Its strange...THe pairing is Harry/Daphne which IS the best Harry and a Slytherin story barring Slash. I did a little research and here I go. Harry and Daphne stories just with English as the mainy setting have at the moment have 145 stories while while Millicent and Tracey dont fill an entire page of stories (less than 25) Pansy and Harry have 296. BUT if you kick up the word count from all to 60k - well Pansy and Harry have 4 stories while Daphne and Harry have 21. So yeah just a little research for ya. I know there are probably stories without the names in but well you can't find em can ya?

Magical Summer - My first fic and I am sorry for the horrors I brought upon anybody and their eyes by reading it. Not trying to say Choosing Sides is the best written piece of reading out there but I think its better than MS (at least grammar and making sense wise and not being totally unbelievable) and that means something to me. But yeah, Summer after OOTP you know the deal. Harry meets Tonks and starts learning magic - starts kicking ass and taking names later. Like I said it was my first fic and alot of people gave it good reviews and some, well some didn't and thats alright because they know and I know the story was poorly planned and written out. I didnt take my time on it and frankly didn't pay much attention to what it was doing as far as plot goes. I didn't know if I was going to end the story before the summer or continue it or kill somebody off...Its not permanentyl discontinued yet, but there isn't much hope for me continuing it seeing as I really just don't want to touch it. Its kind of like a squished bug on a floor you don't want to go near, instead you just point at it and go Eww.

Likes and Dislikes in a HP Fiction

Firstly, slash. I do not like it, not at all. I’m not a homophobic and I will read a slash story with good writing and such like any other story I just prefer a M/F pairing.

Next is super Harry stories. I don’t despise them I just feel a lot of morons make them just to get off seeing Harry throw fireballs out of his ass. I don’t mind a story where Harry gains powers over time like training and such, well not as much at least. But I can’t stand the typical, Harry goes to Gringotts and finds out he’s a lightning elemental, fire mage, natural animagi who can become every animal known to man. You know the stories, and if you’ve made one you should be ashamed of yourself.

I also hate stories where Harry is related to the founders and merlin, and then inherits fifteen seats on the wizengamot. You know the stories I’m talking about. Being the heir to Potter, Black and Gryffindor should be enough. IF any besides the Potter at all. It is possibly acceptable he can be something else if the story has the info to back it up, say if Lily Evans wasn't a muggleborn.

I don’t mind bashing of characters, for instance characters I find bash able would be Dumbles, jealous Ron and traitor/ authority following Hermione, Molly trying to get Harry and Ginny together. I see a lot of redemption possible in Snape, I don’t mind a Snape and Harry mentor story. I find Lupin un bash able as well as the twins, Tonks, Moody, Neville, Luna amongst others.

I don’t really like cross overs. I don’t mind them if I know what’s going on, basically my lack of knowledge on the story sort of makes the story unattractive to me. I don’t mind Harry/Twilight but most stories are Harry/Edward and not Bella so I stay away from them. Although I’ve been reading a good story called Hex, its Harry and Leah.

I slightly dislike anything but a wand for some reason. I don’t really like stories with swords and staves for some reason. I just find it not Harry Potter for some reason. I read a story the other day that had a Harry using magic from Dragon Ball z(Not magic but attack or energy burst) It made me want to vomit.

Stories I like. Where Harry has to train to get his skills. Powerful but not super powered Harry, Harry able to defeat wizards in a duel an such after he earned his skill. Not a Harry wakes up powerful. I like AU stories, but not necessarily cross overs. I like stories that when they happen during the school stick to canon major events but the in between is fair games. And don't your dare have him go from shit to superman thanks to a single Gringotts visist after the death of Sirius.

Time travel fics, tricky, yes tricky indeed. I like them to a certain extent, its hard to explain. So I’ll just say I like them more then dislike them.

I like seeing Harry in other house stories. For instance I’ll name a few of my favorites, Knowledge is Power has to be the best Harry in Ravenclaw, yes even better then Regulus’ stories. I read a really good time travel/AU story with Harry called its not easy being Hufflepuff. Harry sort of swaps places with Neville, it was discontinued but was still a good story. My favorite slimy Harry would have to be Dark Lord Potter, and for neutral Harry or good Slytherin Harry I would have to say On the way to greatness.

Pairings.

I like most pairings and I like the different ones the most. Everybody knows about Hermione and Ginny for her part. Not much is known about other girls in the story so the author can kind of mold the female. I prefer Hermione over Ginny for this reason, I feel Ginny is just a fan girl. I really don’t see Harry could have fallen in love with her so quick in HBP. I mean was Ginny that different than Cho? Besides being possessed of course.

Personal favorites

Harry/Hermione- I like this pairing more than Harry Ginny which is where the pairing ends for me. I read other pairings because I want to see Harry outside of the trio and around other people, with this it is either the same as canon, entirely au to change it up, or complete unadulterated Weasley bashing.

Harry/Daphne- I find these stories interesting, because the author has to also write the reactions of Hogwarts. Also the write can choose how they want Daphne to look which is a plus

Harry/Tonks or Fleur- Not harem, although I wouldn’t protest =). I mean either or, a lot of similarities between the two. Both have powers, for lack of a better word that makes them envied by woman and lusted after by men. Tonks can become anything a man could want and Fleur has the allure. I also enjoy reading stories where the author has to write Fleur butchering the English language. And if I EVER read a Harry/Fleur story where she says Harry and not Arry, I will close it A.S.A.P!!!

Harry/Cho/Susan/Hannah/Luna every Hogwarts girl- I’ll read them if I find a good one although most people don’t write many. The best I’ve found so far where To Fight the Coming Darkness and Thank You Ms. Bones. Grim decision was good but unfinished. I’ve never found a good Hannah story except for one with Neville. I thinking it was called Roses, or something like that. Ice cream delisghts was a Harry/Luna and pretty good.

I like the occasion Harry/Bellatrix pairing. The only Hellatrix story I’ve finished was Dark Witch and Necromancer although it did have some numeric problems. The story said Bellatrix was 29 in between Harry’s fifth and sixth year. Which meant that Bellatrix went to Azkaban when she was at least fourteen years older and at the oldest sixteen…

For other pairings, I don’t mind reading a Maraurders story with Lily and James, hell I’d even read a Lily and Snape story. But to be honest there isn’t much choice, like I said I’m not fan of Slash so you won’t find me reading a Padfoot railing Moony story.

Harems…I myself don’t mind a Harry and Hermione and BLANK but I’m not really a fan of Harry and eighteen whores begging for the d. It has to have some merit I suppose, I don’t really like gratuitous sex. Onto the sex subject, I prefer my stories to have Harry building a relationship with said person. Once again he has to earn it =). I like the occasional lemon although sometimes things can get creapy. For instance theres this author (Mionefan). His picture is a rather old man if I do say so myself and he writes rather provocative stories, it’s a little strange to picture an old man writing such M rated stories.

I stick to Harry because there is a lot of option. I wouldn’t mind reading a Voldemort story taling his years in Hogwarts, staying as canon as possible. Maybe showing him going from a scared orphan to psycho. But yeah the story is mainly about him so I read mainly about him, I don’t mind a Draco turns good story either.

I'd like to start this rant by calling Dumbledore a moron. I mean the man really is a moron, I could go on and on about how evil he is but I honestly just think he’s senile, I mean he did die for his own cause, the problem with him is that he lead almost everybody else with him. I mean who the fuck is left in the Order before Harry enters the forest?

Snape=His fault. Had he told McGonagall she wouldn’t have attacked Snape and he would have given Harry the memories sooner, or just told him.

Moody=His fault, he told Snape to suggest said plan which led to his death. WHy didn't they just go to the Burrow in the first place instead of Privet Drive? Fuck the Dursleys.

Bill Weasley= Had he just stopped Draco from finishing his mission the poor guy wouldn’t have been cannibalized, while alive. I mean the asshole cares more about a kid, who admitted to nearly killing two people and using the imperius curse on somebody then someone on his side. Heres another piece to this

"I… they're up to something!" said Harry and his hands curled into fists as he said it. "Professor Trelawney was just in the Room of Requirement, trying to hide her sherry bottles, and she heard Malfoy whooping, celebrating! He's trying to mend something dangerous in there and if you ask me he's fixed it at last and you're about to just walk out of school without —"

"Enough," said Dumbledore. He said it quite calmly, and yet Harry fell silent at once; he knew that he had finally crossed some invisible line. "Do you think that I have once left the school unprotected during my absences this year? I have not. Tonight, when I leave, there will again be additional protection in place. Please do not suggest that I do not take the safety of my students seriously, Harry."

"I didn't —" mumbled Harry, a little abashed, but Dumbledore cut across him.

"I do not wish to discuss the matter any further."

Of course...Death Eaters and werewolves don't count as a viable threat in the eyes of the great Albus Dumbledore...

Harry Potter= Where do I start. Leaves him with the Dursley’s. allows Voldemort to prance around the school leaving Harry to deal with him. Allows Sirius to rot in jail, how did he not know Wormtail was the spy? He knows fucking everything! Who cast the fidelius? Second year, surely there is a way for him to find out Ginny is possessed or something. He had known about horcruxes for years now, he got the memory from Slughorn.

This is another thing, I mean what the fuck is the difference from making one and more. The movie made more sense (In the half blood prince movie , the fake memory mentions nothing while in the book it mentions something about horcruxes but not more than one. The real memory in the movie talks about horcruxes while the book pretty much confirms he had made more than one .) so obviously he knew that it was something like that. Also why didn’t he just let Harry get AKed in the atrium and test out his theory?

Third year nothing really happened, in life and death situations. Fourth year, wow. How did he not know that was the real Moody? I mean you can only get so much from memories and such right? Also wouldn’t he have maybe gotten a little curious when the guy starts AKing and torturing spiders? I mean that isn’t normal is it? But of course the moment he says he’s taking Harry to get cleaned up, Albus Dumbledore to save the day.

Voldemort= First meeting “I can talk to snakes”. A few years later, said snake talker tells them that Hagrid is the heir of slytherin and is attacking Muggleborns. Of course they believe him, Dumbledore didn’t trust the boy, but that’s just Dumble’s for you, the disappointing glare is far, far worse than expulsion or Azkaban.

Neville and his parents= I would really like to know what happened to his parents. I mean were they in hiding as well? How did they get attacked? Were they even told of the prophecy?

Sirius= Had they just told Harry the prophecy he would have saved everyone an entire book and a lot of grief. Although the lone tear and hearfelt speech near the end of the book was a nice touch. I'm pissed for Dumbledore letting him rot all those years, but another thing. Why didn't Sirius break out sooner? I know, I know he broke out to get Pettigrew, then that means he really didn't care about Harry. If he didn't break out sooner that is.

Another thing I always wondered about. Why was McGonagall watching the Dursley’s all day? If it is what I think it was then that day was November 1st and Hagrid had just got Harry out of the wreck that night, Nice right? Dumble’s lets a baby stay next to his dead mother all day crying.

I know it’s a story and all but how did the whole world know that the baby had stopped Voldemort and nobody had bothered to go and check up on him? Also in Deathly Hallows they say something about the secret of Grimmauld place staying with everybody who had been told because Dumbledore died and all of them becoming secret keepers. Well Peter was the secret keeper of Godrics Hollow and he didn’t even die but eveybody knew about Voldemort turning up in Godrics Hollow. So how did Hagrid no where to find it? Also how in the world did it become a monument? It’s fucking hidden! And don't say somebody else told the secret because if Pettigrew was the secret keeper and he was alive then nobody should have known shit.

This leads to a few things, I mean if Lily and James didn’t really trust anybody then the logical explanation is that Dumbledore spread the rumor that Harry had defeated Voldemort. There's only a few people I could think that would of known where the Potter's where. Dumbledore, Sirius, and maybe McGonagall and Remus. They didn't trust Remus at the time so its iffy.

A few more things. At the end of OOTP he says he is going to tell Harry everything but he seriously doesn't even come close. He doesn't tell Harry why Snape is loyal, doesn't tell him about the horcruxes till later. Doesn't tell him that the sword can destroy them, also decides to just throw the Hallows in for the fuck of it. Another thing that really pisses me off is when they're discussing the horcruxes harry asks if theirs seven and Dumbledore tells him that theres only six knowing damn fucking well that Harry is the seventh. And if you're going to say "well he wasn't sure" then I'll say "hes a jackass for telling Snape to let Harry off himself."

Chapter 1-OOTP...as the pain in the top of Harry's head gave a particularly nasty throb, Uncle Vernon yelped and released Harry as though he had received an electric shock. Some invisible force seemed to have surged through his nephew, making him impossible to hold.

Accidental magic, but no infraction...hmm

Something else I find really funny, if you read Chapter 10 of POA. Fudge talks about Black escaping and returning Voldemort to power. Although when he does come back fudge says that Voldemort isn’t back and Black is just the one doing it all. Doesn’t make sense really.

Alot of the blame falls on JKR's writing and the mistakes she made but meh she did create a wonderful world for Fanfiction. I can honestly name five authors right now on this site who's stories about Harry Potter I would read instead of JKR's Harry Potter. Her writing style was just really predictable and, I don't know I just don't like it. She also wrote some of the books like she didn't even read the previous ones or at least pay attention to them.

Enough of my ranting for now, I will no add a little more next time I get bored and think of something fishy.
