Instead of finally getting some peace, it would seem their world starts falling apart little by little...

For March's Fete des Mousquetaires challenge. The four musketeers are prepared for almost everything...but this...

[S3 AU] September 1636. The Musketeers are on their way across France to continue the fight on the northern front, but an ambush in the night sets into motion events that can change the fate of the war. Athos carries the heavy mantle of captaincy, Aramis's soul is no less restless than before, and war touches the Inseparables' brotherhood in more profound ways than they'd imagine.

Aramis tries to escape the darkness that plagues him and seeks the darkness that eludes him; because there isn't just one shade of darkness and brightness may not be all that it seems. [for the Fete des Mousquetaires competition - December prompt]

This is an AU story describing how things might have gone down if Kara Foster did not out herself and Danny Green in Lockdown. This story is independent of my other stories and is rated M for mature themes.

While on an errand for the king, Aramis and Porthos come across a child unknowingly in harm's way. Aramis' fatherly instincts begin to emerge, and he finds it harder to keep secret his longing for what he doesn't have. Aramis and Anne implied, with the other Musketeers included.
