Throw in some danger, then throw a rope

Lace it with irony, dose it with hope.

But don’t get caught up love, and don’t start to feel

The dragons and damsels are all in your head

Real life hails no heroes and romance is dead.

You'll abandon your shield

By a shredded banner

On a bloody field

When the battle's done

But your friends are lost

Cause the war is won

At a terrible cost

And you'll cast your sword

In the river deep

Let your armor rust

And your body sleep

And the light will shine

But the shadows creep

And they’ll all forget

What you fought to keep

And there’ll be a song

With a broken tune

When the next war comes

A life too soon

They’ll call your name

You’ll claim your shield

And stand upon

That bloodstained field

And tremble knowing

What they’d wrought

And wonder why

You ever thought

That life was something

To be sought

When death was all
