I love this fic! LOVE IT! I was surprised I hadn't read this before, until I saw when it was posted, which was over a decade ago. It would have been posted when I was just starting to read fanfiction.

This was BRILLIANT and I ADORED the characterizations and THE DRAMA, my poor heart could not even HANDLE IT, and everything was amazing and I loved how Snape handled the ending bit. So very IC. Brilliant.

I absolutely love this story, it is a classic. Thanks for writing it. I'd go back 11 years with a time turner to vote for it, and perhaps to insist on my interior decorator finishing my house (for I am hopeless). Alas that was my greatest regret at the time!

So, I guess I'm having the same reaction as a lot of people toward the big showdown in Chapter 14. I'm finding it hard to continue reading, given how Snape has mind-raped Hermione to the point of physical trauma. Yes, Hermione betrayed his trust. Yes, Snape didn't fully realize he was injuring her. But that doesn't change how gross I felt reading how he did that to her, all while she crawls on her belly for his forgiveness - both during and afterward - and how all of this came about because Hermione was being sexually assaulted by another man, and had to PROVE her innocence to Snape.

I tried to wait and see if Snape would be held to a greater accountability, or - perhaps more reasonably in light of who the characters ARE in this story - at least to see if it took time for the relationship to heal and have to be built back up again on both sides... but I was disappointed that the reconciliation happened so quickly and the horror of what took place was never adequately addressed. Things felt like they were being rushed along so that we could get back into the mystery and the smut as soon as possible. As a consequence, I don't think the abusive behaviors Snape showed were portrayed as sensitively as they should have been.

I don't know... Maybe these things are hashed out in greater depth in later chapters, but I just don't think I have the fortitude to wait and see if they are.

This is an exceptionally brilliant story! I was well and truly hooked from the beginning. I couldn't decide how I felt from all of the twists and turns and the rawness of the emotions throughout. Lots of plot pivots and character development that kept this tale intriguing and never boring. I am so happy I came across this on a list of favorite SSHG fics...my original OTP from all the way back in 2004! Thanks for your dedication and for sharing your talents with us!

This story is great but I really take issue with this chapter. He invades her mind and physically hurts her and the entire time she's snivelling and begging forgiveness. What she did was wrong obviously, but it doesn't suddenly make it okay that he dig through all of her memories and physically hurt her.
