AN: Please note, this chapter retells some of what happened at the end of the last chapter, so we see Obi-Wan's side of what happened before going forward. And yes, we will also see what happens with Sasha. Mostly this chapter will deal with the after effects of the bomb and how it is directly effecting the Kenobi's, though a little bit of the larger ramifications will start to appear. If you have not already guessed, yes this is our version of the last four episodes of season five of the Clone Wars. As our story is an au, our version will be different from the show but we thought it would be good to include another Clone Wars arc in some fashion. Anyway, we hope you enjoy this chapter and series arc. Thanks again for all our readers and those of you who have recently favorited/alerted us recently. We always appreciate the support and we love hearing from ya'll too, your thoughts on stuff. Have a blessed day.
Chapter One Hundred and Twelve
**Obi-Wan's point of view**
Meagan and I were seemingly enjoying an afternoon walk when she suddenly slowed down, asking to sit down. For a moment I was only slightly concerned but when her breathing began to change and then said something was wrong, I knew we needed to immediately take her to the Healer's. I could sense her pain and growing confusion which set me on edge but knew I needed to stay calm, stay in control. For Meagan and the baby's sake, I didn't need to panic and reaching into the Force, I kept myself firmly in control.
Carrying her, we still moved quickly toward the Healer's wing when I felt a dangerous shift in the Force. I briefly considered making a run for it, but from what I was sensing and the fact I carried very precious cargo, made a quick decision.
I set her down in a little corner, out of the main hallway, hoping it would place us out of some of the danger. I could feel something coming as I covered my wife as best as I could. The ground began shaking, a load roar was accompanied by the explosion of a bomb. The flames came close, dancing across a few of the walls and the ceilings but did not touch us, the little hole was thankfully out of the way enough to keep us from burning. But not safe from the smoke or the debris. The smoke I could do nothing about as both Meagan and I had trouble breathing as it covered everything. However, any of the debris which came close I was able to push away from us. Though feeling and seeing my wife beginning to panic, I picked her up and began to continue our journey to the Healer's.
All through this, I tried to assure my wife that everything was going to be okay, that she needed to remain calm. Soon we were getting out of the smoke's range and she was just beginning to calm, her breathing starting to become more regular when there was another cry, this one through the Force.
This one nearly sent my heart to my stomach and physically to my knees. Sasha's cry for help. Meagan's panic came back and understandably doubled. I could feel my own emotions rising within knowing all of my family was in grave danger but knew they absolutely needed me to stay calm and in control. Still moving quickly, knowing I needed to stay with Meagan, but I could ask for assistance for my daughter.
Stretching out with the Force, I sent calming waves to my daughter and knew where she was but also knew someone was coming after her, for her. Though unsure of why she was alone or if other Jedi were near her, I shifted Meagan slightly, managing to call Anakin on my com unit.
"Obi-Wan, I am headed toward the bomb site. We have mu…."
"Sasha is in danger." I immediately cut him off. "The bomb is a diversion, someone is after her, but I'm taking Meagan to the Healer's." I quickly added where I felt Sasha was.
I didn't explain further but felt he would get it, to which he did. "Headed there now Master. Ahsoka is closer than I am, so I'll send her too."
Closing off the connection, I sent my daughter a message that help was coming and to stay strong. By now, I was entering the Healer's wing to a hive of activity with the Master Healer giving directions with several heading out with supplies.
She took one look at us, asking me. "Where you near the bomb?"
"Close enough but she said something was wrong with the baby before the bomb exploded."
She gave some instructions to the remaining assistants before motioning us into a room down the hall. "What exactly happened?"
I quickly explained the rest as we walked towards the room.
Master Jessie led us into the room, giving her orders. "Get her on oxygen and I need a fetal reading stat."
I gently laid Meagan down on the bed, still hearing her cries of pain and frantic breathing, trying to encourage her, to reassure her that everything was going to be okay, though I knew from the Healer's reaction that it was not okay. I held her hand, though mindful of the healers working around us as Master Jessie examined Meagan as quickly as possible. Though Meagan, obviously scared and unsure began fighting the oxygen mask.
"We need her calm, her blood pressure is through the roof." Master Jessie said, reading the machines they had just hooked up to my wife. She then turned, preparing an injection that she soon slowly inserted into an iv drip.
Meanwhile, I reached into the Force, toward Meagan. At first I was not sure if she understood what I was saying, but she obviously at least trusted me and allowed the Healer to do her work. I had just managed to get her calm, her breathing becoming more normal when I heard.
"The baby's heartrate is still all over the place." One of the assistances said. "Are we going to take out the baby?"
"Not if I do not have to." Master Jessie looked over to me. "Is it possible the baby sensed the danger before you did and panicked?"
I could hear my comlink going off, but as it wasn't Anakin's signal, I ignored it. "Quite possibly. What does this mean?"
"The baby is still in danger, if the baby doesn't settle down, I'll have to take it out." I felt my heart plummet as she continued on. "We've already given her medication to stop the contractions but if the heart rate doesn't regulate, I will have no choice. It's not a good situation either way."
I squeezed my wife's hand as I could feel she was still so upset. "Can we get it down somehow?"
"If Meagan continues to stay calm, it could help." She paused before speaking again. "You may be able to calm it directly."
I stretched into the Force, toward the growing babe, completely unsure of how to do this. "Easy little one. It's okay, there is no more danger." I started out, stroking Meagan's middle hoping this would work. I could feel the little mind, scared and unsure. "Mummy is okay, you are both safe."
At the same time, Meagan begun to cry and I tried to comfort her as well but she was finally beginning to calm after reassuring her once again that our children would be alright. But the baby remained anxious. Stretching more deeply into the Force, I tried to reach the baby again. "Daddy's here." I sent gentle reassuring waves, not unlike the ones I used to calm Sasha when she was upset or scared. "Daddy's not going to let anything happen."
Surprisingly enough a connection buzzed along between us, as if a bond was already forming, even though I had not formed one with our child before. "Easy little one, easy now, I don't think you're ready to meet us yet. It's okay, you're safe now. Daddy's here."
Just as surprising, I felt an answer, not in any sort of words, but more of a feeling of recognition, but more importantly trust that I was right. I soon felt the baby start to calm, taking in the comfort I was sending it.
"The baby's heart rate is stabilizing." At the Healer's words, I felt my whole body sigh of relief as I noticed Meagan too was drifting in and out of sleep, certainly more calm than she had been.
Several minutes later, Master Jessie looked over from where she was studying the readings of both the baby's and Meagan's vitals and was not looking as grim as she had been. "I think the danger is passed for now."
This time I breathed a tremendous sigh of relief. "The baby is alright then?"
"I believe so, yes." The words sounded positive but her body posture suggested more caution.
So this time I asked, even though she might not have a conscience answer. "Will there be any permanent damage to either Meagan or the baby?"
Master Jessie looked back over the vital readings, deep in thought and took several moments before answering. "Meagan will more than likely not have any. However, I cannot completely assure you the baby will not have any issues."
"Is Meagan in danger of still having the baby prematurely?" Sasha had been taken early too, in order to save her and Meagan's life. Despite the fact she would probably always be small for her age, she thankfully hadn't developed any other health problems because of it. Though I would rather not challenge that luck a second time.
She thought about it again for long moments before speaking. "At this point I do not know, I certainly hope not. Meagan will need to keep off her feet for a while, I do not want her doing anything to cause something to happen. Then after that we will see. If nothing happens within the next few days, I believe she could carry full term."
I breathed out again as she said she or one of the other healer's would stop by later to check on us and they would know if anything happened to either of them. Now that this battle was done, I knew I needed to check on my daughter. I knew nothing too bad had happened or I would have certainly felt it. I called for my comlink and found the message Anakin sent saying Sasha was fine, only minor injuries and the person responsible for at least that part of the attack was in custody. He mentioned bringing Sasha into the Healer's but would keep her until he heard from us.
After reassuring Meagan again of our children's safety and at least this time, I was sure of it, she completely drifted off. I breathed a long sigh of relief, feeling my emotions swirl around, my hands shaking. I could have lost them, all of them. Still holding Meagan's hand, I meditated, bringing my emotions under control. Despite the immediate danger being gone, I still needed to stay in control. This was hardly over yet.
Once I felt centered enough, I kissed Meagan's forehead and stepped out of the room to go find Anakin and Sasha.
I soon found Anakin standing outside a room, quickly glancing around him to see Sasha sitting on Ahsoka's lap, her hands in a small bacta container. Not wanting to alert my daughter and talk to Anakin first, I put a hand on his arm.
"How's…" Before he could even finish asking, I put a finger to my lip and motioned him away. Once we were out of earshot and eye line of Ahsoka and Sasha, he continued. "Meagan?"
"The immediate danger is passed for now. She will have to take it easy for the next while but Master Jessie thinks they should be alright."
He breathed a sigh of relief. "What happened?"
I quickly briefed him on that situation then asked. "How injured is Sasha?"
"Nothing a little bacta won't heal. Some scrapes on her hands, probably some bruises here and there. I think they decided to use the containers because patches would have had a hard time sticking to her hands." I breathed another sigh of relief.
"Did she say what happened?" I asked, wanting to at least have some idea before talking to her.
"Sasha and a couple clan mates got separated from the rest of the group when they felt the bomb go off and someone came after them. He stunned the other two before coming after Sasha, who put up quite a fight apparently." I wasn't too surprised to hear that but the look on Anakin's face told me there was more to this than what he was saying. "However, Ahsoka got there before I did and said there were tables turned over and a statue was lying on its side but Sasha says she didn't do it."
I contemplated that for long moments before speaking, before clarifying. "The statue and tables in the open hallways between the gardens and the youngling's area?"
"Yes, the area was a mess." Anakin confirmed. "I didn't think she had developed enough control but then again, under duress we do things we don't think we can normally do."
I had to agree but for Sasha not to realize she did that when she was well aware of the Force was interesting to say the least.
"She also said there was a distinct presence with her, a voice, guiding her." I contemplated that as my former Padawan continued. "At first I thought she was guided more strongly by the Force, but she said it felt like another Jedi was in the room but there clearly wasn't. Ahsoka was the first one there. The rest of the Masters were either heading towards the bomb site, helping coordinate rescue efforts with the Healer's, and keeping everyone else out of the way."
"Has anyone interrogated the suspect yet?" While I knew I should not be the one questioning him, I certainly wanted to know what occurred with it.
"Not as far as I know, though he was taken down to the holding cells. The bomb has been the main thing everyone is concerned about."
"Well they succeeded on that score." I put in, the coordinating efforts of this attack beginning to make sense now. "The bomb's diversion certainly worked, thankfully Sasha alerted us and was able to defend herself before help arrived."
"You think this was orchestrated by the Sith to get to Sasha?" Anakin actually looked a little surprised at this.
"Yes, it would be too coincidental for a random being who may have been wanting to protest the war set a bomb off at the exact same time someone else planed and managed to break into the Temple and find my daughter." I paused for a moment, thinking about this. "Can you look at the security reports and see if there was another break in location?"
"Sure, if someone has already looked at it, they would only be looking for where the bomb went off, not some other part of the Temple." Anakin agreed. "I can do that right now. Do you want Ahsoka to stay to help with Sasha?"
"That would probably be for the best, at least for the moment." I glanced back toward the room where Meagan lay. I hadn't sensed anything unusual but wanted to make sure they were still doing okay.
"I'll go let Ahsoka know I'm leaving and you will be there in a few minutes." Anakin said, immediately understanding my glance.
"Thank you." Before he could say anything, I turned to go. When I got into the room, one of the Healer's was about to leave, said Meagan was still resting peacefully, her blood pressure was a little high and the baby's heart rate was normal, though at the upper end of it but both still looked to be stable.
Sitting down next to the bed, I gently pushed a few lose strands of hair away from her face. I sat there in the quiet, except the beeps of several machines, and held her hand for long moments. I soothed her gently along our bond, still feeling her worry even as she slept. I also reached for the baby, soothing it too, still surprised at the already growing bond, amazed at how it seemed to already know me.
Though needing to go see Sasha, I was just starting to pull my hand away, when Meagan stirred.
"Obi-Wan, is Sasha okay?" She looked exhausted but her mind appeared to be much clearer than what it had been. "What happened?"
"She's fine, I'm just about to go check on her." I gently stroked her hair. "Once we know what happened, we will tell you everything when you are better."
Meagan obviously didn't like my answer, but didn't protest it, only stating. "If I have to stay here tonight, so is she."
Though I was feeling the same way, knew the room wouldn't be the most comfortable way for a small child to sleep for the night but knew Meagan would insist upon it. "Alright, you get some more rest."
She yawned and fought it for a moment, but was soon falling back asleep.
"I love you." I kissed her temple before she gave me a sleepy smile as she drifted off.
I left Meagan's room, heading back to where Sasha was. Walking into the room, a droid was wrapping my daughter's hands. I stood back until it was done with its work before stepping fully into the room.
"Daddy." Sasha jumped off Ashoka's lap and raced over to me, into my open arms.
I immediately felt relief, felt my emotions coming to the surface as her small arms wrapped around my neck and I blinked away a few tears before bringing my emotions under control. A couple moments later, I kissed her cheek before pulling back. Not being able to help it, acting like a father, though I was no trained Healer, I still looked at her bandage hands and looked her over, making sure she was completely alright.
"Where is Mummy?" Sasha asked, looking around, clearly puzzled at not seeing her mother.
Not sure how to explain it or how much she would understand, I kept it simple. "We were close to where the bomb went off and she'll be okay but the Healer's want her and the baby to get some rest." In order to distract her from wanting to see her mother and wake her, I led her over to one of the benches, then pulled her into my lap. "Now, Sasha, why don't you tell me what happened? Please start at the beginning."
She told me how she and two of her friends in her clan had wondered off as they were on the way back from the gardens and they soon felt bad for doing so.
"Do you know where we should go now?" Gwenth asked.
We all looked at each other. "Maybe back to the clan rooms?" Sarabi suggested.
We all agreed and soon started to head there. We then stopped at the disturbance that echoed through the Force.
I saw my friends' eyes widen with fear. "What do we do?"
The ground started shaking and the air was filled with a roar that hurt our ears. Coughing from the smoke, we began running, away from where the smoke was coming from.
Someone appeared in front of u, making us stop. I looked up, his face looked kind but for some reason I didn't like him. "Run little one." A voice echoed in the Force.
"It's okay, I've come to take you to safety." He said, smiling slightly, reaching a hand out.
I began to tug on my friend's sleeves, not liking him, backing away.
"Now younglings, I'm taking you with me now, we need to make sure there are no more bombs." He reached out for us again, he sounded so sensible but he felt so different than what his words said.
A deep voice echoed through the air again, but I don't know if anyone else heard it. "Run little one."
This time I listened and turned to go, pulling on my friend's sleeves again. "Let's go."
We only made a few steps before they fell.
"They are only stunned, now come here kid and you'll be okay." His grin didn't seem so friendly now. "Someone just wants to see you alive and unhurt."
With that, I took off running, crying out for help as I did so but no one else seemed to be near. In a near panic, I cried out into the Force, calling for Mummy and Daddy.
"Gotcha now." Strong arms grabbed me, picking me up.
"Fight him little one." The same voice told me as I also felt Daddy tell me help was coming.
I kicked him, struggling against him, trying to make it as hard as possible on him, I believed Daddy would come. "Let me go." Using the Force, I sent his stunner flying down the hall.
"Quiet." He said, putting a hand over my mouth. "Everyone will hear you."
I bit down on his hand and wriggled free as he let go very briefly to give a shocked cry of pain.
Hitting the ground, landing on my feet, I ran. Entering into an open room, I dashed across it, trying to find a place to hide.
"Come back here you brat." I heard him coming from behind me.
"No!" Reaching out into the Force, I grabbed a small table, sending it towards him. But it didn't stop him. Looking around, I saw a larger one. This one only shook slightly but did not move. Then suddenly it flew over my head. I turned and watched it, seeing it slow down the bad man.
"Keep running little one, help is coming." The Force felt strong, the voice was so real, so I looked around for one of the Masters but no one was there.
I scrambled up a couple of stairs, but fell down as I felt his hand on my leg. Kicking him, I freed myself, reaching for the leg of a bench. Using the Force I held on to it as he tried to pull me off. I cried out in pain as the rough wood dug into my hands.
"That's it, I haven't gotten this far, not to get my full payment." With one last yank, he pulled me away and I cried out in pain, feeling splinters dig into my hands.
But knowing I needed to get away, twisting my body, with the leg he wasn't holding, I kicked him. It was just enough to get way and I nearly fell back down the stairs. I started running, looking for anything to stop him.
Then there was a large statue. It was twice as tall as I was, but I had to try. Reaching into the Force, I wanted to pull it toward the ground. It began to twitter but didn't fall. "Help please, help."
Then it was falling with a rather loud thud and I heard him falling over it. It gave me precious seconds.
"Hide little one, hide." Tugging the force tightly around me, I ducked under a table.
"You're dead now kid, I don't care what my orders are." Those words were followed by several more that I did not understand.
I trembled at his words and felt that same presence soothing me, feeling almost like mummy and daddy would.
"Hey, why don't you pick on someone your own size?" A voice, Ahsoka's voice came across the room as a lightsaber hummed to life.
"No one gets in my way." I could see the man turn to face her.
"Wanna bet?" The two fought for a moment or two until she knocked him out, then cuffed him to one of the tables. "Sasha?"
I crawled out of my hiding place. "I'm here."
"Are you alright?" She asked, kneeling down and looking at my bleeding hands.
Not able to speak past the sudden tears, I nodded.
"Let's get you out of here and to the Healers." Ahsoka was beginning to lead me away when Uncle Anakin came running from the landing.
"Hey little Jedi." He knelt down and pulled me close. "You okay?"
I nodded. "He wanted me and he hurt my friends."
"Your friends?" He asked as Ahsoka was looking on.
I nodded again, telling him what happened to them.
"I will go check on them." Ahsoka said and quickly left the room.
As he put something onto my hands, he asked quietly what happened. I just finished telling him when several other Jedi entered the room.
"What happened here?" One asked.
Uncle Anakin answered him, pointing toward the man, still lying on the ground. "He stunned two other younglings before coming after Sasha. My Padawan went to check on them." He glanced towards me as I clung to him. "I was just about to call it in, he needs to be taken to the holding cells until someone can interrogate him. I need to take Sasha to the Healer's."
We were soon leaving. Along the way, I asked him. "Where is Mummy and Daddy?"
"You will see them downstairs." He said before placing more calls on his comlink.
The Healer's was very busy when we entered and one of the droids began looking at my hands. Ahsoka had come back and said my friends would be fine and were already with our clan. I felt much better about that even if the droid felt like he was hurting my hands. Though Ahsoka sat down and pulled me into her lap, asking about my lessons, helping take my mind off the pain.
"Thank you for saving my life." I said as they made me stick my hands into a wet container that made them sting.
"You're quite welcome." She smiled, tugging me close.
I rested against her as I was told to sit still but it was sometimes hard, especially since I wanted to see where Daddy and Mummy were. Ahsoka didn't know and Uncle Anakin had stepped away.
But finally after my hands were cleaned and taped up, I turned and found Daddy standing nearby. I took no time running to him.
**Obi-Wan's Point of View**
Once my daughter was done telling me what happened, I held her close, knowing she needed some comfort. "My brave little Jedi, you did just fine."
"But who was talking to me and moved the table and statue?" Sasha looked up to me, a question in her eyes.
"Sasha, I think the Force was guiding you but it just felt like someone was there." I started to explain, hoping she would understand what happened or at least as much as she could.
"But it felt real." She was rather insistent, making me wonder about what really happened. "It didn't feel like the Force does when I use it."
"Sasha, this isn't a classroom but a…"
"But Daddy" She interrupted me completely. "I heard it before."
"The exact same voice?" I asked, wanting to clarify what she was talking about.
"Yes, when you and Mummy were missing. I had forgot about it till I heard him again."
When I asked her when that exactly was or what it said, she said she didn't really remember anything more about it.
"It's alright." I soothed her, not wanting her to worry about it. "You are safe now."
"Why did someone pay to take me?" I should have known this was coming and had no idea of how to answer her.
"I don't know." The truth at her age would be too much for her to handle and I really didn't know exactly why the Sith wanted her besides discovering her potential. So what I told her was true, from a certain point of view. "But you will be safe in the Temple."
I could only hope that was true, was beginning to doubt if it truly was. Though, she believed me at any rate as she cuddled closer to me, no longer asking questions. Sensing she was rather tired, I rocked her gently for some moments before she fell asleep. Rising slowly as not to wake her, I turned and placed her on the bed in the room.
"Don't worry Master." Ahsoka came and stood beside us. "I'll stay and look after her."
"Thank you again Ahsoka." I placed my hand on her shoulder and tried to continue but she only smiled.
"You're welcome."
I soon left the room, found Meagan still sleeping, resting more peacefully. It seemed she and the baby, at least for the moment, seemed to be doing about the same, if not a little better. I breathed another sigh of relief watching her rest, wishing I could crawl up there next to her but knew there was still much work to be done today.
As if on que, Anakin stepped into the room. "How is she?" He asked quietly coming to stand next to me.
"Considering what could have…." I took a deep breath, unable to continue that thought. "They are both doing alright."
He put his hand on my shoulder, squeezing it gently in comfort. "Meagan is strong and I'm sure that little one is too." I knew he was right and had to believe it as he held up a data pad in his other hand. "I have the report."
I motioned for us to leave the room so we could talk without disturbing my wife. Once we were out of the room, I asked. "What did you find?"
He handed me the data pad. "You are not going to like this."
I looked it over before back to him to make sure I read this correctly. "There were no disturbances anywhere? Nothing unusual at all?"
"Absolutely nothing." Anakin looked rather grim. "Checking the camera security feeds might give us a bit more clarity but I think we both know what this means."
We exchanged looks before I spoke. "This was an inside job."
"Do you know if the Council has started investigating or found anything out yet?"
I shook my head. "Besides looking at your messages, I haven't checked my comlink in some time."
"That's understandable." Anakin said, not bothered that he had acquired another task. "I'll pass this along so you can stay here and I'll keep you updated as much as I can."
"Anakin, I don't know…." I started out, not sure how to express it.
But he just smiled. "You never have to thank me. You would have done the same if the situation was reversed."
I managed a smile back, well knowing he was right.
With that he turned, going back down the hallway, where he would eventually find his way out of the Healer's wing.
Meanwhile, I went back in the room and sat down next to Meagan, taking her hand, trying not to think about what might have happened. Master Jessie soon walked in and looked over everything before turning to me.
"Has she been resting well?" She asked quietly.
"As well as can be." I watched her for a moment before asking. "Is everything okay?"
"Meagan's vitals are good, blood pressure is still a little high but not bad. Her pains have basically stopped so that is a great sign. The baby's heart rate is still in the higher part of normal but has been slowing down." She glanced back to Meagan before turning back to me. "I will keep her monitored through tonight and reevaluate her in the morning. I think I should be able to release her sometime tomorrow and put her on somewhat strict bedrest until they are completely in the clear."
I nodded, that having made sense, almost expected even. "What is she going to be allowed to do?"
"Short trips only, like going to the refresher or moving from your bedroom to your living area." She paused for a long moment before continuing her explanation. "I do not want her on her feet any more than necessary or for any long periods of time for about a week. After that, we will see how they are doing and decide to either lighten it or leave her on bedrest."
I nodded again, hoping Meagan would take this well, for sake of the baby. I would need help to find her plenty of things to do or she would go absolutely crazy. Hopefully she wouldn't be completely off her feet for the next several months. "I'll make sure she does."
"Are you staying here tonight?" She asked and continued as I nodded. "Someone will be in to check on them fairly frequently. Do you want me to bring in another bed for you so you can get some actual sleep?"
"I will need something for at least Sasha. I am not sure I want her out of my sight for that long and Meagan will actually rest better knowing where our daughter is."
"I'll see that it gets done." Master Jessie watched me seriously for a long moment before asking. "How are you doing with all this?"
I shrugged it off, not wanting to deal with it now. "I'm fine."
She gave me a look, like she didn't believe me but didn't pursue the topic. "Try to get something to eat and get some rest."
"I will." I assured her before she left.
I stayed with Meagan for a few more minutes before going to check on Sasha and found her awake and talking with Ahsoka.
"Hi Daddy." Sasha came up and hugged me around my legs. "Ahsoka and I were playing a game."
"Was she now?"
She nodded, having appeared to be already bouncing back from this afternoon's events. "I'm hungry."
I guess it was getting to be about third meal time, no wonder the healer told me to eat something. "We'll have to see about that."
"I could run down to the cafeteria and get something for her." Ahsoka put in and when I glanced to her, she continued. "I do not mind."
"Thank you." With that she left the room.
"Can I see Mummy?" Sasha asked me a second later. "I promise I won't wake her."
"Okay, but we are going to be very gentle." I instructed her as she left the room and went into Meagan's room.
Surprisingly enough, Meagan was awake and looking around, obviously looking for us.
"Mummy." Sasha was about to make a mad dash for her mother but in one step, I scooped her up.
"Remember be gentle." I reminded her as I placed her carefully next to Meagan. "And both of you need to rest."
After sharing a long embrace, Meagan simply cuddled Sasha as much as she could with all the medical devices hooked up to her.
Ahsoka soon brought the food, enough actually for all of us. Anakin soon followed with some clothes for all of us. He did manage to whisper that there were no new updates, that an investigation would be starting soon into both occurrences and not to worry about any of it tonight. We visited for a few minutes until one of the Healer's who was bringing in an extra bed kicked Ahsoka and Anakin out.
Having such a long day, Meagan was soon asleep and I was soon tucking Sasha into the extra bed. Watching them sleep, I was suddenly so thankful that at least at the moment, my family was safe. Sighing I managed to do some light meditation, enough to relax my mind, in order to get some sleep.
Surprisingly enough I was able to get at least some sleep that night. Sasha only woke up once and lying next to her I was able to quiet her before she woke up Meagan. We talked quietly about her dream for a moment or two before she fell back asleep. It seemed I had just gotten back to sleep when one of the healers came into the room to check on Meagan and the baby. The healer worked quickly and quietly and when he noticed I was awake he told me they were doing alright. I did somewhat wake up occasionally as healers came and went. Thankfully Meagan slept all through the night, maybe some of the medication they gave her made her sleep. I could sometimes still feel both her and the baby's unease and tried to soothe them.
I woke up early the next morning, like I normally do. As both Meagan and Sasha were sleeping soundly, I carefully rose, noting wanting to disturb them but soon settled into the corner of the room to meditate. It cleared my mind and helped me to feel better rested after what happened yesterday. Even if Meagan and the baby had passed the first initial danger, there was still much to deal with and I wanted to be as centered as possible in dealing with it. Fortunately, I had just enough time to feel the benefits and felt ready to meet the day when Sasha began to stir.
Thankfully I was able to catch her before she woke Meagan. "Good morning Sasha." I placed a kiss on her forehead, speaking quietly. "How are you feeling?"
She took a moment before answering, wiping the sleep out of her eyes. "Is Mummy okay?"
"I think she and the baby will be fine." I gently pushed some of the hair off her face before sending her off to the refresher. I knew I needed to feed my daughter but was not sure about leaving Meagan. I certainly did not want her to wake up and find both of us gone but did not want to disturb her much needed rest to tell her either. However, as my daughter returned in which I reminded her to wash her hands but once that was completed she asked me about first meal.
"We will get first meal in a few minutes." I edged, thinking quickly, wondering who I should call when the door slid open, revealing one of the Healer's with a tray.
Thanking her quietly, I guided my daughter to the small table where the tray was sat. Not surprising Meagan soon woke up and wanted to get out of bed.
"Honey." I hurried over to the bed, sitting on the edge, keeping my wife from leaving. "The Healer's want you to keep off your feet until we know for sure you and the little one are going to be okay."
Meagan who was obviously thinking more clearly stared back at me. The Healer's had taken her off the oxygen during the night, allowing her to talk more easily, spoke. "Master Jessie is putting me on complete bed rest?"
"At least until we know for sure the babe won't come early, then maybe it will lighten." Seeing Sasha still occupied I was able to briefly explain that the baby would probably be okay.
Her eyes filled with tears and I reached up, stroking her cheek.
"Meagan, it was not your fault." I comforted her as best as I could. "This little one is strong."
She gave me a slight teary smile before glancing over to our daughter. "Is Sasha okay?"
"She's fine." I forestalled any more questions by offering my wife something to eat.
"We will discuss this." Meagan's glare was practically lethal as I brought her a plate.
Thankfully Sasha wanting to climb up on the bed disrupted our conversation. We finished our meal, mostly in silence before Master Jessie came in. Thinking it was for the best, I took Sasha from the room, trying to keep her occupied. Once Master Jessie stepped out of the room she told me she would more than likely release Meagan around mid-day and still to keep her on bed rest but was feeling more positive that the baby would be alright but was erring on the side of caution.
I breathed a sigh of relief, thanking the Healer for everything before she left. Now keeping my wife and daughter occupied would be a challenge for the rest of the day, but Bant soon stopped by with some quiet toys and games for Sasha and books for Meagan. Sasha was bouncing back well, but did act clingy when Bant showed up, as if she was afraid I would make her leave with her.
Bant and Meagan spent a few moments talking before she said goodbye to Sasha and I, thinking Meagan needed her rest. Though Meagan was already looking like she would be getting bored.
"Try to get some rest." I kissed her gently, hearing my comlink going off.
She glared at me as she laid back into the bed, rubbing her middle.
"Why don't you help Sasha with her reading?" I suggested, helping Sasha to sit gently onto her bed.
"I like this book Mummy." Sasha held one up.
I think Meagan only agreed because Sasha had asked. So once the two were settled, I stepped out of the room. Seeing that it was Anakin who was contacting me, I hit the reply option.
"Good morning." I said when he came on.
"Is everyone still doing okay?" He immediately asked, concern written on his face. "Padme was asking if Meagan and Sasha needed anything."
"Everyone is alright." I told him. "Bant stopped by a few minutes ago with some items that will hopefully keep them occupied. Master Jessie said she will release them about mid-day so we will not be needing any more clothes. What do you have to report?"
"From what I heard, they are trying to deal with the injuries and locating the families of any of the non-Jedi workers that were in the area who were killed." He explained looking a little grim. "I am not sure that they have come up with a complete plan yet but Master Windu thought Ahsoka and I might be assigned to investigating the bomb part while another Jedi interviews the other suspect."
I thought about that for a long moment before asking. "Has anyone talked to him yet?"
He shook his head. "Not as far as I know. Some of them were in the area this morning making sure the structure is safe and keeping other things running smoothly as possible." He paused for another moment. "I did pass onto them what happened to Sasha so hopefully she won't have to give another testimony. As you were not answering your comlink they did ask me where you were last evening, so I told them you were with Meagan in the Healer's."
That would explain why a search party was not sent out for us last night. "Thank you again Anakin."
"Master Yoda and Windu said one of them may stop by this morning." That was not wholly unexpected. "If you need me or Ahsoka to watch Sasha or Meagan, let me know. Padme said she had committee meetings she couldn't get out of today but she would be able to get all of us dinner tonight."
Touched by her thoughtfulness, I nodded. "Dinner would be great, thank you. I'll keep Sasha here with us for now, I'll be in touch if need be."
"Very well." Anakin stared at me for a long moment before asking. "How are you doing?"
I shook my head, not wanting to get into now. "I'm fine now that they are alright."
Anakin snorted. "I don't know if I actually believe it but I'll let it go for now."
I fought the urge to roll my eyes. "I'll be in touch. Thanks again."
"You're welcome." With that the connection ended and I went back into the room finding Meagan and Sasha reading a book together.
Relief flooded through me at seeing such a normal activity for them, especially after yesterday's events.
"Daddy, can you read with us?" Sasha asked, noticing I had come back into the room.
Not able to turn down the invitation, the rest of the events of the galaxy could wait and others were already working on them, I headed over to the bed. I lifted Sasha up and sat down on the edge of the bed, placing her in my lap. Together we read the rest of the story.
Once it was over and Sasha turned her attention to a picture book, I glanced over to Meagan. "How are you feeling? How's the baby feel?"
"Better." She smiled a little, not seemingly as worried and scared as she had been before. Reaching out she pulled my hand and placed it on her middle. Nearly immediately I felt a little a nudge against my hand. "The little one is starting to get active again."
I blinked away the sudden tears from knowing the baby seemed to be recovering well. "That's a good sign."
"Yes it is." As I felt another nudge, this one a bit stronger, as if the little one knew I was here. "Sasha do you want to feel the baby?"
"Can I?" She asked, obviously curious.
Meagan took her small hand and placed it where the baby had been moving. "Do you feel that?"
Sasha looked confused for a moment or two before she explained. "That feels funny. Is it really a baby?"
"Yes, it is." Meagan told her as both of us chuckled softly. "It doesn't seem like it now but your little brother or sister will be here in a few more months."
Sasha looked like she was about to ask something but then turned her attention back to the other book. Then not being able to help it, I leaned down, kissing Meagan gently, relieved that they were safe and this part at least was close to being over. But yet, I knew some of it was only just beginning.
