Reviews for The Serpentine Subterfuge
roseareader chapter 14 . 7/10
I Mr. Riddle didn't complete the ritual (it's said in the third book) how does Riddle Jr. exist? Riddle said that it almost killed him to reabsorb his soul, but did it in the end. What is Riddle Jr.?
TamariChan chapter 3 . 7/7
On rereading this chapter, I'm really thinking about that magical ritual that blends their hairs. It took SO much magic out of Harry, and while she may not be Lord level before her core matures, she's still got so much. They wouldn't put that spell in a book if it was impossible to perform for most wizards, surely. I have a feeling Harry may have done more than she bargained for...

I love this series so much and I love it more every time I read it.
UndrcaffedReader chapter 10 . 7/6
I’m currently in my second read through of this fic, after stumbling across it six months ago. I cannot believe it took me so long to find this, what could be more perfect than a Harry Potter/Alanna crossover. I find myself deliberately pausing after each chapter, forcing myself to just savor each piece of this story. On my first go-through, I knew I was too excited, too caught up in the story to really appreciate all the details. I knew I’d have to come back to reread it for each update, and wow I am still just overwhelmed. The following are just a few of my immediate thoughts:

Thank you for a genuinely wonderful girl!Harry, and the most masterful identity porn I have ever read. The conflict Rigel feels over her identity is addictive, and would be enough to fuel this story for me! (And all without a single mistaken pronoun in reference to Rigel! Bravo to your proof reading!)

But on top of that we get such wonderful motivation from her as a Potioneer, and it is so reminiscent of all the best of Alanna and Keladry’s worlds! I honestly think that aside for the obvious hidden identity, Rigel has so much of Kel in her, it makes her so morally appealing.

This chapter gave me chills even on my second reading of it. I could not contain my smile at the confrontation between Rigel and Caelum... I just want to cheer for Rigel! Her responses are so perfectly crafted, she expresses the perfect blend of polite disapproval and untapped magical prowess. For me, this is one of the best scenes in the entire story.

I cannot give you enough kudos, or possibly express my full appreciation that you have dedicated so much effort to such a wonderful story. Thank you so much for your hardworking, and for sharing it here!
Guest X chapter 14 . 6/22
I just had an amazing thought! Is Lionel Hurst a reference to the Lioness? If it is then AWESOME! If not then I'll still pretend it is because it's AWESOME!

I think I've used up my quota for exclamations and capitals~
Either way it's a cool reference!
Questions chapter 11 . 6/21
Pesky Pixy Pestronomi
A 'spell' to ward away Cornish Pixies
Lit: Pesky Pixie, Pester-not-me
Possibly a spell gifted to him by an irate witch.
LionelHurst chapter 1 . 6/21
My father is the one who makes potions for Remus. My father is the master of the potions guild and is unaware of my activities in the alleys. My mum on the other hand knew I was a candidate to lead the rogue before I did. As a king, it is important to have a sense of health of the people that I serve, so Krait and my mum are important contacts to have.
Guest chapter 8 . 6/20
Wait, Master Hurst brews his Wolfsbane? Hurst as in Leo Hurst, King of Thieves, and his mother the Healer? Harry's supplier is Mr Tate, and she works for Mr Krait, does this mean that the Rogue has more than a passing interest in Potions?
WanabeLadyKnight chapter 2 . 6/20
Can you do a Beka Cooper Harry Potter crossover as well? Set two hundred years before the Song of the Potioneer (currently a) quartet? Leo's great grandmother the good-hearted Auror? Let's release the Provost's Dogs!
Kokoblob9 chapter 3 . 6/17
Ok, so I'm about halfway (maybe 2/5) of the way through the chapter. I have some predictions:
1- Claw is Peter Pettigrew.
2- Lily is pregnant. Weird food cravingsle bb is here
Jjayji chapter 11 . 6/16
Congrats on writing the most non-sucky gender-bending fanfic I've ever seen! Loving it so far. Interesting that Rigel/Harry keyed her memories with The Secret, since if she were somehow incapacitated or otherwise needed to let someone in, she'd have to explain it...
TheSteelShadow chapter 3 . 6/14
I absolutely love this fic. It’s so good. The OCs are entertaining, and the characterization of the canon characters, while not canon, is awesome. There’s just one thing that has always bothered me. Why doesn’t James ask where Harry’s been. Like, wouldn’t he want to know WHERE she’s been these hours he thought she was home? I don’t know. It’s just always bothered me. Other than that, fantastic!
Caver Floyd chapter 14 . 6/9
Another good story, though I think the first one was actually noticeably better, which is kind of surprising since it is usually the opposite for fanfiction. Most likely, the reason it feels that way is because the first story had a very original and interesting conflict with the Sleeping Sickness, whereas this one was closer to canon events, even if the characters are still the awesome ones created by you.

I'm as curious as diary!Tom to find out what happened with the original opening of the Chamber to make Riddle change his plans. From the way the construct was talking, it seemed like it was planning on killing that seventh year boy that wasn't a very nice person but maybe encountered Myrtle instead and had to tie up a loose end? Maybe killing a little girl instead of a predator didn't sit well with Riddle and he changed his direction. Though that is somewhat of a stretch.

Nothing was mentioned about the book after Rigel told Dumbledore the construct had abandoned it. I would think Dumbledore would want to examine it himself. Of course, this way, Rigel can wave the book in front of Riddle's face at a later date if she still has it.
SS5 Connor chapter 14 . 6/8
Definitely got slow spots and a lot of details but still some of the best stuff here. Keep it up.
Lashblade chapter 3 . 5/28
Wonderful story I've loved every chapter. That moment of introspection by the lake might be the best scene yet.

I can't help but mention; there is absolutely zero evidence that being a vegetarian - even a 'lazy vegetarian' - is liable to stunt your growth.
Guest chapter 14 . 5/27
Dumbledore is fantastic and I love him
