Before fanfiction I'd never written fiction before (I had to write a lot for my jobs, but nothing I ever considered to be very much fun, or at least, nothing where I got to have complete control). Through the ups and downs of life, however, I'm finding creative writing to be the best kind of therapy- a fantastic way to simultaneously have both an escape and a creative outlet (for free). There are times when I think to myself, I need to write right now.

I'd finish a novel (I did get about halfway), but I then realized I suck at character development, which unfortunately happens to be pretty critical. I found I'd much rather take characters with whom I'm already invested, and have fun adding/mixing in plot. Add the instant gratification/feedback from readers on fanfiction, and I'll admit I'm kinda hooked, off-and-on.
