Martin Noticeboard: 3/27/13: Wow, I haven't been on Fanfiction in forever. And, well, I haven't written any fanfiction in forever. For some reason I find it amusing and a little sad that a year ago today I was celebrating a year of Fablehaven fanfiction... I hardly have time to think about that anymore. I'd like to write more fanfiction. But I don't think I'd want to pick up on a plotline that went sour a while ago. Would it be terrible if I abandoned Spirit of Darkness for something else? Because I think if inspiration found me I might actually write something. 11/18/12: Could it be? No, not possibly - it's been over four months! But yes, an actual update of Spirit of Darkness! Chapters sixteen and seventeen are up. They were actually meant to be one chapter, but I got done typing the whole thing up and it turned out to be seven thousand words long. So rather than having one long chapter, I split it up into two. Plus, having two new chapters instead of one makes me look extremely productive ;) The school year (guess I can't call it the new school year anymore) has provided a number of frustrating hurdles for me, so I can't make any promises, but hopefully the next chapter will be up sooner. There are probably only two chapters left - the end is in sight! 9/14/12: Well, I've passed the two month point... I have NOT given up on Spirit of Darkness, but it's taking me an annoying long time. I wrote a fair amount of the next chapter while I was on vacation (over a month ago already - wow!) but I then scrapped a large part of it when I decided to go down a different path. Then when school started productivity went down to about zero. My current pattern seems to be write a bunch of dialogue in my assignment notebook during the week followed by write it out in full on the weekend. I'm also kind of short on inspiration - any suggestions for monsters/obstacles Kendra and Seth could face would be welcomed with open arms. I'm not making any promises, but I would really like to get chapter sixteen up within a month. As long as it may take, I'm not giving up yet! 7/10/12: Chapter fifteen of Spirit of Darkness is up! It took a little longer than I intended, but I finally finished. The start of the chapter may seem kind of random (very random, you might say), but after I finished chapter fourteen I realized that I had no idea what I wanted to do for Ronodin's second horn. I fished around for ideas, and this is what I came up with. So yes, it's a little weird at first, but hopefully things make sense by the end of it. I've started writing chapter sixteen, and I hope I'll be able to finish it before I go out of town, but I make no promises. Even if I don't get it posted before vacation, though, that's not going to stop me from writing, so there should be at least one more update before school starts. (Gah! School! I should stop talking before I freak myself out further.) 6/21/12:Oh my gosh, an update! An actual update! Yes, you read that right - chapter fourteen of Spirit of Darkness has been posted. Please disregard the pessimistic post below, because I think my flame of inspiration may have re-lit itself. I make no promises, but I'm fairly certain that I'll have the motivation to post as least one more chapter (considering it's already half-written xD), and hopefully finish the story. I'll do what I can to write as much as possible this summer, so here's hoping. There were a couple reasons it took me this long to get the new chapter up. The big one was the four killer due dates I had right at the end of school, and I certainly wasn't in the mood for writing. Another one, though, was that I wanted to be sure I was actually going to continue the story before I posted it. As I say in my author's note about chapter fourteen, I think of this chapter as "that chapter where everyone's mad at each other and nothing gets accomplished." If I was going to give up on Spirit of Darkness, I didn't want that to be the last chapter I left my readers with. But now I'm about halfway into chapter fifteen, so we'll see a more positive chapter someday in the future. One of the things that spurred me into posting this chapter was the introduction of the image manager by . I saw that, and I was like, "I NEED to make a cover for Spirit of Darkness." And so I did. But then I told myself that I couldn't put it up until I posted something new. Talk about incentive to type up a chapter xD You can now see that tiny little thumbnail of my cover when you look up my story in the Fablehaven category under books or when you view any chapter of my story. I was a little disappointed by the size of the image, so if you want to see the full-size thing, you can view it at http://i156 . photobucket . com/albums/t32/Doggie3388/SoDcover . png (remove the spaces). Maybe some day I'll design a cover for each of my stories... but that's a project for another day xD My Stories: Honeyfern's Last Moments - This is a poem I wrote about Honeyfern as she was dying (just like everybody else). It's my first attempt at poetry (as a fanfic), so don't be too hard on me! Apprentice Academy - Jaypaw, Hollypaw, and Lionpaw (along with the rest of the warrior cats) abandon their warrior training and attend an elementary school. Will they survive huge homework assignments, gym class, and other things they've never encountered before? Warrior High - Sequel to Apprentice Academy; Our three favorite cats, Jayfeather, Hollyleaf, and Lionblaze have graduated and have moved on to the Warriors equivalent of high school. After Sunrise - I wrote this after I finished reading Sunrise and was desperate to know what happened next. Hollyleaf is dead, which must mean that one of Whitewing's kits is part of the Three! The chosen kit must struggle to master her new powers - not to mention her regular warrior training - and fulfill the prophecy. Life as They Knew It - Crossover of Warriors and Life as We Knew It; the same events that happened in Life as We Knew It take place, but it is told from the point of view of ThunderClan cats. Earthquakes, thunderstorms, disease - will they manage to survive? Last Chance - A Rose for Melinda was possibly the saddest book I've ever read, and I spent ages dreaming up an alternate ending. Enjoy this Lurlene McDaniel and Twilight crossover! The Satiated Games - Ah, my pride and joy. My own version of the Hunger Games, written when I was in sixth grade and using people from my class (names changed for privacy). I posted this because one day at lunch, my friends told me I should try to get my work "published" because they thought I was good enough. I give them exponential amounts of gratitude, because I know that if one particular friend had never spammed my inbox this never would have been finished. Eternity - My newest story is an extension of the Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull. Eternity picks up a few years after the end of the fifth book, and Kendra is ready to become an Eternal. But wait - why are there six of them? And what's this about a sixth artifact, the Sword of Justice? It's only been three years since the closing of Zzyzx, but is it in danger of it being opened again? Long Live - A combination of my favorite series and my favorite song - can it get much better than this? Long Live is a songfic to Taylor Swift's song "Long Live." Kendra asks Bracken about his time in the dungeon at Living Mirage, and he summarizes some of the early events. There's a bit of Bracken/OC, and, of course, Bracken/Kendra. A bit more romantic than I meant for it to be, but there are worse things out there (cheesy action scenes, for example *points up at Eternity*) Spirit of Darkness - Ronodin the dark unicorn was mentioned only in passing in the fifth Fablehaven book, but the notion of dark unicorns intrigued me and I acted on it in this story. Ronodin was supposedly destroyed by the Fairy King thousands of years ago, but his corrupted horns tethered him to the world of the living in spirit form. He roams our world, searching for one of strong mind and body fit for him to possess. The one he finds is Bracken, and he ambushes the unsuspecting unicorn on an innocent outing at Fablehaven. Will Kendra be able to save him? Perhaps with the help of her brother, the Knights of the Dawn, and another unicorn, she'll be able to. But time is running short... The Perfect Gift - It's Christmastime at Fablehaven, and everyone's gathering to celebrate the holiday: Kendra, Seth, Grandma and Grandpa, Mom and Dad, Dale, Warren, Tanu, Vanessa, even Bracken. 'Tis the season to be giving, and Bracken soon realizes that he's going to need a present for his mother's handmaiden. Of course, Kendra isn't much help in providing ideas, so Bracken goes around, looking for inspiration. A short Christmas-themed oneshot with a bit of Bracken/Kendra and some Warren/Vanessa, too. Favorite Characters: Jayfeather (Warriors) Keladry (Protector of the Small) Neal (Protector of the Small) Raoul (Protector of the Small) Kendra (Fablehaven) Bracken (Fablehaven) Warren (Fablehaven) Kanda Yuu (D. Gray-Man) Vin (Mistborn) Elend (Mistborn) Favorite Pairings: Brackendra (Fablehaven) Yullen (D. Gray-Man) Lionblaze/Cinderheart (Warriors) Neal/Keladry (Protector of the Small) Farmer/Beka (Beka Cooper) Elend/Vin (Mistborn) USUK (Hetalia) GerIta (Hetalia) You may notice from the above lists that I usually have no originality whatsoever in choosing my favorite characters/pairings xD If the author writes it in, I probably approve. Notable Quotes: "If it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing." -Mythbusters "Firestar, every cat in the Clan can see that Sandstorm is very, very fond of you!" -Cinderpelt, Rising Storm "If you think you can, you can, and if you think you can't, you're right." - Unknown "If you say 'plz' because it's shorter than 'please', I'll say 'no' because it's shorter than 'yes'." - Unknown "You may not be good at winning immunity challenges, but you sure are good at pulling blindsides." - Jeff Probst "People who wear leathers, like Tanith, should ride motorbikes. People who wear exquisite suits, like me, should drive Bentleys." - Skulduggery Pleasant, Playing With Fire "You mind if I take pictures? Brought my own camera and everythin'." "And be careful, or I will not put you in the deepest, darkest, dungeon I find, understand? I will take you to the glaciers in northern Scanra and drop you in the deepest crevasse known to man." - Numair Salmalin, Wolf-Speaker "A bad name is just a fart with consonants." - Trisana Chandler, Shatterglass "No, Bear, you know better. Just one pawprint on my clothes and I will make myself a Little Bear rug." - Niklaren Goldeye, Shatterglass "That's dumb." "Please do not tell me we must go out and piss on every street corner." -Ulasim Dodeka, Trickster's Queen "What's this, cap'n? Nothin' whatsoever?!? The plank's gettin' lonely... perhaps ye should visit it?" - Neopets "Typically, a ship like this sets sail with two dinghies. Our ship, though, got one dinghy and one dingy." - Neopets "Sorry, were ye talkin' to me? I was just thinkin' about that plank an' how great you'd look walkin' it." - Neopets "Me odds of findin' the Wishing Well avatar solution are better than the captain's chances of spotting land!" - Neopets "We would ask for ye resignation, but honestly think ye aren't smart enough to sign the document." - Neopets "Perhaps you need a new vantage point from which to search? Like, from overboard, for instance..." - Neopets "I don't do stupid this early in the morning." - Me "Give it a shot. You might want to stutter - that could help sell it." - Kendra Sorenson, Keys to the Demon Prison "Who are you?" "But, Kel, you heard what he said!" "Here I was, thinking some coherent discussion was going on. Forgive me for thinking I was talking to NORMAL people." - My friend "I have the reflexes of a ninja on steroids!" - Anonymous "I'm not afraid to die. I just don't want to die surprised. And I swear to all the gods, if the last thing that goes through my mind is What the hell was that? I will hunt you down in the afterlife and punch you in the face throughout eternity." - Sonny, Darklight "You're lucky you're a feeble old man laid up in bed, or I'd kick your bum up between your ears." - Beka Cooper, Bloodhound "You're both so adorable I feel a hairball coming up." - Pounce, Bloodhound "Haha, you're a square. :P POLYGON!" "Well, if I were said force of doom, then I certainly wouldn't have used my powers to turn the land black. It just lacks flair. Red. Now, that would be an interesting color. Think of the possibilities - if the ash were red, the rivers would run like blood. Black is so monotonous that you can forget about it, but red - you'd always be thinking, 'Why, look at that. That hill is red. That evil force of doom trying to destroy me certainly has style.'" - Breeze, The Hero of Ages And that's my profile! Thanks for visiting! |
