Everyone thought that Loki coveted the throne even from before his unfortunate fall and subsequent mental degradation. For what else could such actions stem from other than greed and jealousy? The lies he gave to Thor. The reluctance to end his brother’s exile. The orders to leave him be. His attempt to kill Thor from returning. Refusing to release the Throne of the King to it’s rightful heir. All of Asgard, the Avengers, and the Realms thought this was truth. But Loki did all that transpired for one very simple reason.

He was afraid.

No one seemed to remember what Thor would always vow.
