~I slammed the door shut behind me, the unmitigated power of her energy caused the wood underneath me to begin to splinter.

She was getting closer.

I braced myself, my back against the door, for the inevitable. Soon, she would be upon me and I was nothing compared to her.

In hindsight, I think that’s what she wanted me to see. I was nothing and she was everything. My heart thundered in my chest as I gulped for air. Every passing instant felt like an eternity. I couldn’t handle the anticipation any longer; I squeezed my eyes shut, took a deep breath and with my hand still on the doorknob, I pulled the wooden door open.

But there was nothing. The cool night air waved hello with a soft lingering touch. My hands shook and my brain buzzed with disbelief and so many questions. Slowly, I lifted a hand to my forehead “I..? I-I..?”

“You’re not going crazy.” A calm, male voice spoke from behind me. My head whirred to look over my shoulder, so fast I got dizzy. Before I could’ve opened my mouth to speak, to question why he was here or who he was, he spoke “You’re running from Fate.” ~
