I came across this on tumblr and was awestruck- I'm not sure how you did it, but you captured two characters in such a way that they instantly have more depth and breadth than they possessed in the film.

The idea of 'arcs and angles' is a fantastic allegory for each of their personas. Your way of overlapping and intertwining the two is superb.

As part of review, I'm supposed to give you constructive criticism. However, I can find nothing to fault. Very well done, and I'm looking forward to reading more of your work.
BruisedSmile chapter 1 . 12/10/2010
So beautifully written and you captured the characters so well. Lovely insight into the curves of creativity of Ariadne and the precise angles of Arthur, as so well demonstrated in their choice of totems, different yet complimentary, a concept which you played so well here. I love that 'worth a shot' moment in the movie; their whole relationship was a connection that was done so cleverly and subtly in the movie. Great piece with a lovely style.

I absolutely love this. In so few words you paint such vivid pictures and the attention you give their totems adds realistic detail.

You had me at the first paragraph. I can't think of a single story that has a better opening. Another favorite would be "(and it is reality, so said a red die and a golden bishop)".

Love, love, love. Thank you for sharing this.
Venitia chapter 1 . 12/5/2010
This was just so beautifully written..I think you described them so well..just the descriptions..I absolutely adored it.. and have to say..that this was my favorite line:

"And when it didn't work quite as well, at least not precisely, it was not simply "worth a shot" - it was worth another shot."

I loved that line in the movie and really liked how you utilized it in this fic.
Icicle Streams chapter 1 . 12/5/2010
I was kinda confused what was happening with the new jobs in the middle, but I really liked this story. The passive 3rd-person and present tense was really interesting, and I liked how poetic your arcs and curves were. The ending was sweet (definitely 'worth another shot!')

Great job!
RedHandedJill44 chapter 1 . 12/4/2010
Ok first of, I love the characterization you did of Ariadne and Arthur. I love how you made him angles, and her curves. You made them polar opposites that soften/harden the other up. They "fit" together, if you want to put it that way. She softens him and takes him out of his rigidness. He brings structure and order to her life. They each give each other what the other was lacking (i hope that makes sense :) Also, you kept the characters perfectly in character, which is nice and refreshing :) They are brought to life wonderfully

Secondly, I really enjoy how you show how vital the totems are to the team. They not only use them to test to see if they're awake, but also to see if enjoyable things that happen to them are a part of reality. It's an interesting spin on the "pinch me - I must be dreaming" saying :)

And last but not least, I love their relationship and the way you wrote them. You used very little dialogue, but it speaks so much for itself.

"The bishop smacked solidly against the table as they make that second attempt, but by the time it rolls into silence, he does not think to roll his die, and the arcs and angles of Ariadne and Arthur build worlds of their own to inhabit."

this might be my favorite line of the whole one-shot because it brings the two together in a way that lends not only to the action of the moment, but also to the future implications of them building a world of their own. If that world means a relationship in this reality or their dreams remains to be seen (frankly i think it's going to be a bit of both haha) but I just love that sentence for some reason. :)

All in all, a wonderful fic that deserves a standing ovation.
