Four Thoughts About Fanfiction:
1. I certainly think it's a fun way to express yourself.
2. I read more than I write.
3. Authors, be wary of particular things that could deter a potential reader. For instance: I will stop reading a story if I randomly see an A/N IN the actual story. Save your thoughts for the end. Also, I generally won't read stories where the author wrote, "sorry, I suck at summaries." If you have difficulty with writing something short and sweet to sum up your idea, ask for help. There is no shame in asking another for advice - I've done it.
4. When it comes to reviews, I say be careful with what you say. Don't leave 'update soon' or simply kiss ass. Authors that enjoy those reviews most likely don't care about the quality of their writing (since they clearly don't care about the quality of their reviews). If you're going to leave something snarky, at least have the balls to leave a penname so the author is capable of responding.
Pulled Stories
Some of my stories have been pulled. This has nothing to do with publishing and everything to do with vanity. Some of my earlier stories were written at the age of sixteen - back when I first discovered fanfiction. My eagerness to get something out to readers trumped my worry over literary value. I find them exceedingly childish now, overwrought with grammar mistakes that irk the hell out of me. I don't have the energy (or the time) to rewrite them and, thusly, have decided to pull them.
I do, however, still have copies. If you want one, feel free to PM and I'll send you one.
Thanks all!
