Following the druids' return to Camelot, a druid ambassador visiting King Arthur's court reveals the existence of Emrys, sparking a city-wide search for the elusive sorcerer. In between hiding from Camelot's knights, keeping Morgana and Agravaine in the dark, and protecting the ambassador, Merlin struggles to keep his identity a secret and stay one step ahead of his pursuers.

Kidnapped by a mad king, Arthur and Merlin must rely on each other like never before. While Arthur struggles with choices that put his heart and duty at odds, Merlin struggles just to stay alive after being stripped of his magic and freedom. Merlin saves the day - yet again - when he manages to get an injured Arthur and knights to safety. But Merlin's troubles are far from over when an investigation into what had happened to the king and knights leaves him in a bad way, and now it's Arthur and Gwaine's turn to be there for him. There were times where destiny's weight was lifted and all Gaius saw was Merlin: his cheerful, warm-hearted, beloved boy.

After a terrible accident, Merlin is left with no memory of his time in Camelot. Separated from Arthur and all who could tell him who he is, Merlin tries to piece together his life and his loyalties. But loyalties can be influenced; lives can take very different paths to the ones they were destined for. And a lost sorcerer is a very powerful and useful weapon to have.

Hunith's first reaction, upon seeing her son ride into Ealdor at a full gallop, was to panic. "He knows!" Merlin shouted, and her heart stuttered to a halt. Then he turned, and she saw the grin that encompassed every feature of his face.

Merlin attempts to cope with a new horror. "He was already burning. The flames were blazing higher and higher and..."

Not entirely surprisingly, Merlin ends up in the dungeons again... but the Knights of the Round Table never abandon one of their own.
