Daebreak, a teaser: It's 2164, and a dynasty of evil nobility- the Daens- have taken over the world, overthrowing civil government and starting a society of oppression and injustice. Intelligence and creativity are crimes, the punishment being execution at 15.

Now, Calysea McDrumond, a rebellious almost-fifteen girl, is due to be executed in a week. She dreams of escape, and when a mysterious gift comes to her- in the shape of a fifteen-year-old boy- she does, with her friends Eryf and Kan and a handful of ragged Outcasts.

But little do they know that betrayal is the way of the Daens... and elusiveness is the mark of a skilled Rebel.

Excerpt from Daebreak: “But still, you can’t do this, Cal,” said Eryf. “I don’t want to lose the only friend I have.”

“Only friend!” Cal laughed mirthlessly. “What about Stephani and Cloya, what of Tessa and Marjori? I think you just don’t want to get your hands dirty because of that sister of yours-”

Eryf shot to her feet. “Never,” she said slowly and coldly, her green eyes sparking with sudden fury, “mention my sister in this house ever again. Ever.”

Cal backed into the bed, backtracking in her words as well as her actions.

The out-of-the-blue flame died in Eryf's eyes and she sighed. "My temper has bested me yet again," she said softly. "They teach us to control our feelings in the Tenth. I am failing spectacularly, for the first time. I don't know what to do."

"That's why I'm your friend," said Cal bracingly, masking her mild surprise at the violent drop in Eryf's mood with a small, warm smile. Eryf was not usually this temperamental...

"The empathy control drugs, Cal," said Eryf. "They are supposed to be a sort of emotional sedative, but they feed your emotions and make you starving for more. They start giving them to us in the Ninth Nexium and the teachers are required to take them starting in the Fourth."

"And how do you know this?" asked Cal, horrified.

"Experience." Eryf turned to her InfoSlate and typed something in Standard Script, ಹೇಗೆ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯದ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು, Cal read, which translated roughly to 'how to escape the empire.' Over three trillion results appeared on the server. Cal’s mind was blown that so many people had either escaped or knew how to. “But where are they?” Cal’s mind asked, “There is nowhere without the empire. They encircle the globe.”

I am obsessed with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky nearly as much as some of the girls in my grade are obsessed with One Direction.

I have developed a physics theory that may save the world one day. It is called the String Theory and states that if you have an atom at both points A and B on a string, then you take out your bow and start playing the viola, then the atoms will become statically charged, the viola will spontaneously combust, and the Earth will explode in a fiery inferno. I have nicknames for my shoes, I call them 'Joe Fresh' and 'Faded Gloria'.

I have the awesomest lightsaber ever. It has a pause button. So Qui-Gon is fighting Darth Maul, who kicks Obi-Wan off the platform. Then I throw him the Awesome Saber, and he takes it and jumps back up. Then he goes up to where the fight is and clicks "PAUSE." Instantly Maul gets frozen in suspended animation, they catch him and interrogate him w/a truth serum, and the galaxy is saved.

I like to tell random, corny jokes that aren't very funny because they usually end up with large planets descending into chaos before being demolished completely
