About Me and My Work ... Hi, I'm a university student with penchant for fanfiction. Personality-wise, I'd say that I'm a thoroughly content Ravenpuff (combination Ravenclaw/Hufflepuff) in nature, though I pledge officially to Ravenclaw. I wouldn't say that fanfiction was my life, per se...but it makes up a significant part of it. That's been the case for a very long time. I'm so grateful for the vast community of fanfiction here online; I know now I'm not alone in my love of literature and its modification. Three of my closest friends are on fanfiction, and I must give them their due shout-outs: Escoger, Pepper Lane, and Diamond Gryphon (http://www.fanfiction.ws/u/1167578/Diamond_Gryphon). I have been a fanfiction writer since I was a little girl. I actually started by dabbling in the more esoteric medium of imaginary friends--I remember romping around my backyard with the Ace of Spades from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland and the Scarecrow from L. Frank Baum's The Wizard of Oz. Amongst these and other series, I interacted with characters from Gertrude Warner's The Boxcar Children, Reverend W. Awrdry's Thomas the Tank Engine, Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House on the Prairie, and J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan, along with the talking horses from C.S. Lewis' Narnia. I think a bunch of movie characters made frequent appearances, too, like all the 'good guys' from Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and innumerable Disney films. Oh, and I can't forget Barney the Dinosaur. These were the core of my amusement when I was young. A decade and a half later, they're rather unhappy at having been shoved away in my hope chest, but I'm in college now and haven't had a need for them since I was in my pre-teens. But it was in my pre-teens that I did start work in fanfiction, and I still indulge my whimsical fancies in said medium. I started out with Thomas the Tank Engine, then moved on to Sherlock Holmes, then The Phantom of the Opera, and now I'm stuck in Harry Potter and have been for nigh-on four years. I'm an ardent fan of Severus Snape. I love to read LE/SS (Lily Evans/Severus Snape) and HG/SS (Hermione Granger/Severus Snape) but I still don't read smut. That's not to say I won't read a fic that's got smut in it, but I'll skip a chapter or part of a chapter that has the actual smut. If the entire chapter's smut, I won't review it. That's my policy, sorry y'all. Some things are best kept private, and I don't really want to infringe on the characters' privacy. Other Ships with Snape: Irma Pince, Minerva, Poppy Pomfrey, Narcissa Malfoy, Molly Weasley, Luna Lovegood...there's not many females I would keep from him. I mostly want him to be happy, and if he can find that with someone as obscure as Emmeline Vance or as overboard as Bellatrix Lestrange, well, I'll condone it. Pretty much, my standard is, if it's got Snape in it, I'm willing to give it a chance, unless it's pure slash or it's so OOC that it makes one cringe. I'm straight, and I like Severus to be as well, but I'm willing to forgive him a minor deviation from the norm if ultimately he ends up fancying/with a female. But then again, maybe I overthink the character of Severus. I don't assert that what I think of him is the true him, because that takes away the fun of speculation, but there are certain standards that we know from canon about Severus that we can't ignore. I'll address them in an essay sometime on my LJ. Other HP Characters I Like: Luna Lovegood; I prefer EWE Luna fics. Neville is my Partner of Choice for her, though I can see her in a relationship with almost anyone. Even Snape, if not especially Snape. Why does that idea repulse people? Luna's scarcely younger than Hermione, and more likely to bring him happiness. I wrote an essay on my livejournal concerning this: In Defense of Snuna. Let me know if you find any good Snuna fics; they're elusive. I also like Neville Longbottom quite a bit, as well as Hermione Granger and Lily Evans. Non-HP stuff: Phantom of the Opera, Sherlock Holmes, Victor Hugo, Agatha Christie, Shakespeare, and Lord Peter Wimsey. As for American writers, I love Edgar Allen Poe, Mark Twain, L. Frank Baum, and John Steinbeck. I generally refuse to read Manga/Anime related fanfiction, and TV show-related will take a lot of convincing for me to pay any attention. (Unless it's something I know and love, like Get Smart or Gilligan's Island). I love musicals a lot, especially The Music Man, Wicked, The Phantom of the Opera, Hello Dolly and Les Miserables, though that list is not comprehensive. I'll give any writer a try, though, if it is understood that I am not reading his/her work for the sake of the content, but instead the form. I really, really strive for originality. I don't want to give you something that you've seen before; if you see something that someone else has done, tell me, and I'll endeavor to change it. I'll accept some useful criticism, but I'm not interested in nitpicking. Britpicking, however, is wholly acceptable. Okay, so I'll close this with a genuine note of thanks--for reading this page, and for hopefully reading my work. I moved my Plot Bunnies here to LiveJournal, so you can find them here. |
