PLEASE READ* My dear, dear readers, Fanfiction and the business of being a professional novelist are, from what I’ve been able to gather, completely incompatible. Though that’s occasionally the fault of the authors themselves, there also seems to be an enormous legal tangle that can get the author in genuine trouble if they let it be known that they even glance at fanfiction on occasion. I’ve been a fanfic author for more than a decade now, and it’s such a fundamental part of my life that I don’t think I could bear to be without it. But my first novel will be published next April, and it’s become inevitable that at some point Jenniffer Wardell and Gatekeeper will be connected by those who are even more aware of the legal tangles than I (particularly since “Fairy Godmothers, Inc.” has spent much of its long and complicated life right here). Once that happens, a huge, important part of my life will end up under someone else’s authority. And I can’t bear that. So … I’m closing my doors on my own, when the choice and format is entirely in my hands. I will give everyone a full three uninterrupted months to copy any of my fic they require for their own private reading pleasure (though I ask that you not repost). After that I’ll begin taking fic down randomly, when my heart and schedule can take it, and I make no promises as to order. This means that, while some of the fic will be up far longer than three months, there’s no way to know for certain which pieces that will be. By Feb. 11, 2013, my 12th anniversary on , everything will be gone. Please, stay in touch with me via e-mail, wingchild1(at)yahoo(dot)com, or on Facebook (www(dot)facebook(dot)com/JennifferWardell) or Twitter (gkgirl1). I don’t have sufficient words to describe everything that all of you have meant to me over the years. Fanfiction taught me how to be a writer, and my readers gave me hope and encouragement when that was the only recompense I was getting for my passion. If nothing else, it was that encouragement that kept the earliest version of “Beast Charming” long enough to become what it is today. Thank you. A thousand, million, billion thank yous. I will miss you, and miss this, always. -Gatekeeper, a.k.a. Jenniffer Wardell |
